This book is actually a reprint from '07...surprised me. I have to break this one down.

Angela Knight "Dragon Dance"- 3 stars.
Weird. I have no other word for it. Just weird.

Diane Whiteside "Caught By Tides"-2 stars.
Not such a fan of Diane Whiteside. It was boring and confusing. Girl sees emergency beacon on beach from mage ring, mage is unconscious, and super hot. They combine magic, beat Napoleon's mages, and live HEA

Emma Holly "Queen of all she Surveys"-1 star.

From Beyond the Dark Antho...

Okay, here's the thing. I'm not a big antho fan. I know what they are- nothing more than a marketing tool with a short story by one author I do like in order to get me to read a short by an unknown before the release of unknown's new book. Yet I fall for it, because, dangit, I can't resist a story by an author I love.

I broke it down per story, so here goes:

In a Wolf's Embrace by Lora Leigh

A cabin romance, Matthias- one of LL's Wolf breeds, has known Grace as his mate
This was a shorter book, but just as good. Loved the characters, loved the story.
Story available in print format in Beyond the Dark anthology.

Dragon Dance by Angela Knight
I don’t particularly like stories about super-power infected humans, but Angela Knight does it with such style and certain panache, I just can’t hold the theme choice against her. As with all things Knight the steam is up in the stratosphere, and the leather-clad hunks and that chops licking tiger sticking his head out of Tracker’s chest more than compensate for the whole aliens-did-it hoopla.

Caught by the Tides by Diane Whiteside

I'd read 2 of the authors in this anthology before, so I figured I'd enjoy at least their stories. Surprisingly, this was a fairly strong anthology, perhaps because it felt like the stories were longer than the usual short story format. It also introduced me to a new writer who's works I will have to investigate further.

Now--to "grading" the individual stories:

Dragon Dance by Angela Knight. This story was not set in any of the previous worlds that I'd read by her, but I have to admit--I really h
The first two stories (Knight & Whiteside) I give about a 3....the other two (Holly & Leigh) I give a 5. That's why this is a four overall. Even the first two stories are good though. This is well worth the time to read, and for novellas the story lines are pretty well developed. The first two are pretty good but the second two blow are much better. The hot steamy scenes of the second two are great, typical of Emma Holly and Lora Leigh. Leigh's story is the Breed Series #13, but you don' ...more

I only read Lora Leigh's story. I found it to be a sweet addition to the Breed Series.
Dragon Dance By Angela Knight
4-stars. This was so amusing. Loved the ideas on how they got their powers and I LOVED Arial's powers. Was great for such a short story.

Caught by the Tides By Diane Whiteside
1-star. I could barely get through the first chapter. I was so bored.

Queen of All She Surveys By Emma Holly
3.5-stars. wowza well the sex was steamy. The lore didnt really make sense but it was still an entertain read.

Yea only bought this book to read In a Wolf's Embrace by Lora Leigh. Sorry other writers, but meh. Anyways, fair warning....NEVER read Lora Leigh books while PMSing. It's the most miserable experience ever. This story was fantastic and the scenes were so damn HOT. So you're just there drooling over the sex scenes and Matthias, because he's all tattooed up and looking at your husband like damn. Then you realize your situation and you're just a balling mess. Your hubby looks at you weird. So you t ...more
I only read the Breeds story and based my rating on that alone. I loved how he wanted her to give her heart to him without the influence of the "mating heat" so he refused to touch her.
This one made me cry, some stories really touch the heart and this one certainly did that for me.
In a Wolf's Embrace By Lora Leigh

I'm still not one hundred percent behind all of the Breed novels, but that's only because of all the descriptive wording being used. There's always too many in one paragraph and it starts to get exhausting at a certain point. Most of Lora Leigh's novels have horrendous covers, but this one actually had a pretty good one. This could possibly be because it's a novella and is shared with three other authors. However, no matter the reason I'll take it anyways. This
I enjoyed this anthology. I've read it before but always skipped the Diane Whiteside story because I don't like historicals. I read it this time though. I liked all the stories but I had this collection mixed up with the Hot Spell anthology.

Dragon Dance by Angela Knight
This was my favorite of the anthology. I remember the first time I read this story and I wanted more from this world but I never found other stories.
Arial's a self sufficient badass and Tracker/Josiah is a bit of a tortured soul
I only read Lora Leigh's story following the Breed series, and I have to say this is the best story in the Wolf Breeds.

With such a short story, Ms Leigh's masterful writing brought to life two persons, with one who's DNA brands him as not fully human. The hero and heroine (Matthias and Grace) were new characters, and I didn't understand their relationship at first when he was making the assassination, but with thorough explanation, I was able to connect the dots.

I liked the way he was described,
Well, the book was not what I hoped it would be.

Angela Knight's story was okay, funny but cliched and the whole alien thing was a bit over-the-top. But whatever. I'd give it a 3 star.

