This satire explores several philosophical and social issues, some of which would later take the forefront in his final novel Island, about a figure from Greek mythology to whom Zeus gave eternal life but not eternal youth.
”The action revolves around a few main characters brought together by a Hollywood millionaire, Jo Stoyte. Each character represents a different philosophy of living life.

Huxley filled numerous pages with rants of a philosophical and theological nature making for some incredibly boring reading at times. But a handful of interesting, if not lovable, characters, a decent plot and an ending that ties up all the loose ends make for an overall entertaining read.

either this book is too much a product of its own time, or i'm too much a reader of mine. the philosophizing was interesting, but bogged down the action of the story. i would have liked to have seen more happen.

One of my favorite books, very disturbing take on American manias and Hollywood. Haven't read it in awhile but recommend it to anyone interested in the roots of literary science fiction or dark satire.

Wonderful spoof on youth-obsessed culture, not in the least hampered (and probably aided) by a fairly far-fetched scientific plot device. Let's just say I've never looked at carp the same way since.

I haven't read this for many years, but it was one of the most lovely pieces of writing I had read.

An overlooked work of his. Moved me, but still can't figure out why. Still find it disturbing me.

Wacky. Great for its satire of Los Angeles culture of the 1930's, a bit preachy in spots.
