This one that I'm glad I own and I'll never donate it. I'm just starting to re-read it. This book is a blue print for developing an eye for taking pictures.

It contains principles and a framework to think about what you see. This has allowed me to gain much more control and understanding over how I get a good result, rather than just taking my chances and hoping it happens.

I don't think you really think about these principles when taking pictures, it's more like you l...more

I found this book particularly helpful. I'm visual and Freeman gave diagrams and illustrations that depict the theme/issue/idea/concept that he is writing about. I learned an innumerable amount of information on composition that I now always use and think about when composing my photographs. I highly recommend this book.

Was an introduction for me, as far as general composition goes. Lots of great examples in the form of photographs that reinforce the writing.

I really enjoyed this book. The focus is on the creative side of photography and reading it just makes you wan to go out and take more - and hopefully better - pictures.

I'm learning a lot about photography by trial and error in terms of technical elements. However, this book has information of a different type. Chapters titles are "The Image Frame" "Design Basics" "Graphic and Photographic Elements" "Composing With Light and Color" "Intent" and "Process".

This is easily one of the best books on photography that I have ever read. The explanations of technique and composition are detailed but easily understood, and the photography is fantastic. Focal Press did a great job with the printing as well. Highly recommended to anyone interested in photography.

A fantastic read. One of the best photography books I've read. It is an invaluable resource for expanding your photographic and artistic compositional knowledge and has some very good discussions on relevant art theory as well.

In general a book about photo composition for someone who has advanced beyond the beginner stage of digital photography. Most of the subject matter was clearly discussed and could be readily put into use.

It was a good, and not too terribly overwhelming, book about photographic composition.
