"As the 'Book of Enoch' is, in some respects, the most notable extant apocalyptic work outside the canonical Scriptures, it will not be inappropriate to offer a few remarks here on the Apocalyptic Literature generally. Hope is, indeed, the main underlying motive-power which prompted the writers of the Apocalypses. And this hope is the more intensive and ardent in that...more

This volume of the Book of Enoch is a great one. It contains a very lengthy introduction filled with the history, discussion, disputes surrounding these writings, and references to other related works (of the time when this was written - 1912ish). Then the book content itself contains all of the text, with tons of added footnote and commentary throughout.

I had previously read the same translation, but the volume I had was strictly the content (with a minor introduction). This volume ...more

Book of Enoch is to the beginning of Earth as the Book of Revelations is to the End of times in the Holy Bible. It's wonderful content reveals more on who the "Sons of God" were. As mentioned in the Book of Genesis just before the great flood. It allowed me to realize a perspective in the verity on questions like, who these alien visitors were and why we do not have evidence of these visits. Also exposing the facts on who really built the pyramids. And gave man the knowledge responsibl...more

I read this book because Erich von Däniken referenced it in the History Channel's Ancient Aliens series. Also, I was interested in it because of my interest in John Dee and Emanuel Swedenborg, both authors profess an interaction with beings that may loosely be termed "Enochian Angels", which simply meanings that these beings are similar to those mentioned in this book.

This book melds the archetypal stories of Prometheus and the Fall of Man from Genesis. From this point of v...more

The Book of Enoch is a transitional piece of apocalyptica (!) written smack between the passage from Judaism to Christianity. So you have Sheol and not Hell, no Jesus but yes Son of God and so on. Some of the texts are as weird as the heaviest of the Nag Hammadi scriptures but in essence, tell of the same story of the time briefly described in Genesis, when the Nephilim came down from heaven and took human wives and worse, taught men agriculture, metal working, writing and so on. An A-level text...more

Brilliant (though old) translation and introduction, and a fascinating text. Should be required reading for anyone interested in the apocalyptic Judaism of the Second Temple era, and the elements of an understanding of the coming Messiah as a divine figure, seated on God's very throne. Moreover, can be found and downloaded online gratis.

Totally up my street, particularly the "Book of Watchers". An apocryphal work - not considered part of scriptural canon, but fascinating. And did you know that his wife was called Edna?!

One part good mythology (antediluvian Hebrew myth and angelology), one part bad astronomy, and one part fire-and-brimstone judgment and punishment.

If you're a fan of biblical work, this is a good addition to your bookshelf. Don't expect to be swept off your feet as the translation leaves much to be desired - it doesn't read like the rest of the Bible. Still, a good read nonetheless.

Read through curiosity. it's a little repetitive but i read the bits on the watchers and the angels

Very good version of the Book of Enoch that incorporates many manuscripts. Reading this book I find nothing obviously heretical (e.g. gnostic, legalistic, or anything), but I don't believe it is necessarily inspired. It may or may not be written by the actual Enoch of the Bible. It's amazing however, the parallels to New Testament thought and the coming "Son of Man" (Jesus) that it refers to. Oldest fragments and manuscripts date to 200-100 BC. Jude v. 14-15 quotes a verse in Enoc...more

Interesting read and a great edition. As the introduction says, it is not as juicy as it is made out to be by the likes of OGD and John Dee.
