What would you do with a second chance at life?

It took me a while to get into this book but certainly I was engrossed by the middle. If it doesn't grab you right away, I'd suggest you stick with it.

On the surface Cloud Nine is a book about loss - loss of loved ones, loss of past, loss of connections. But it's more about the connections of the characters than the losses they've experienced. The connections between each other and the connections between each of them and their past. They've all suffered some loss (haven't we all?) a...more

This book made me put it down and just sob. What a heart touching story and a must read. One of my favorite Louanne Rice books.

"Thirty-seven-year-old Sarah Talbot's lengthy battle with cancer forced her to put life on hold. But a clean bill of health has given her a second chance and she's not about to take anything for granted. Intent on living life to the fullest, Sarah reopens her bedding shop, aptly named Cloud 9, and plans a trip to Elk Island, a tiny island off the coast of Maine, where her unfeeling father and runaway son wait. Family reconciliation has long been her heart's desire, and Sarah knows that now ...more

This is the kind of book that my friends and I affectionately refer to as a "suicide book" - i.e. really sad. It might be an awful term to use when describing something...but this one definitely fits the bill.

I started reading this book several months ago, and for some reason I put it down. I only picked it up again the other day because I really wanted to finish it, even though I was pretty sure of what was going to happen to the main characters. I sobbed vehemetly for the...more

I liked this story; I did not love this story.

I know that with women's fiction it's easy to get the ball rolling quickly because women want to read about the whirlwind romance. This book moved way to fast for me in that department. It was another easy read but it didn't stick with me. In fact, I found myself putting it down when I was approaching the end because I knew what was coming and didn't want it to happen.

This wasn't one for me that I'd rush out to tell someone a...more

I don't know that this deserves a 5 star rating, but it was definitely the right book at the right time for me. I fell in love with Susan/September/Secret/Snow/Sarah. Also, the portrayal of being a mother and wanting her son to find the right path really hit home for me. The need for people to say good bye still brings tears to my eyes. I think this is a book that is perfect when you need a good cry.

This book was a great read, a real dose of reality for those who have never lost a love one to a disease...........great characters, love lost, love found, the Heroine reminds me of a dear friend who recently passed away at the same age of the same disease. But my friend left her son, a little boy ...............a must read, yes it's a bit sad, but it will give you strenght and understanding.

What's with the books about dying????!!!!! My kids were bugging me to watch a movie and I had to hold up my book and say "Just a minute--I have about 80 more pages of this lady dying"! Seems like all of the "grown up" books I've ventured into lately have had a main (or close to main) character die. Back to happy YA novels for me...

I enjoyed this book and the characters. I appreciated that each character was so touched by this one person, Sarah, and how she loved life and the surrounding beauty. The characters or story line were not complex, but it was a story full of feeling and meaning.

This book took me a bit to finish it. While most of her books hook me right in the beginning this one kept losing me. I finally made myself sit down and finish it and was glad I did. Luanne wrapped it up nicely in the end.

Luanne Rice's books are better when she adds hard situations. This one has a main character battling cancer. I find her books which only deal with romance/relationships rather dull.

I cried with this one.

This book got me hooked on Luanne Rice.
It was the first book I ever checked out from the library in my first year of high school.
I connected with the story and the characters right away.
Unforgettable!

I liked the book very much, alot of reality life like. Makes you realize how family is so important even though we know it's books like this one that make you stop and acknowledge them.....

I read this book during a time I needed hope and inspiration, and this book inspired me to believe in the hope there is always another life, another chapter, another love, bonded moments with family, whether it be forever or after they die, true love never dies and real family ties are never broken. All of this, I found inside the plot, the story in Cloud 9. My first Luanne Rice novel to read, then I have devoured many, many more. She is a must definite must-read author at some point in your jou...more

This was an extremely tough book to read. I wasn't aware or prepared for the content but by the time I realized it, I was too far in to stop reading.
Luanne Rice is such a wonderful author and I'm hugely disappointed that others are becoming less enthralled with her latest books. I haven't read probably her latest two or three and now I'm hesitant to read them. I'll finish reading what i have here before I get to her newest ones.

A fantastic book. A beautiful story of love and courage. I cried so hard. Definitely not a "happily ever after" story. I will keep this book and read it again one day.
Jami
this one is a tear-jerker, but it is a great story. Luanne Rice can really bring you into the characters she writes and make you feel what they do. **sniff sniff**

Luanne Rice is a great author. Really enjoy her books. This is very nice story. Hard to read the words through all the tears. Sarah was such a brave woman.

Not bad, as contemporary romance novels go. I actually like the main characters, and inclusion of an alternative healing practitioner at the end.
Julie
I read the Reader's Digest condensed version, so it may have edited out some scenes. This was a sweet, heart-wrenching story that made me cry.
Jina
This is an incredibly touching book. I bawled at the end of it. She is a great author that tells poignant tales that touch your heart.

A super easy read. Luanne really makes your feel like you're part of the story.I really enjoyed this book, and would recommend it!

This book makes you instantly attached to the characters as if you have known them your entire life. You will feel everything they feel.

Borrowed this from a co-worker and when she gave it to me she said "it doesn't end right". I totally agree - good book, hard to put down.

YECH! Sappy, trite dialogue plus flat, emotionless characters plus stereotypes galore equals CLOUD NINE. I couldn't get through this one. It felt too much like a "bodice-buster" paperback romance. Advice to all: AVOID LUANNE RICE.
J.T. Whitesell
Very lifetime movie-ish. It's predictable and sad like expected. Reads quickly and pulls at every emotion. Not my usual cup of tea but I would recomend it to anyone who prefers watching lifetime over fox any day.
Gina
Oh my word, I cried for the entire second half of this book. It was sad and wonderful all rolled up together. Exhausting though!
