I decided to to read Angel"s Bidding because Sharon Short is a local author who lives in my area. I reserved her new book, "One Square Inch of Alaska" and since I was 8th in line, I decided to read her other books which are mysteries. This one is her first book and I found it to be well paced with good investigative skills by Patricia Delaney who is called on by Kauffman Real Estate and Autioneerin to find out what happened to a missing employee and also a missing $100,000. One of the owner's da ...more

Patricia Delaney (PI, Investigative Consultant, Patty-cakes) was admiring the 12 Victorian age unique & unusual hatpins with attached messages to each 1 that were in an envelope. The hatpins were now all lined up in a neat row on her desk. Elsa Kauffman (general manager & bookkeeper, Physics/chemistry) was sitting across from her & wanted Patricia to find Andy Lawson (real estate agent), & $100,000 were both missing. Gertrude Kauffman (92, grandmother) had been the owner of the h ...more

Angel’s Bidding is the first installment in the series of three Sharon Short’s Patricia Delaney detective novels being re-released in electronic versions. The books, written in the 90s, are no longer in print.

This first story in this series involves hatpins. Yes, you read it right: several good old fashioned hatpins to which are attached sinister notes. Delaney is approached by Elsa Kauffman to find out who is sending them to her father and what they mean. Elsa has kept the hatpins from her fat

Patricia Delaney is an investigative consultant who relies on her computer access to databases to gather information for her cases. Delaney is an 'egumshoe' which for the 1990s, when this series takes place, is a new concept. But Delaney is more than a computer nerd. She doesn't mind getting messy either in her search for answers. Delaney is hired to track down what happened to a missing $100,000 from a family business as well as find out who took the money and why someone is sending the elderly ...more

First the disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I found the book to be well-written, with a good plot and a decent element of mystery. There was certainly nothing exceptional about any of the characters, situations or circumstances; this was very much a standard semi-cozy mystery complete with pet-owning, single, private investigator with a hobby, like so very many other series out there. I imagine within a couple of months I will have totally forgotten
