I'm still diggin' Alexandra Ivy's Guardians of Eternity series and "Darkness Revealed" is book four. This series is about smoking hot vampires, sexy werewolves, powerful goddesses, wily fairies, snarky gargoyles, and most anything else that goes 'bump in the night'. While these stories are every bit as hot as many others available, for me this author keeps the tone lighter. There's still action, mystery, and suspense--but the sense of looming evil isn't there...and I enjoy that for a change!

While these stories are every bit as hot as many others available, for me this author keeps the tone lighter. There's still action, mystery, and suspense--but the sense of looming evil isn't there...and I enjoy that for a change!

Cezar met an incredible woman two hundred years ago, but the price he paid for that night was imprisonment to the Commission of Oracles. For one unforgettable encounter, he's had to live like a eunuch and serve as their lapdog for all these long, lonely years. Now, he's been turned loose with a specific mission--to act as her protector. To keep her safe while she fulfills her destinies. And no matter how strong their attraction is, no matter how close they grow, he knows he will eventually lose her.

Anna blamed Cezar for changing her life two hundred years ago. He took her innocence, turned her into some kind of creature that doesn't die, and was gone before she woke. She returned home to find her only family, an aunt and cousin, dead in a house fire and her life in danger. So when Cezar surfaces again, Anna has plans for him. She will capture him and force him to tell her exactly what she is. And surely she's exaggerated her weakness for him over the years, right?

I liked Anna. She didn't panic, she didn't do stupid things, she just buckled down and did what she needed to do (including Cezar!). But Cezar? Oh baby, I want one of those. He fought his connection yes...but once he knew what Anna meant to him, it was ALL about her. Both of these characters had to learn to compromise and lean on each other and admit to their feelings. Remembering makes me smile even now.

The contemporary setting is perfect for this story which is more of a romantic urban fantasy. The lead and secondary characters stay true to their natures throughout and readers even get a glimpse of the next book's hero! Ivy can write some steamy love scenes, but emotion still rules the day. "Darkness Unleashed" is up next in December of 2009 and it's already on my 'buy' list.(less)

This series continues to be one I like... but not enthusiastically. Dont get me wrong- it's got some great characters and perhaps that is why I continue reading. (You can plot your book like Plotty Plotterton but if you dont write engaging characters I care about? You've lost me.)

In Darkness Revealed we have a couple who have a history- which is what initially drew me in to the story, a Vampire hero and a heroine once again unaware of the incredible magic that lies within her.

Gimme a break, the Spanish Cezar has been around for 500-some years and all the Spanish he uses is five words???

While it is fairly obvious what Anna's fate will be, Ivy does a reasonable job of stretching it out before she lays it on the line. Part of that is due to the sexual tension she is creating between Anna and Ceza...more

Im vierten Buch durften die berühmten Charakterzüge der Hauptprotagonisten natürlich nicht fehlen und somit nimmt Anna Randal den neuen Platz ein, während sie sich nach einem spanischen Vampir sehnt...

Es ist London, 1814. Anna Randal ist gemeinsam mit ihrer Cousine Morgana auf einem Ball. Sie soll ein Auge auf Morgana haben, damit sie sich nicht mit irgendeinem dahergelaufenen Schurken einlässt und somit die Familienehre beschmutzt. Doch Annas Aufmerksamkeit ist nicht gerade bei ihrer Cousine. Der Mann, namens Conde Cezar ist viel interessanter... Als sie ihre Cousine nicht mehr findet und auch Cezar sich kurze zeit später erhebt, glaubt sie nicht an einen Zufall und geht ihm nach, mit der Befürchtung ihn und ihre Cousine in einer peinlichen Situation zu erwischen. Doch alles kommt ganz anders. Morgana ist nicht bei ihm und Cezar ist hungrig. Mit wilder Leidenschaft nimmt er Anna in Beschlag und lässt sie ihn nie wieder vergessen. Als sie aufwacht, ist er weg. Und mit ihm einige Antworten...

