3.5 stars!

One of Jill Shalvis' earlier books that's being reissued in digital format, Her Favorite Mistake was a cute and easy read. It tells a story about Mia Appleby and her "relationship" with her hot as hell neighbor, Kevin McKnight. All she wants was a booty call but he wants more.

I liked the whole friends-with-benefits thing even though Mia drove me batty with her insistence of keeping the relationship purely physical. Kevin on the other hand was wonderful. He knows what he wants and he

This book was originally published in 2005. You may have read it already. I hadn't. I wanted something light to read. Also needed a sure thing. I've started and stopped so many books recently, I needed one sure to please.

I love this author, but this one wasn't the best I'

Loved this book. So much dysfunction in the characters, but not in a mean way. Mia was determinedly independent because she didn't want to be like her mother, always looking for a man to take care of her. So she would use men, but not let anyone get close to her. Kevin was a chronic fixer. He wanted to take care of everyone - his brother, Mia, Hope, his students. His brother Mike had spent years playing his brother, and not taking responsibility for anything. Hope just wanted a better life, and ...more

Bleh. GAVE UP. The lead was self-centered. The hot teacher didn't deserve her.

I love me some Jill Shalvis, and this was a cute one. The characters were good, the plot wasn't mind blowing, but I just like Jill Shalvis' approach to contemporary romance.
When I saw this book on NetGalley, I was instantly excited. New Jill Shalvis! Except that it's not. It's a re-release from 2005. And it's not as good as her more recent works.
Mia Appleby is trying to be the perfect woman. She's trying to overcome her past where her mother and sister concentrated so hard on finding a man that they couldn't get ahead in life. But when the book opens, Mia is running away after waking up in the bed of teacher Kevin McKnight.
Through the course of the book, we see M
My review cross-posted from Wit and Sin:

Her Sexiest Mistake is a story of flawed people with big hearts finding their way. Author Jill Shalvis never fails to entertain, and I devoured this sexy, heartwarming book in one sitting.

I absolutely adored Mia. She’s smart, relatable, and does her best even when she’s in over her head both at work and in her personal life. She makes mistakes, quite a few of them, in her quest to separate herself from her past. I

Jill Shalvis is an auto-buy for me, I have loved everything I have read by her to date so I was more than eager to read Her Favourite Mistake and although I didn’t find this to be as solid as her previous books, it was enjoyable none the less.

My biggest gripe was our main heroine, Mia Appleby who came across as self-absorbed and snobbish, she has left behind a past that she doesn’t want to revisit and is now a successful business woman with all the niceties she has always

Jill Shalvis novels never fail to put me in a good mood, and this one delivered, for the most part anyways. I guess my big problem with this novel was the main character Mia (Apple) Appleby. Mia is portrayed as a career driven, anti-social hard headed woman. And, she just irked me to my very bones. I much preferred her best friend Tess, whom, I relate to more so that is probably why. Not that Mia didn’t grow on me eventually, but, through the first half I wanted to smack the girl and even though ...more
What can I say, I loved it, even though Mia was such an unlikeable character. She grew on me. Kevin was spot on, he was the complete package. He wanted more from the get go and she held back. Yet he kept trying to break her down and she was just careless with his feelings. Their relationship was so dysfunctional and backward from what you would expect. She was the one making the booty call when she had a bad day, the one to walk out the door when she got what she wanted. Her own version of wham, ...more

I loved this book. Couldn't get enough of these characters.
Hoping there's going to be a book about Tess and Mike.
I really enjoyed the sexy chemistry between Kevin and Mia. Heartfelt and honest.

A definite must-read for lovers of Romance. Today when I was finishing it and nearing the end I cried - like the horribly sad, bottom lip quivering kind of cry. Jill sucker punches me straight to the heart everytime. I loved this book. Such a great read and so much love packed into 314 pages it was unbelievably hard to breathe sometimes. So refreshing, such a heartfelt, funny, breezy and still such an intense book all at the same time, in a way that only Jill can write it. If you haven't read he ...more

Uh…so, this is a little embarassing to admit, but I’d never read Jill Shalvis before this book. Clearly, this was a tragedy. I don’t even know where to start. Yes, the sexy times were sexy, but there’s so much more to that. I love the main characters. I like that they are comfortable and fluid in their sexuality. I like that they’re flexible and full-bodied (and not just during sexy times). One of the most attractive things about Kevin is his supreme empathy. Now

This is not the Jill Shalvis writing I am familiar with; I could never get comfortable in this book. The relationship was too unbalanced; Kevin’s character allowed everyone take advantage of him and Mia was too self-absorbed. The thing about reprints is they do not usually live up my expectations.

