While her boss becomes entranced with a beautiful armoire at the countywide craft bazaar, Maggie can't help noticing the Amish craftsman who made it. Though his clothes may be plain, he himself is more handsome than a man sporting a jawline-only beard has any right to be. And he seems pretty aware that the ladies love his...furniture. But when the hunky craftsman turns up...more

Basic Plot: Maggie finds herself at the center of another murder in small-town Indiana, this time of an Amish man.

I think Alt has found her stride with this book, and I found myself actually glad that I hadn't given up on the series after such a disappointing sophomore effort as the second book was. I finished this book WAY faster than book 2. The pacing of the mystery was much better, she doled out the clues with a little more subtlety (which made the mystery actually mysterious!), and Maggie d...more

The 3rd book in the Bewitching Mystery Series.

Maggie knows that something is not right with her town. She can feel it in her newly found empathic bones. She tags along with her boss and friend Felicity Dow to the countywide craft bazaar in the hopes of scoring some locally made treasures that they can sell at Felicity’s shop Enchantments. While there, Felicity bids on an armoire at the craft auction made by their friend Eli and another Amish craftsman Luc Metzger. Luc is quite the hotty - and mo...more

Although I find there are way too many paranormal mystery series out there, I cannot help myself from picking them up and enjoying them thoroughly. They're like crack! Addictive! Mind, I'm not complaining, but I read them quicker than they are being published...lol

This book does not disappoint. Maggie is an empath, she has the ability to feel other people's emotions and sometimes even the reason behind the emotions that they're having. And she knows that something "evil" is happening around/in h...more

I do enjoy Maggie O’Neill and her struggles to come to terms with her paranormal talent as an empath. In the start of this book, while she acknowledges her gift and has come to accept, love and join others in the paranormal community in her small town, she still is trying to decide if she should embrace her talent or try to avoid it, bury it and shield herself from it.

This is definitely a cozy mystery, but a good cozy mystery. While Maggie can be impetuous and impulsive, she does have good comm...more

The third installment in the Bewitching Mysteries series was definitely my favorite thus far. Maggie is finally growing as a character and even though I rate Ms. Alt's book at a nonstop 4, it doesn't seem like a sort of half-hearted chick lit to me. This book's storyline was much more involved and rounded.

Winter has come and gone, with two murders under it's belt, in Stony Mill Indiana. It;s the opening day of the country fermer's market/craft bazaar and the main item of interest in the auction...more

Here we are into the third entry into the Bewitching Mystery series. So what's Maggie into this time? The murder of an Amish ladies' man, one who's married and has young kids, at that. She also has struggles with her love life and is overcoming her fear of the "unknown" and becoming more adept at using her gift.

May contain minor spoilers of previous books.

A few times throughout this short book (246 pages), I felt like throwing in the towel. After reading the first book, I really felt this was a...more

This series is more mystery with a bit of romance & paranormal tossed in than true PNR. Fans of Victoria Laurie will also like this series.

In this book, our protagonist, Maggie goes with her boss to the local craft fair where they fall in love with a armoire crafted by a stunningly attractive Amish man. A man who, later that evening, turns up dead. When a folk magic hex sign is found near his body, Maggie and friends begin working to unravel the mystery of his death . . . but Maggie's on-aga...more

I got the first two books in this series from out of my Uncle's stash. He may have had the rest of them as well in paperback, but I didn't want to wait until we brought the next bath down to find out. ;)

Definitely just a light, fluffy mystery read that continues to entertain.

The end of this one was especially amusing in regards to her personal relationships.

Maggie kind of backs off from embracing her abilities as an empath in this one which was sliiiightly disappointing, but...more

Hex Marks the Spot was the first book I read in the Bewitching Mystery series and my least favorite. A lot of interesting ghost action in this novel and the mystery itself was good, if forgotten at some point. The focus shifts from the murder to the growing love-triangle between Tom, Maggie and Marcus and seems to forget to return to the murder for a good chunk of time. Once back on the trail of the killer, the mystery is quickly and neatly wrapped up, leaving only Maggie's love life up in the a...more

I didn't love this one... The first two were fabulous fun reads. This one delves into the main character's magickal angst a little too much for my taste. The cast around her though are a riot and definitely you'd like to know...

After reading the first two books in the series, I went ahead and started this one,but I just couldn't finish it! I couldn't take anymore of Maggie's " I don't understand it so I'm going to act like a stupid twit" behavior. Frankly I think she treats her friends horribly, and her constant meddling in the investigations wasn't clever and her non-existent love life was highly uninteresting. I guess I should just say I didn't like how the character was growing ( or lack thereof) , and the storyline...more

This third installment of Alt's Bewitching series was just as good as the first two. The who-done-it part was predictable but Alt kept us hanging this time with a lot of which man was Maggie going to choose - safe, policeman Tom or dark, dreamy Marcus? What fun! The mystery involved another murder in Stony Mill, this time with an Amish craftsman. Hex markings start to show up and understanding them is the key to finding the killer. A library ghost hunt made for a wonderful sub-plot. I'm looking...more

I am really enjoying this series. This is the best one yet. Maggie O'Neill's acquantances are dropping like flies...three murders in six months. Of course, Maggie gets involved in this one too and solves it as well. Maggie is torn between two men - Marcus (a wizard) and Tom (a cop). Tom is keeping her at a distance claiming too busy with cop stuff to have time for her. And Maggies thinks Marcus is having relations with Felicity (her boss) but is still attracted to his bad boy image. It's fun to...more

