Five Conversations You Must Have With Your Daughter is a very informative book. The author, Vicki Courtney, is honest about subjects we need to broach with our young girls. She also highlights areas we need to watch in our relationship with our daughters to keep them wanting to talk with us about what is happening in their lives. Her major sources of advice come from verses in the Bible. She stresses that we need to keep these Biblical principles as the guidelines for steering our daughters’

I didn't realize this was written by some evangelical lady but the first couple of chapters were good. Let me save you the time of reading it and summarize the main points I got out of it:
1) Fashion magazines are like drugs or alcohol for your daughter's self-image
2) Be flexible on some rules but not on having your daughter dress immodestly
3) Don't let your daughter date unless in a large group until late high school
4) Encourage your daughter t More...

this was a really easy and quick read. it was kind of like sitting down with an older lady at church and getting all her wisdom and good advice. some parts made me laugh a little--the evils of secular music, for instance--but on the whole it had some good grandmotherly advice for moms of girls. the things in this book were things i had already discussed and decided on with my husband long before we even had our baby, but i definitely would recommend this to any mom of girls who is not sure how t

Vicki Courtney has written a wonderful resource for mothers. 5 Conversations You Must Have With Your Daughter is full of encouraging advice about how to approach the tough topics with your daughter at each stage of her growing up years. She not only shares her advice, but her experiences - both good and bad, and information from a lot research that helps you understand the battle we are facing as women.

Great resource for all moms to read and keep on their shelves. The tone of the book made me feel like I was sitting at coffee with a seasoned mom who has done her research, sought God's wisdom through the Bible and prayer, and shares her experiences candidly. I appreciate that there are tips for three different stages of development - 5 and under, 6 to 12, and 12 and over - which help equip moms to have these conversations at each stage or to jump in at whatever stage you daughter is currently i

I found this book very insightful and I will definitely use a lot of what I've read. However, I felt at time that the tone of the book was kind of judgemental, especially the second half. Wasn't too keen on that.

I'm not sure that I will agree with all the points this author makes, but I do value listening to the advice of others and judging for myself what I think is good and useful for our children.

The book and discussions really made me rethink some of the conversations I have/haven't had with my kids.
I will be restudying it soon!

This is one to purchase and keep as a reference. I highly recommend it for anyone who has a girl. These are conversations that you begin when your daughter is very young, and they continue until she is out of the house. The depth of the conversations will change as your daughter ages. Many points are things you already know but I certainly needed to reminded to look for ways to incorporate them into our daily lives.

I'm glad I read this book but am thankful it's not the only parenting book I've read! Good for information/statistics and thought-provoking about what messages I'm sending to my daughter. Definitely not a heart-of-the-issue type book (but that's what Girl Talk and Age of Opportunity are for!)

Glad I read it - wish it considered single parents in its perspective and the unique challenges of making decisions/granting permissions in 2 households (e.g., what do you do if Dad lets her shave her legs and you don't think it's time?).

This is an amazing, current book, filled with distressing (but true) statistics about girls and the pressures they face in our culture. Great advice and wisdom about how to have open communication with your daughters about these topics. I know I will read this multiple times as my girls grow.

I'm so glad I found this book now while my daughter is still so young - a must-read for moms of girls before they are tweens!

The statisitics in this book were eye opening!! I appreciated that it was written with a very Christian influence and I thought it gave some great ideas and advice to those of us trying to raise healthy virtuous daughters in this crazy world.
