Ruby Oliver begins junior year friendless due to an inaccurate reputation as "school slut". While her eccentric parents (performance artist and rare-plant gardener) believe her social anxiety is simply closeted lesbianism, the previous book (The Boyfriend List) covers the "long story" leading to her easy reputation. (Let's just say that kissing a best friend's boyfriend can lead to a serious social stigma). The Boy Book chronicles Ruby's struggle through boy crushes, therapy ...more

In this sequel to The Boyfriend List, Ruby Oliver must return to school and find a way to reinvent her role in high school. Kim is in Japan, and Jackson is now starting to show some interest in Ruby again. Ruby explores her relationship with Noel, Angelo, and even Doctor Z; she gets a job at the local zoo, and tries to choose what field trip to go on that won't leave her shunned and miserable. In other words, a fairly typical (though a bit exaggerated) exploration of the high school universe.

At the beginning of her junior year at Tate Prep, there are a handful of people who aren't speaking to Ruby Oliver. The most significant: her former friends.
Kim is not speaking to her, after the mess that went down their sophomore year. When Ruby and Jackson broke up, Ruby was astonished to find out he was with Kim. Ruby thought that Jackson's invitation to the Spring Fling dance as "just friends" was innocent enough...until they ended up sharing a kiss.

Ahahaha...
This book is not exactly anything educational, but it just looked adorable. :] I mean, look at it!
A freaking PENGUIN!!
Must I say more?
But sadly it's not anything about a penguin, hardly speaks of a penguin at all. But in all artistic purposes, it does fit in these circumstances, of course, after you read the book.
So Ruby just had the crappiest year ever. Her best friend, or should I say former best friend, took her ex-boyfriend...I guess you could say. But from Ruby's poi...more

Ruby Oliver, high school junior, has had a difficult time of things since the spring of her sophomore year and it doesn't appear that things are going to swing in her favor any time soon. Her boyfriend broke up with her and her three best friends are no longer speaking to her, and if this isn't enough to deal with, one of those former best friends is now dating Ruby's ex-boyfriend.

I do love E. Lockhart. The Boy Book is a cleverly amusing and witty story about Ruby, a high school junior who is still suffering the fallout of a catastrophic sophomore year. She lost her best friends and her boyfriend--all as a result of not following the Rules of Dating, as outlined in The Boy Book. The Boy Book is a rulebook on dating and boys, as compiled by Ruby and her ex-best friends. Now Ruby has rebuild her high school life as best she can. She learns that she can make new friends...more

Girls
This is the sequel to The Boyfriend List. Ruby has just started her junoir year of high school and she seems like the "leper" agian. But then she befriends Noel and they become great friends. May be a little more than friends? Well you have to read the book to know...but she is still fighting with her friends (well ex-friends) Kim, Nora, and Cricket. So there is a lot of more problems she has to deal with. In the first book, Ruby is dealing more with boyfriend problems and in this book...more

I do love these books, though they were way more serious than I would have guessed by the blurbs on the back or anything I'd read about them. Ruby's a believable teenage girl, if a very articulate one, and I love that she's standing up for herself now. And, okay, Kim as the "villain" may be understandable and even relatable, but not to the extent that I can't revel in despising her. muahaha.

This book is the sequel to "The Boyfriend List." After losing her friends and her boyfriend in the previous book, she attempts to make new friends and get over the loss of her old ones. It was good although you should read the first book before this one or else it might be a bit confusing!

Having lost all of her friends and become the school's leper the previous year for not following "the Rules of Dating," Ruby, now a junior, finds that she can make new friends, reconnect with some old ones and accept that some friends are lost forever. Each chapter begins with a Boy Book entry--from the opening "Care and Ownership of Boobs" to "Clever Comebacks to Catcalls."

eh. I love her neurouses, but Ruby's social stuff was a little grating. Noel was my favorite part of the book, he seemed more real than the rest of the characters. I also, and I can't believe I'm saying this, liked the open ending. It's pretty realistic for a book about a high school girl with social and romantic issues.

Again, Lockhart's dead on. I identify with Ruby, I love the premise, and the execution leaves me with no complaints. The machinations of high school girls ring true. It would have been easy for this story to get overblown or maudlin, but in Lockhart's hand it remains funny but wincingly real.

Just as fun as "The Boyfriend List" but not as good. The story picks up right where you leave off in the first book, but just isnt quite as good as the first one. Still a fun read, and was an excellent accompaniment for a day at the beach (also finished this in one read)

The continuing adventures of Ruby Oliver, who is dealing with another year as a social outcast with the few friends she has. Very engaging book, and it brings a bit more resolution to the storyline started in The Boyfriend List. Fast read, too.

My neighbor and I trade books all the time and I allowed her to borrow The Boyfriend List so we rushed to buy the Boy Book. Unfourtanatley we had to go buy a whole new copy when it was dropped in the toilet (p.s. It hadn't been flushed yet).

This book was not as good and the boyfriend list. I really, really liked the honest ending (seemed more like what I would actually do in the main character's situation) but was totally unsatisfied by it.

More of a story than The Boyfriend List, and therefore a bit more fun/gripping. Loving the way the main character is becoming a bit funnier and more Georgia Nicolson-esque too.