The former volume had an explosive, unexpected ending. I was certain Felicity and others would discuss the phenomena Maggie dredged up to save her life! I was perplexed "Hex Marks The Spot" backslid instead. The normal outcome would be to explore the energy she accessed, in thankfulness. Instead, she's so afraid, she can't bear to join a large group for benign ghost-hunting? At the opportunity to see a haunted building or orb photography; I've rarely met anyone who's reaction wasn’t "Cool!" I re...more

This is still a great series that I am enjoying, but the love issues of the main characters is beginning to wear thin with me. It's clear that the author is trying to make this aspect more suspenseful, but it's frustrating to me that the character stays "dating" a guy who really has no interest in a committed relationship with her nor is he supportive of her growing self-awareness while she privately lusts after a man who does both. It's annoying. But the mystery itself is good and keeps me read...more

For anyone who regularly reads mysteries, the "mystery" here is solved the first time you meet the particular character who is the guilty party. As for the stuff that goes on around that, it's an okay read--sort of empty calories, but not anything harmful to your braincells and some nice escape fiction. What I liked most about Hex Marks is the fact that main character Maggie O'Neill has at oh so very long last (i.e., only in the third book of a multi-book series) finally been able to distinguish...more

This is 4th in the Maggie O'Neill series. Maggie works at Enchantments, an antique store in small town Stony Mill, Indiana, and is a fledgling empath. Her boss, Felicity Dow, own the store and is also a witch. Maggie became aware of her empath ability in the first book and has been helped along by Felicity along with a circle of friends who have their own individual magic. In this book, Maggie helps solve the murder of Luc Metzger, an Amish farmer. Strange things have been happening in Stony Mil...more

This is Book Three in the "Bewitching Mysteries" series, and continues the story of Maggie O'Neill, who works for Felicity Dow, a Witch, at Enchantments Antiques and Fine Gifts in Stony Mill, Indiana. Maggie is an empath, and she senses all is not well in her peaceful hometown, but she can't quite put her finger on what's disturbing her.

However, when Maggie and Felicity attend the annual craft bazaar they find not only lots of tasty food but also a beautiful handmade armoire decorated with hex s...more

This was definitely a "cozy mystery"... a murder mystery that had a little romance. As you can guess from the title, it had a supernatural feel to it with hexes, witches, symbols, and seers. Unfortunately, one part I didn't enjoy was the religious part of the book. I felt it was a mix between a Christian novel and an Amish novel, not a series I would continue to read.
Erin
This is a fun mystery! Not only does Maggie find herself caught in the middle of yet another murder mystery, but that love triangle is really getting good now. The Amish setting is equally interesting, although I would have liked to know more about the Amish characters. It's easy to get invested. I find myself talking to the book telling Maggie to open her eyes!
Christine
It's hard to give these more than two stars... but they are enjoyable for what they are. Keeping in mind that they are written and edited so quickly that obvious spelling mistakes get through.
It would be nice if the main character had a little more moxy, perhaps we are working towards that? I'll keep reading.
Judy
Good book, Amish in Indiana are involved; women who run a enchantment shop; murder of one of the Amish men and how Maggie and friends feel and sense things. Fun read. If I can get a copy of the first two in the series it may make a little more sense to me who the characters are, etc. I'll find them eventually.

This is fun series. They are light hearted and entertaining without trying too hard. The characters are all likeable if not loveable and Maggie is genuine, if a bit looney. These are great books to curl up with on a rainy afternoon in front of a fire and just read way the time.
Amanda
This is a fun, easy to read mystery series. Mystery books are not always my favorite genre, but I keep coming back to this one. Alt does a great job making the mysteries tangle into Maggie's life and not just appear out of thin air. I like that a lot. Also the magical edge that Maggie has as well as her small Indiana town are aspects I enjoy and I relate to her point of view. I really like this series and I recommend any of her books to anyone who likes mystery novels, magic or just a small chan...more

I found finishing the story a real challenge because I lost empathy and interest in Maggie. (view spoiler)[ I don't understand her obsession with Tom. He's not a bad or distasteful person, but he's very close-minded, somewhat prejudiced, doesn't trust her, and HE'S STILL MARRIED! Marcus is a much better match in every way, but Maggie seems determined to force a relationship with Tom instead. And my irritation and exasperation with Maggie's determination has destroyed my interest in this series....more

I think I'm liking Maggie, the main character, more with each book. This story revolves around a death in the local Amish community - with some strange witchcraft connections. A bit of a surprising ending. All in all, very enjoyable.
Alex
I'm still enjoying this cute little series.

However, I am SO SICK OF TOM! That really is my only beef with this series so far, actually. For the life of me, I cannot understand why Maggie is so hung up on Tom when she has Marcus in the wings!
Stephanie
I thought that this 3rd book in the series dragged. I like the series but I am having trouble liking the love/hate relationship Maggie has with Tom. He is definitely my least favorite character. Otherwise, it was an ok book. Not a favorite.

Not bad. Not great. Ok for passing the time on a Saturday afternoon when I wanted to do absolutely nothing but sit in my chair and exercise neither my mind nor my body. To that end, it was perfect.
Rachel
3.5. I thought this was definitely better than the first two in the series. There was a bit more character development (finally!), and the "mystery" seemed stronger and more entertaining this time around.
