Where do I start? Let's see how about with:

The Good

I liked Cain and Felicity and would like to see more about them. I enjoyed Ben and Allie and even Sindy and am intrigued as to where all this is going. So much so, that I will continue with the series.

I read this book the first time almost six months ago. At the time I thought it was a good book but maybe not to my taste. The writing style was good, the characters well flushed out, the plot interesting. Why not to my taste? I'm ashamed to admit it, but maybe not spicy enough. Someone rips the assailant off, and Felicity will soon learn that she was saved by the enigmatic Cain. He’s a handsome stranger who often spends his evening at the café in the bookstore where she works, and one evening she asks him to walk her back to the dorm. He teaches her self-defense, she buys him ice cream, and it seems like a promising relationship. All is, however, not what it appears to be.

When I first started reading the book, I thought I might be a little too old for it; Felicity is just out of high school, and has just moved out of her parents to go to college. However, some of Nowak’s descriptions brought me back to being a teenager, with all the complications that part of life had, and that was nice. Felicity also has a mature way of reasoning, and she has both self-restraint and integrity. She’s a good character that at times made me laugh.

I also thought, “Another vampire story? Really?” These days it’s almost impossible to turn on the TV, go to the bookstore, the movies, or look on the first page of MySpace without seeing vampires, and I’ve actually been trying to stay away from most of them. The strength in Nowak’s book lies in making the hero more than “just” a vampire; he’s a likeable person with his own struggles and problems, and “real” people become interesting, no matter what species they might be.

The author has a way of switching the character’s points of view dedicating entire chapters to one person, and that confused me before I got the hang of it. It makes the time-line a little puzzling since the story at times backs up half a day or so, and it took a few chapters before I understood that I actually had to read the chapter name, see who was speaking and what time it was. Once I got into the way of thinking, it wasn’t a problem.

Parts of the story are predictable, of course they are; it’s a love story between a human and a vampire. Parts of the characters’ inner life seem a bit redundant when reading it, but honestly, who wouldn’t be confused with things like these happening? I have to admit that I might have skipped over a few pages here and there, but I do that in lots of books. When I read Stephen King books, I at times skip over entire chapters, and as popular as he is, it’s probably a flaw in my brain and not in the books.

I really like Cain. He’s an interesting character that I wouldn’t mind meeting. The story flows well, and it’s cute. I like cute. The author shows good imagination, and an ability to describe the environments and characters without slowing down the action. I enjoyed reading the book, and I am already looking forward to getting into the next one. I want to see what happens to them? Will there be a happy ending? If you’re looking for a breezy story that’s easy to get into and read, odds are that you’ll appreciate “Fatal Infatuation.”(less)

This book reads like a really bad high school creative writing assignment. I bought this and the other 2 books in this trilogy from Amazon because of the great ratings and recommendations it inspired. I was excited to start reading it, but when I did I was sorely disappointed. The writing is very amateur and there are many inconsistencies. The characters are not developed well and I never came to connect with or care about any of them.

Cain, the main vampire character has many similarities to Edward Cullen from Twilight. He is a "good guy" tortured soul that feels that he is not worthy of his love interest because of the sins of his past. He is set apart from other vampires because he tries to live in harmony with humans. Also, like Edward, he has taken a protective role for his love interest. But Cain lacks substance and has zero personality. He goes traipsing through the town killing newly created vampires with stakes THE SIZE OF A PENCIL...no kidding. SO not sexy! And there's one scene where he's losing a fight with another vampire, so he just bails. Just turns and runs away. Twilight haters can say what they want about Edward, but you never saw him turn and run from a fight! Then there's the Felicity chick - the leading lady, who has just started college in a new town. Her character was more developed than Cain's, but something about her turned me off. She was annoying to me for some reason...

I thought the dialogue between the characters was juvenile. I kept reading thinking it would get better. I got over halfway through the book, but I just cant see spending any more time on this series. It never drew me in. When I sat down to read, I was never excited to find out what would happen next. I found myself trying to read really fast so I could finish it and move on to the next book, but I ended up doing something with this book that I very rarely do; I abandoned ship before I read the whole thing.

If I could give this thing 1/4 star, I would... But no can do, so 1 star it is.(less)

Cain reminded me of Edward Cullen from Twilight where he’s the nice guy with a tortured soul that feels he is not worthy because of his past sins. He also reminded me of Bill Compton from True Blood Series because of his desire for Felicity, his regretted past, and the fact that he hung out in a Book Store/ Down Time Café drinking coffee where the Employee Ben knew he was a vampire but served him anyway. There are more similarities that I could mention but I must move on.

