Scarred
Growing up, Sophie carried a terrible secret. She was her father's slave, in the most horrific ways imaginable. At just a few months old she was adopted by a couple that seemed comfortably off and perfectly respectable to the outside world. But behind closed doors, Sophie's childhood was a living hell. Her father spent the next decade grooming her for abuse and when Sophie...more

It's always shocking to discover the depths of depravity that some people will sink to. It's such a case in 'Scarred'. You'd think parents would love, cherish and encourage a child to develop and blossom into a young adult. Unfortunately, for the girl in this true life story, such was not the case.

Sophie's first hand account of the abuse the suffered at the hands of her father, and how she felt for a lot of her life about it was both heartbreaking, and eye opening about the facts surrounding child abuse. It's a heartwrenching book, and the only times I could put it down was when I got so distressed by what I was reading, that I had to take a break. I couldn't believe how someone like her father could live.

Biography of the most brutal kind. Depressing to think that this really happened to someone. Amazing to think that someone could find a sense of balance and understanding about her past after experiencing such a godforsaken life. Incredible that this person could then turn around and attempt to help others through similar experiences. I have nothing to complain about ever.
All editing and writing comments aside, I enjoyed this book. As a mental health professional, I found it very real and honest, as well as refreshing. It is never easy to admit failure or lack of progress, but mental health and addiction are wrought with both. And that's OK. It makes the successes, however minute, all the more incredible. I applaud the author.
This book is a page-turner, even though the subject matter is difficult to read about. This is the first time I read a book about someone that self-harmed and I found it really painful and sad. Very well written, you actually feel like you are there with Sophie. I particularly enjoyed her vivid account of life in the psychiatric hospital. It's a roller coaster ride, but in the end, very inspirational. I admire her courage and fighting spirit.
Sophie Andrews tells the harrowing story of her life. What she went through was heart breaking and on her father's part, inhumane. How parents can treat there children (biological/adopted) in such ways astounds me and I have to force myself to believe it. I could never put my own children through such hell. A book worth reading.

Not really sure how to review this/rate someone's life story. In terms of writing, the book was done well. It was easy to follow the events and when they happened and the style is clear and non-fussy. Sophie Andrews managed to tell her story without going off on too many rambles. That said, I read for entertainment and this was definitely not entertaining. I found it really uncomfortable to read. The descriptions of the child abuse were too graphic and I found myself trying to skim over them. I...more
I loved this book. It was well written from begining to end and there was times i thought i was actually there with her. For this to be a true story it is absolutly horrific that a child would have been abused in such a shocking way but the journey from child to adulthood was amazing. Would recommend this to everyone
this is by far one of the most honest and truthful accounts of triumph.. of all the shocking things thaat she endured, i honestly get chills thinking about some of the cruel and evil things her father did... i remember absolutly hating him through this.
i would advise this book is not for the faint hearted and would recommend this book only if you have an interest in, as many of the scenes depicted are quite horrifying (i got chills and still do)... in saying that i appreciated them for how hones...more

In my opinion, this book was simply fantastic. I was gripped from start to finish and, literally, couldn't put it down. I found that the subjects were portrayed in a sensitive and emotive way. The book allowed me to grow a great relationship with the main character and what she was going through, even though I could not necessarily imagine myself in the same position. The book makes great progress and carries a steady pace, taking us through different times and experiences of the main character....more

Lots of tears, evoked so many emotions.
Amazing and inspiring reading. It was very hard to read how much Sophie loved her father and kept seeking to return to him despite the constant abuse, but eventually she did get away and heal.