Lora Leigh just made my teeth ache with its sugar sweetness. She is so American goody-two-shoes that I want to throw up. The whole cliches are just too much. Grace is good, and so, she takes soups to friends, does the whole late night phone calls things, but then, turns around and hates the man she loves because he

"Dragon Dance" by Angela Knight was an interesting, futuristic tale that focused mainly on a special type of human called a Hyper. Hypers have what most consider supernatural powers, and no one knows why they exist or who can become one of these special humans. When Sergeant Arial Dean, a hostage negotiator, tries to protect a family from its Hyper patron, two things happen: first, she learns that things can completely change with just a touch, and two the sexy federal Hyper agent Tracker might ...more

5 stars for one story. 2 and 3 stars for the other stories.

This book contains the following four stories.

5 stars for DRAGON'S DANCE by Angela Knight.
Creative, new, different, fun. Humans with special powers are called Hypers. Some are good and some are bad. I don't want to give away some of the fun surprises, so I won't tell any more of the story, other than it was well done and worth buying. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: three. Setting: current day Blue Ridge Mountain area in
Anthologies are hard to rate.
So I'll break it down:
1) Angela Knight's: it was okay. 2 stars. too much going on in the world building, and I really hate when character abilities pile up (She is powerful. He is VERY powerful. Suddenly she morphs into an ULTRA POWERFUL BEING. Gag.)
2) Diane Whiteside's: actually, I liked this one quite a bit, so 4 stars. I was very disappointed to find out that she has not written any books in this setting. The characters were very believable (in the context of com

Well... Here's how it went... RATING is really for the Lora Leigh story even though I seriously tried to give the others a chance!!

I read Lora Leigh's story, because I was missing this one! Grace & Matthias are mentioned a few times in the series so I was glad to get their story. This one gave more of the background tortures the breeds went through. It also explained the ranks of the people running the labs & who the breed assassins were after & why. That made it worth the read, beca

First read Oct 2009.
An anthology of erotic tales of the paranormal.

Series: Queen of All She Surveys (Tales of the Demon World, 5)
In a Wolf's Embrace (Breeds, 13 although I think this should come before Kiss of Heat (Breeds, 4))

Angela Knight's Dragon Dance is a tale of invasion and super powers as we follow a hostage negotiator, Arial Dean, attempting to save a mother and her children from her crazed husband. A Hyper. Who can pass his "taint" on with a touch. Lucky for Arial that Tracker is there

Another anthology! Beyond the Dark is an anthology of H&H in a demon world setting. And there's also Lora Leigh's Breed's story! Woot!

Dragon Dance by Angela Knight:
Ms. Knight always offers the most extra-spectacular for everyone to enjoy. Her story revolves around a world wherein humans have been found to have innate superpowers that made them extra special, unique and dangerous--calls them, 'Hyper'. Some uses their skills to help the police catch those who abuse theirs. Arial is a negotiato

***** "Dragon Dance" by Angela Knight
Police Sergeant Arial Dean, the department's top hostage negotiator, is working a domestic hostage situation when it suddenly gets much worse: the perpetrator turns out to be a new Hyper, and they have to call in and FBI Hyper called Tracker to deal with him. Hypers are people infected with... something.... that gives them one of a variety of supernatural powers. When they first become Hypers, they're extremely violent until they learn to control their powers
I really bought/read this book for LL's Breed story and my overall rating for this book is based on it alone. Nonetheless, I did read all four of the short stories and rate them each below.

In a Wolf's Embrace by Lora Leigh.
4.5 Stars
This is the best installment in the Breed series so far! In short: I loved it.

Matthias is an assassin sent to kill a former council member who continues to rape and torture Breeds. In order to execute his plan, he befriends and starts a romance with Grace, the assis

Beyond the Dark is an erotic paranormal read that will (*whew*) knock your socks off! With amazing contributors such as Lora Leigh and Angela Knight, readers will be seduced into a world of erotica that made even this “fairly liberal” gal blush and keep the pages from reaching the prying eyes of those sitting close to me on the bus!

With demons, vampires, mages, and devilishly erotic queens, readers will enjoy a tasteful, yet sensual, erotic paranormal adventure. I had first thought this was an o

I only read Breeds #13 by Lora Leigh so this review is my take on that story only.

Loved it the first breeds book I have ever rated a ful 5 stars. It made me laugh, cry, sigh, and overall just enjoyed the whole thing. It is a quick story only like 80 some pages but they pack a punch.

It begins when Grace sees Matthauis? sp kill a council member, then he kidnapps her. The catch is she is his mate and he must claim her and convince her not to reveil that his killed the guy. He takes her to her cabi
I only read the Lora Leigh Breeds story in this compilation, not the other 3. This story was of a Wolf Breed, Matthias, and his mate, Grace. I give it 4 stars because the short story format actually worked for this series/couple. It boiled it down to the basics, which can sometimes be good in the Breed stories, which can get a little repetitive while waiting for the overreaching plot line to continue. Matthias is an assassin, and Grace catches him in the act. He actually met her while getting cl ...more

In a Wolf's Embrace

Although the stories in a anthology are well written and engrossing they never seem long enough. I love the Breeds and I am always glad to see more stories about the wolves. There seems to be more Feline stories than Canine. I like these characters, Matthias Slaughter and Grace Anderson, they were made for each other in so many ways. Grace is courageous and intelligent and compassionate. Matthias is loyal and wound and so very confused by all the things that Grace shows him. T