As always, Jill Shalvis writes a great book with fantastic characters and this one is no exception.

Mia Appleby is trying to escape her past which was filled with a steady stream of her mother's boyfriends, filing by her in their cramped trailer that she shared with her family. She's determined never to be like that so she becomes a successful Ad Exec with an expensive house, expensive clothes and a closed off personality.

Everything in Mia's life seems to be going perfectly....until a one night s

I liked the hero in this story who was the steady durable one pushing for more from the relationship but the heroine was something else. I liked how they dealt with their relatives issues and the secondary romance. Marketing exec Mia has a one night stand with her new neighbor Kevin, a teacher.

First off, I love it that I have the chance to read previously release books on my Kindle that I missed when they were first released in paperback. Jill Shalvis is a guaranteed good time, so I snapped this one up.

Mia has worked hard to recreate an image of herself as successful, but she keeps her past a well-hidden secret. Then Kevin rides into her life and in a momentary loss of responsible thinking, Mia ends up in his bed.

What I appreciated was Mia kept going back on her own, unable to stay aw

I wasn't too sure about this book to start out with. Right off the bat, Mia is leaving Kevin's bed in the wee hours of the morning. Kevin really likes her and wants to start something, but Mia is extremely gun-shy and doesn't want anything more than what she is sex. I almost want to smack Mia through most of this book. I mean, come on, a hot teacher that rides a motorcycle?! the end, though, she finally got her act together and owned up to what she really wanted...of cour ...more

Two-haiku review:

She only wants sex
He wants a relationship
Can they compromise?

Nice deep characters
Loved the supporting cast, too
Glad she saw the light
It was just okay. I wasn't really into it for some reason. The heroine, while her antics were charming and fun in the beginning, got pretty tiring after awhile.

What’s not to love? You take Mia with her rough background and her conquer the world through hard work and keeping your eye on the prize attitude. She doesn’t have time for relationships, men or family. There is no way she is going to let her world revolve around a man. She is the center of her own universe. Then you throw a little bump in the road, a bump that is a motorcycle driving hottie with a soft heart and a mission to heal those around him. Kevin McNight was melt your heart worthy. His w ...more
Mia Appleby has come a long way from the Tennessee trailer park she escaped as a teen. A successful L.A. ad exec, she’s not about to give up her secrets or jeopardize her plans for anyone. So she’s a serial dater, a non-repeater. Men are for sex, for working out her stress, and that’s it. Until Kevin McKnight moves in down the street.

Kevin’s stunned when she bolts first thing the next morning. Mia’s stunned when she keeps going back to him. And then Hope arrives, her teenage niece who’s run away

Mia Appleby ashamed of her poor Tennessee trailer park back ground, did everything she could to get out. As a kid everyone knew she was different because she always thought she was better than them. It really wasn’t that she just wanted better. Mainly for her she knew there had to be better.
So, even as a young girl she taught herself everything she could about everything she could at the library. She knew knowledge was her ticket out of there. To the point where she won a full ride scholarship

Gah! Mia is just like me! I hated reading about it! LOL! I gotta have control and I keep my emotions at bay as well. But it sure made me think about it! I didn’t do booty call though!

Mia has her life all lined up since her less than ideal childhood. She has everything she ever wanted or does she? She has a great job and her assistant, Tess, is really her only friend. But even Tess is kept from the knowledge of her childhood life. Mia has even lost her southern accent so people will see how she i

Shalvis isn't shy about casting strong female characters into her books, almost to the point I couldn't really stand Mia in this one.

Mia Appleby comes from Southern poverty and went on to make a name for herself in the advertising world. She drives an Audi, has a great house (although it seems to be a neighborhood that an urban teacher can afford, too), and wears designer clothing (with a particular shoe fetish). She uses men for sex and to promote her career but gets into a hot one-nighter rep
