Aunt Dimity Takes a Holiday (An Aunt Dimity Mystery #8)
When Lori Shepherd’s husband, Bill, is summoned to the reading of a will at the resplendent country estate of Earl Elstyn, Lori jumps at the chance to come along. She didn’t expect, however, to find herself entangled in a messy—and dangerous—family dispute. The aristocratic earl has called together the entire Elstyn family to disclose the beneficiaries of his fortune, and...more

Light little mystery that you can read in one sitting or less. I'd read the first Aunt Dimity a month or so back and enjoyed it, and now this one which is further down the series. It seems that missing the intermediate 7 or so didn't hurt my understanding of characters or plots much, except that Lori and Bill seemed to have gained a pair of 3 year old twin boys. That's how life is, though sometimes -- going from the blush of a proposal to the toddler years in the blink of an eye.

The Aunt Dimity books are pure unadulterated sweet and comfortable pleasure reads, and this installment was no different.
When Lori's friend Emma shocks her by revealing that Emma's master carpenter husband, Derek has just confessed to being the heir to a title and the country estate that goes with it, Lori's as stunned as Emma was.
Emma begs Lori to come along to the "family reunion" which is really a command performance designed to convince Derek to take on the responsibility of running the esta...more

Threatening notes and family drama take precedence when Lori and Bill stay at Derek's family estate for a week.
We finally get the lowdown on Derek's background. It's far-fetched that the family's extremely high social standing might have escaped Emma's notice over the years - after all, Nell and Peter have spent plenty of time with their grandad. But that may be my strongest complaint when evaluating Aunt Dimity Takes a Holiday.

Lori Shepherd solves mysteries with the help of a ghost writer, literally, the eponymous and deceased Aunt Dimity. In this story, Aunt Dimity Goes on Holiday, Lori and her husband spend a few days at the country estate of Lord Elstyn; it is revealed that a friend happens to be the earl’s estranged son. Someone is sending poison pen letters to the earl’s nephew and then accidents start happening. The biggest surprise, for me, is that neither Lori or Aunt Dimity are the ones to solve the mystery....more
Aunt Dimity really can't take a holiday. She always finds something to do. All the characters we've come to love take part in this one. (Not necessarily the villagers.) It turns out that Derek really isn't Derek but a man with aristocratic roots. Emma is furious that Derek never told her his real name or about the family dispute. Derek and other family members have been called back to the family estate to settle some unknown manner. It turns out that Bill is actually Derek's Dad's lawyer, and kn...more
I have quickly grown to love Aunt Dimity and all of the other characters in these cozy mysteries. I truly have to thank Net Galley and Penguin for allowing me to read the newest Aunt Dimity book because I have been hooked since then.
One aspect that I can appreciate with these mysteries is even though I have only read two, and totally not in order, I don't feel lost. The characters overlap and yeah, sure, it'd be nice to have grown with them, I don't feel as though I'm stumbling around.

Next in the Aunt Dimity series, Lori Shepherd and her husband Bill, the lawyer, are trying to help a wealthy family sort out inheritances, while someone mysterious is trying to make the decision through murder. Funny, sweet and clever, I like this series very much, but again wish the author didn't find a need to keep putting temptation in the way of the married Lori (to which she almost falls, in every book). However, she doesn't fall, and I guess we're to take comfort in that. Some very funny l...more
Lori finds out that her friend Emma's husband is really the heir to a large estate and a title and they have been summoned to the stately home by Derek's estranged father. Bill as the family's lawyer is also summoned and Lori and Aunt Dimity to along for a holiday. However, when there they find out that a member off the household has been getting poison pen letters and threats. Lori and Aunt Dimity try to find the culprit before real harm is done and family truths come to light.

This is one of the better of this series that I’ve read. Atherton tends to have a formula, and sometimes that formula is too much about our heroine, Lori Shepherd. She’s at her best when she’s helping others and not going on about the perils of being married and attracted to whatever good looking male is next to her. I do love how not only are we treated to a good mystery, but we get descriptions of what each character is wearing.
I loved this book!
It was different than the other novels in this series, but it was great.
I enjoy every Aunt Dimity novel, and normally I like the novels which have stories from life during the war in it more, but this time was different. There were many mysteries which Lori had to solve, and the characters were great. The plot was good, too, even if it was a plot which was already "there" in the world of books and movies. I really enjoyed reading it.

This is the only Aunt Dimity book I have given less than a 5. The story is excellent but the ending with the explanation seems quite rushed. It seemed like the author ran out of time and had to finish before she finished the fleshing out the story. Still an excellent read as are all the aunt dimity books.

A bit of fun in the Cotswolds and Wiltshire - starting at the Cotswold Farm Park - with good old family complications and no one being exactly what they seem...
This was the second Aunt Dimity novel I've read, and found it to be a light, entertaining story. I like how Lori plunges into these little mysteries and receives divine guidance from from the spirit of Aunt Dimity in her blank journal. I like bumbling along with her as she tries to figure out who done it.
Great book! This #8 in the Aunt Dimity series and another winner with a great mystery to solve and an interesting cast of characters. Fast pace, endearing characters and plenty of action made this book an enjoyable and quick read. I like how the author reveals more about the people in the story as they work to solve the mystery so even on the 8th book, I discovered new things about the characters. I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series and would definitely recommend them i...more
A fun and silly mystery. A good and easy read. Keeps interesting, and I like the writing style. The idea of Aunt Dimity herself though is just the height of silliness. I can laugh at it, but the entire premise of a journal from beyond the grave is just dumb. A good book for the beach or when you're sick and don't want anything serious.

Nancy Atherton is not a white-haired Englishwoman with a softly wrinkled face, a wry smile, and wise gray eyes, nor does she live in a thatched cottage behind a babbling brook in a tranquil, rural corner of the Cotswolds.
She has never taken tea with a vicar (although she drank an Orange Squash with one once) and she doesn't plan to continue writing after her allotted time on earth (though such pla...more