Felicity is a freshman in college and very immature and naïve when it comes to knowing about the vampires in town. She is very self conscious about herself but she seems to grow up throughout the book. The romance between Felicity and Cain is more like infatuation because of Cain’s vampire sexual magnetism. Cain seems to be able to keep himself in check when around Felicity and she seems to want to lose control.

Felicity is trying to figure out who she wants to be, and finds a job at Down Time Books & Café working in the bookstore. After her first day on the new job, she starts walking home together with Ben who works in the Café part, and they’re attacked by newly turned vampires. Superhumanly strong, the girl who jumps Felicity changes in front of the heroine’s terrified eyes. Felicity freaks out because the girl she is staring at has fangs and red eyes. Cain comes to the rescue and Felicity finds herself drawn to him and gets the nerve up to ask him to teach her how to fight the vampires. The story takes off from there.

I never really got a true connection with any of the characters or the story. I kept waiting for it to wrap me in and I hate to say it but I couldn’t even finish the book. I felt like it was major labor just trying to read through it.

Not terrible. A Facebook friend recommended this book, and I get the feeling she had met the author. Or, she's trying to drum up support for an independent writer. I think I understand (from the afterword) that Mrs. Nowak was able to self-publish on kindle. I salute her effort.

Having said that, the book is a little on the Twilight-y side. It's not bad, and certainly Felicity has a great deal more gumption than Bella Swan. Of course, so do most doormats, but I don't wish to be unkind. I believe...more

When I started reading Fatal Infatuation I was really excited to have found another new series. For the most part I did enjoy this book.
Felicity is a freshman in college. This is a fresh start for her. She's hoping to reinvent herself. Become the person she was always too shy to be in high school. She moves into her own dorm room and finds a great job at a local bookstore. I like this book. There are parts of it that reminds me of "Twilight". It doesn't seem to have the undying romance that Twilight has, but it is a little bit more realistic (if vamps can be realistic). Cain doesn't become obsessed with Felicity right off the bat. You can actually see them getting to know each other before "feelings" start to happen. There is also Ben, her best friend. So the "love" triangle in this book is similar to Twilight, except you don't really know if Ben is truly interested in her but you kind of get a feeling. The book is only told in two points of view - Cain and Felicity

This is my review for the first book only. I am reading the second as we speak. So far the book is interesting but the author seems to have run on thoughts that could last up to three pages about the same subject and I find my self skimming (which I don't do). The run - on subjects, at times start to contradict them selves within the thought (Ex. I like her but maybe this girl wouldn't be so bad on down the road). Maybe that is a true way of thinking for a lot of people but it made the character fickle to me. (If you don't know what I am talking about just read the last paragraph in the first book). I guess I am use to vamps like "Edward". When they fall in love they fall fast and hard (all "she's mine"). This vamp seems to take his time kind of like real life.

So far, I really like it (except for all the extra analyzing). The first book is good to get you hooked. Weirdly enough - I am usually a "Team Edward" type of girl (always rooting for the vamp) but actually in the first book I am actually "Team Ben". It might change on down the line, who knows, but the second book is turning out to be even better!

For all you vampire lovers this is a book for you!
It has all the great elements of a great story, complete with romance, suspense and drama. It seemed to have the right touch of everything for me.
I liked the flow of the author's writing as well. Every page seemed connected and often that is not the case. This book is nicely done.
I am surely to recommend this one to all paranormal junkies, don't be put off by the cover. I wasn't fond of it either, but the cover doesn't make the story.

You simply cannot mix the Bible and vampires. The 2 do not mix and I found myself frustrated and the storyline ridiculous! I think that Twilight is the most wholesome that a vampire can become...this book just took it to the next level and I couldn't take it. I only read the 1st book and I am done. Maybe it improves in the next 2 books but I cannot torture myself like that. Please don't quote Beth Moore, and scripture in a vampire book!

This book has been on my radar since 2009, I read the reviews and they all seemed consistent so I decided to give it a go. Some of the characters were annoying as hell, and that is probably why I will not finish the other two books. Really enjoyed this book right from the first page. I love Melanie's writing style as I really felt as if I knew the characters quite well very early on in the book. I had to force myself to put it down and am glad that I purchased all 3 books at once so that I could start reading the second one straight away.
