Okay, here's the thing. I'm not a big antho fan. I know what they are- nothing more than a marketing tool with a short story by one author I do like in order to get me to read a short by an unknown before the release of unknown's new book. Yet I fall for it, because, dangit, I can't resist a story by an author I love.
I broke it down per story, so here goes:

This is an anthology of paranormal erotica. I found it at my local B&N while searching for something else and couldn’t resist buying it as well. It contains four novellas, including one by Emma Holly, and that’s the main reason I bought it. I’ve heard many good things about Holly’s erotica and looked forward to reading something by her. I was not disappointed. Holly is an excellent writer, and her novella surprised me. In fact it turned out to be my favorite of the four. I’m not a fan of ...more
This book is actually a reprint from '07...surprised me. I have to break this one down.
Angela Knight "Dragon Dance"- 3 stars. Weird. I have no other word for it. Just weird.
Diane Whiteside "Caught By Tides"-2 stars. Not such a fan of Diane Whiteside. It was boring and confusing. Girl sees emergency beacon on beach from mage ring, mage is unconscious, and super hot. They combine magic, beat Napoleon's mages, and live HEA

Dragon Dance by Angela Knight
One word: ENTERTAINING
I don’t particularly like stories about super-power infected humans, but Angela Knight does it with such style and certain panache, I just can’t hold the theme choice against her. As with all things Knight the steam is up in the stratosphere, and the leather-clad hunks and that chops licking tiger sticking his head out of Tracker’s chest more than compensate for the whole aliens-did-it hoopla.

The first two stories (Knight & Whiteside) I give about a 3....the other two (Holly & Leigh) I give a 5. That's why this is a four overall. Even the first two stories are good though. This is well worth the time to read, and for novellas the story lines are pretty well developed. The first two are pretty good but the second two blow are much better. The hot steamy scenes of the second two are great, typical of Emma Holly and Lora Leigh. Leigh's story is the Breed Series #13, but you don't ...more
First read Oct 2009.
An anthology of erotic tales of the paranormal.
Series: Queen of All She Surveys (Tales of the Demon World, 5)
In a Wolf's Embrace (Breeds, 13 although I think this should come before Kiss of Heat (Breeds, 4))
Angela Knight's Dragon Dance is a tale of invasion and super powers as we follow a hostage negotiator, Arial Dean, attempting to save a mother and her children from her crazed husband. A Hyper. Who can pass his "taint" on with ...more

This book contains the following four stories.
5 stars for DRAGON'S DANCE by Angela Knight.
Creative, new, different, fun. Humans with special powers are called Hypers. Some are good and some are bad. I don't want to give away some of the fun surprises, so I won't tell any more of the story, other than it was well done and worth buying. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: three. I'd read 2 of the authors in this anthology before, so I figured I'd enjoy at least their stories. Surprisingly, this was a fairly strong anthology, perhaps because it felt like the stories were longer than the usual short story format. It also introduced me to a new writer who's works I will have to investigate further.

I only read Lora Leigh's story following the Breed series, and I have to say this is the best story in the Wolf Breeds.
With such a short story, Ms Leigh's masterful writing brought to life two persons, with one who's DNA brands him as not fully human. The hero and heroine (Matthias and Grace) were new characters, and I didn't understand their relationship at first when he was making the assassination, but with thorough explanation, I was able to connect the dots.

Lora Leigh's novella, In a wolf embrace.
The reason I bought this book and the best novella in it.
I was a bit skeptical on the heroine's change of hearth while I was reading it, but the hero's past has me cringing too. And the HEA was sweet, I admit.
Angela Knight's story, Dragon Dream, was utterly silly, in the way of Karma Girl by Jennifer Estep. It had me laughing from beginning to end. :)

The only reason I picked up this book is because I saw Lora Leigh's story is in it.
See, I have this love-hate relationship with Lora Leigh. All of her stories and series are promising but I always ended up annoyed and frustrated with it in the end; mainly the stupid and ridiculousness of the characters. But there were moments where I really enjoyed it reading her works because of the chemistry between the characters and she wrote awesome sex scenes. So I surprised to find myself lik...more

Beyond the Dark is an erotic paranormal read that will (*whew*) knock your socks off! With amazing contributors such as Lora Leigh and Angela Knight, readers will be seduced into a world of erotica that made even this “fairly liberal” gal blush and keep the pages from reaching the prying eyes of those sitting close to me on the bus!
With demons, vampires, mages, and devilishly erotic queens, readers will enjoy a tasteful, yet sensual, erotic paranormal adventure. I had first thought...more

I really enjoyed all the stories in this book. I devoured them in like two days. I know they're erotic paranormal but I read them more for the paranormal. I don't care much for novels with romance in them. The female characters were a little annoying, a little too perfect. The males were far more interesting. I loved that the stories didn't have vampires or werewolves- those themes have been done to death. The authors created their own creatures and their own worlds, both of which were so imagin...more
I expected another steamy paranormal romance anthology and instead got an extreme piece of paranormal erotica. Holy cow. If you are not into those types of books, stay away from this book. However, if erotica is your thing, then you will be enthralled with these four stories.
As typical with anthologies, a couple of the stories are better than the others. You'll experience demons, vampires, dark queens, man-wolves and devils. This is a dark anthology with magic, seductions, passion...more

