Got about 100 pages before I put it aside. It's not a bad book. It's well written (translated). It just struggled to keep my attention. The flow gets repetitive. The author keeps asking the same questions, keeps wrestling with emotional and political tension, keeps engaging similar conversations with Armenians. The highlight is the author's observational and perceptive writing style.

Hrant Dink'in katlinin yil donumlerinde yanlarinda olmak, Hrant'i beraber anmak istedim.

As an Armenian American removed from her roots this book touched me on several levels. Temelkuran writes pretty prose and narrates a history lesson like a journal entry. Her narrative is palatable and important--not just to Turks and Armenians, but to all people who struggle with their cultural ghosts.

What does it mean when a highly political journalist probes the Armenian Diaspora for reaction to Turkey's intransigence on acknowledging culpability for a century old genocide? And that journalist is Turkish, and a woman. Ece Temulkuran wrote several of the stories in this book before her friend and mentor Hrant Dinck, an Armenian newspaper editor, was cold-bloodedly murdered in a Turkish street in 2007 largely for his attempts to open the dialogue between Turks and Armenians on this very issue ...more

Obviously I read the English translation of this (Deep Mountain). Thoughtful dispatches from a liberal Turkish journalist from reporting trips to Armenia and Armenian diaspora communities in Europe and the U.S.

Ece Temelkuran'ın ilk kitabı benim için. Ağrı'nın ötesinde yaşayan Ermenilerin yaşadıkları, sahip olduğu duygular, Türkiye'ye karşı hislerini herhangi bir yorum katılmadan anlatılmaktadır. Nadir verdiğim 5 yıldızlı kitaplar arasındadır; tavsiye edilir.

Ece Temelkuran, Turkish author, was born in 1973. She is a daily columnist of one of the most popular Turkish newspapers for ten years and a prize winning journalist. Her primary concerns that she addresses are the contemporary criticism of popular culture, masques of politics, women issues, and all other deteriorating identities of humanity. She uses various forms of dramatic sentimentalism and b ...more
