After having used Photoshop 7 for many years I finally took advantage of my teacher discount and picked up Photoshop CS/4 a few weeks ago. I bought this book based on the reputation of Scott Kelly and the fact that the book is geared towards photographers more so than graphic artists.
Kelby does a great job explaining things and includes a lot of pictures with circled references in red. Being extremely visual it was very helpful in helping me learn key concepts.

I love Scott Kelby's books on digital photography so of course I love this "how - to" book on CS4. I just recently got the program so I'm learning. I've read through most of this book but I know I'll come back to it time and time again as I experiment and learn more about the program.

Quite possibly the most important and best Photoshop book I've gone through to date. A generous portion of the book is spent on the new features of Adobe Camera Raw, an area with which--at the time--I was quite unfamiliar. Scott's style is straight forward and salted with a bit of humor for good measure. The exercises offer great practice and are relevant to every-day digital photography needs.
Scott Kelby is my favorite Photoshop author. This book is indispensible for anyone who uses Photoshop CS4 for their digital photography. Packed with helpful, easy-to-follow tips, this is a must-read.
Great resource. Kelby is the master of this stuff. If nothing else I'm forever grateful for that trick of using the ruler tool for rotating.
Great book. Provides practical, easy-to-follow advice for any photographer looking to take Photoshop to the next level.
This is an absolutly fantastic book, which explains and describes how to work with photoshop very simply and creative.
At about 500 pages, this is a massive resource for Photoshop. The absolute best thing about this book is the friendly tone, the straight-forward manner of describing the steps to do what you want to do in PS. The author adds suggestions for setting up your workspace in Bridge and PS, and tells you not only HOW to do a lot of stuff but WHY you might want to do it. I've been working in PS for about a year, and I waited to read this until I'd attemped a lot through trial and (lots of) error.

Loved this book! So easy to understand and super helpful as I try to navigate CS4.