I really loved the first and second story. Super heros in the first and a girl who can see their powers :) The Diana Whiteside was about a girl who is a holder of energy and rescues a guy from a storm, both hot and delicious. The third story was good, but I didn't like the whole we are god touched and must fuck a lot senario. They both just came off as over sexed fraks. And Lora Leigh, I must say that I just have given you all the tries that I can and officially am calling this relationship ...more

4-stars. This was so amusing. Loved the ideas on how they got their powers and I LOVED Arial's powers. Was great for such a short story.
Caught by the Tides By Diane Whiteside
1-star. I could barely get through the first chapter. I was so bored.
Queen of All She Surveys By Emma Holly

I have to be honest, I purchased this book simply because of the names on the cover. And wow, what a hot cover it was! I really tried to get into the stories, but found that they just couldn't keep my attention. I even put the book down multiple times and read another ebook in between its pages. The content of the novellas were sultry enough, just not inspiring enough to catch my more erotic side. I did like Lora Leigh's the best out of the four. I liked how she used the concept of glands on the...more

Another anthology! Beyond the Dark is an anthology of H&H in a demon world setting. And there's also Lora Leigh's Breed's story! Woot!
Dragon Dance by Angela Knight:
Ms. Knight always offers the most extra-spectacular for everyone to enjoy. Her story revolves around a world wherein humans have been found to have innate superpowers that made them extra special, unique and dangerous--calls them, 'Hyper'. Some uses their skills to help the police catch those who abuse theirs. Arial ...more

Well, the book was not what I hoped it would be.
Angela Knight's story was okay, funny but cliched and the whole alien thing was a bit over-the-top. But whatever. I'd give it a 3 star.
Lora Leigh just made my teeth ache with its sugar sweetness. She is so American goody-two-shoes that I want to throw up. The whole cliches are just too much. Grace is good, and so, she takes soups to friends, does the whole late night phone calls things, but then, turns around and hates the ...more

"Dragon Dance" by Angela Knight was an interesting, futuristic tale that focused mainly on a special type of human called a Hyper. Hypers have what most consider supernatural powers, and no one knows why they exist or who can become one of these special humans. When Sergeant Arial Dean, a hostage negotiator, tries to protect a family from its Hyper patron, two things happen: first, she learns that things can completely change with just a touch, and two the sexy federal Hyper agent Tr...more
This anthology is worth it for Emma Holly's story, Queen of All She Surveys alone, hence the five star rating. I reread that one pretty often. The Angela Knight story is enjoyable as well, and worth a reread or two. I can't stand the Breed series by Lora Leigh, it's full of painfully overbearing alphas and soulmate idiocy and tstl feisty heroines. The story here is no exception. Finally, the Diane Whiteside story didn't seem to fit the tone of the anthology and was sort of forgettable.

Reading "In a Wolf's Embrace" by Lora Leigh.
I actually really liked this one. Ever so much better than the last two (although they were written much earlier, which is probably a factor) and a lovely connection between the characters. I do wish we could have seen more of Matthias with Grace's family, which was lovely, but it is a short after all.
I thought I was done with the series, but I may keep going after all as this one was good.

Actually a 3.5 stars.
I only read the Lora Leigh.
This was a nice break from the full length books...Lora is one of the few authors that, in my opinion, do quite well in the anthologies. 4.5 stars!!!!
Ok...*sniff*...Pass the tissues, please....*sniff*
I loved it!!! The interaction between Mathias and Grace was fanastic. I thought that for a short story, this one nailed it. It had action, romance, suspence and Matthias!! OH MAN!!! *eeep* the piercings *thud* Talk about sweet talkin'.....that breed could sweet talk better than anybody.

1. Dragon Dance by Angela Knight
I really enjoyed this story. It was fun and sexy and a very cool idea for "mutant" humans and how they get their powers.
2. Caught by the Tides by Diane Whiteside

I have only read Lora Leigh's contribution to this book. She redeemed herself with this story. I was very disappointed in the last 2 books & 1 short story. I was worried that I just did not care for the wolf breeds. I really enjoyed Maththias & Grace's story. I think it is probably my favorite in the Breed series.
Only read Leigh's story so far. One of the best Breed stories. I absolutely loved it!!! I liked the way she built the relationship by sharing what happened between the two of them without watching it happen since it was a short story. Still managed to be romantice and a steamy one at that!
Angela Knight - loved it!
Lora Leigh - loved it!
Emma Holly - loved it!
Diane Whiteside - not so much
The problem with anthologies is the length of the story is to short and unless it is part of a series, there is not enough space to flesh out the story. Diane story need that. Love the rest of her stuff though.
