Well. I loved this book when I was about 10. Loved it a little too much, I think. For a stretch, I took it out from the library every other week or so.
It's pure fluff: a teenage girl who lives in Nowhere, America is informed that a dying nurse in some far off (fictional) European country - where she had been born while her parents were on vacation - admitted on her deathbed to switching the princess with... said teenage girl. So, logically, she gets shipped off to the tiny Europ More...

An easy-going, playful read between young kids who find out that their inner family isn't really their inner family but someone elses'. Can you imagine how life would be if the parents who picked you up after you fell off your bike, the people who nurtured you all those years were suppose to be just strangers. Also, I loved the cute crush scenes between the main character and a sweet guy.

What happens if you go from being the girl next door to being a princess who can't control the bustle underneath her dress and ends up flashing an entire ballroom? What happens if you were the princess who was suddenly told she wasn't? A tale of enemies, friends, love and wickedly funny hi-jinx.

i'm pretty confident i couldn't possibly enjoy this book as an adult but when i was a kid, it rocked my world (hence the 4 star rating). i'm pretty sure my best friend and i took turns checking it out of the library which meant that it never hit the shelves for more than a few hours that summer.

I read this when I was a wee book-nerd-in-training and just remembered it a few days ago. Light and sweet and pablum-y in a good way. For some reason I always remember her saying that jumping into her new princess bed felt so good it should have been illegal, or at least fattening. Cute.

Oh my goodness, this was one of my favorite books growing up. I read it so many times I think I had parts memorized. I think I went through two copies of my own since I was tired of getting it from the library, haha. Great teen fiction book!

(genre:teen fiction) Funny book written back in the 80's (yeah!) about a 16 year old American girl who discovers that she was switched at birth and is actually a princess. Very light hearted and an extremely quick read, which was just what I needed. I loved all the Wizard of Oz quotes/references that the author threw in (the main character grew up in Kansas) and the "displaced" princess was a riot. Lots of fun!

For reasons I no longer quite understand, this was my absolute favorite book as a child. She went rollerskating to Def Leppard in the palace! There was a guy named Geoff! SAXONY-COBURN! IDEK.

I read this in the third grade when my class took a field trip to the Port Austin Library. I remember loving it. I wonder what I would think of it now...

the plot is simple but interesting. The humour is slight but you can laugh hard, and moreover, the story is sweet! A scandalous romance! :D

I read this as a preteen... it's a modernized, sanitized version of The Prince and the Pauper with princesses instead of princes.

Loved this book two decades ago. Don't know what I would think of it now.

It was a good book. Not as good as Harry Potter, but I really like it. :)

i can't stand this author. she is such a terrible writer! i couldn't even get past the first chapter! she has a clunky, ugly style of writing and everything seems so fake! "oh, don't tell me that i was switched at birth with a princess." that is almost the exact quote. "next thing you'll be telling me that i need to go trade places with her and claim my rightful place as princess of *insert the country's wierd name here*." i kid you not. ugh.

OOO!!! This is one of my all-time favorite books!!! Thanks to my other friend, Liz, who introduced this book to me like in 4th grade! It's got great humor, romance, and a betrothal to a guy who's "blood boils easily" (meaning he pretty much could fall in love with any girl at anytime) and freaks me out! I recommend this to all girls who love romantic comedies. Yeah, it's written for teen/tweens, but ya' gotta love it!

It's been a while since I read it completely, but I remember when I first did, I adored it. If I'd rated it then, it likely would have gotten a 4.5 or 5.
But that was a few years ago. Fairly recently, I looked at it again, briefly. I found it a bit 'sugary' for me now. Thus the 3 stars.
I may look at it again, though, just to see what I think of it now.

My absolute favorite book of all time! I read it in the 7th grade and read it ever year after that. About a girl who was accidentally switched at birth with a Princess, and now she has to go back to her kingdom and learn how to become a Princess. This book is full of funny moments, and even has a small touch of romance. It's good for anyone at any age!

The precursor to The Princess Diaries. What female preteenager doesn't want to read a witty book where an ordinary girl suddenly finds out she was switched at birth and is the princess of a small made-up European country? This one earns bonus points when the princess rollerskates through the palace while being towed by a large dog.

I've been reading a little Ellen Conford lately, enjoying her high school characters. I don't remember reading this when I was a kid, but I DO remember the name of the country the heroine became princess of--Saxony-Coburn. Which is completely crazy. Anyway, I obviously read this way back when--it was a light, fun read.

The beginning starts off a little too quickly for my taste, but I found this book to be pretty enjoyable. I loved the characters (even though Prince Casimir seemed to be there just to hate), and the emotions that were brought into this book. It had humor, and I loved the voice of the main character.

Abby Adams finds out that she's really a princess of a small European country due to an accident of switched-at-birth circumstances. It was a short fluffy read that was mildly amusing, but I thought could have been done much better. The ending was too short and coincidental.

Princess Diaries, schmincess diaries...this one came out way before that one did. It tells the hilarious story of a girl who learns she's a princess, but she doesn't want to conform to their ideals. Loved, loved this book when I was a preteen. A lot of fun!