Zu Beginn der Geschichte ereignet sich alles sehr schnell und ich hatte meine Schwierigkeiten mich reinzufinden. Anna lebt seit über zweihundert Jahren und sie hat absolut keine Ahnung warum sie nicht altert. Woran sie sich jedoch sehr gut erinnert, ist der Biss von Cezar vor zweihundert Jahren. Irgendetwas scheint er mit ihr gemacht zu haben und sie will endlich Antworten haben! Als sie ihn in Chicago findet, durchlebt sie wieder dieses intensive Gefühl, was ihr schon bei ihrer ersten Begegnung die Luft zum Atmen nahm, aber davon will sie nicht beirren lassen. Sie ist seit Ewigkeiten Anwältin und so schnell wimmelt sie keiner ab! Als sie ihn dann endlich stellt, bekommt sie ihre heißersehnten Antworten immer noch nicht. Nur die Gewissheit, dass er ein Vampir ist, sie selbst aber glücklicherweise nicht von ihm verwandelt wurde.
Als ein magisches Feuer vor ihrer Zimmertür ausbricht, retten sich die Beiden aus dem Fenster. Anna ist immer ratloser, aber Cezars Verdacht bestätigt sich: Irgendjemand jagt Anna und will ihren Tod. Und er selbst wurde vor zweihundert Jahren dazu auserkoren sie zu beschützen. Nur er kennt ihre Bestimmung in der Dämonenwelt...

"Im Bann der Nacht" hat mich jetzt nicht wirklich in seinen Bann gezogen... Die Geschichte war trotz der anderen Handlung einfach zu vertraut, die Eigenarten schienen von Charakter zu Charakter vererbt worden zu sein und diesmal gelang es mir einfach nicht Cezar und Anna als alleinstehende Personen zu sehen, dafür hatten sie zu viel von Viper, Styx und Shay und Darcy.
Es ist sehr schade, denn Ivy's Schreibstil ist klasse, der Humor toll und die Geschichten gut durchdacht, aber wenn man ein Problem mit dem Charakter hat, beeinflusst es alles. Ich konnte dieses vierte Buch nicht so problemlos flüssig lesen, wie die drei Bände zuvor.

Außer bei den Hauptcharakteren, ist die Charakterpallette diesmal auch wieder gut bestückt, sogar besser als bisher. Die bösartige Elfenkönigin Morgana le Fay übertrifft es an Sadismus und Perversität, was ich je gelesen habe. Und der Fürstenkobold Troy ist ein Charakter, den man trotz seiner Bestimmung irgendwie mögen muss.
Und absolut nicht zu vergessen: Levet! Der neunzig Centimeter große französische Gargyle, der an Charme und Witz in jeder Charakterliste führt, gehört einfach in diese Serie, wie meine Finger an meine Hand gehören. Umso trauriger, dass er diesmal eindeutig zu wenig vorkam. Zwar noch genug um über ihn zu lachen und ihn zu lieben, aber da ich einfach nicht genug kriegen kann von ihm, war es mir einfach zu wenig.

Vielleicht hatte ich mir wirklich mehr von diesem Buch erhofft, aber ich bleibe der Serie treu, denn allein Levet ist es wert sie zu lesen. ^^(less)

This whole series is just wicked good! And as a general rule, I don't like vampire novels but this series just keeps me coming back.

This book was filled with action, smoking hot vampires (still love Styx more than any of them) and drama.

The love story here is so good. Cezar is assigned by the Oracle to protect Anna and has been imprisoned for close to 200 years and during that time, he is celibite which is really hard for a vampire since they are such sensuous and sexual creatures. I would have liked to have known more what happened while he was imprisoned. The story alluded to some sort of mistreatment and torture not that I thrive on that sort of thing but he was afraid of the Oracle and not just because they're the equivalent of the United States supreme court. I wanted to know what had happened to him during his incarceration with them. Was he really even incarcerated or what? He didn't fear anything and had been in many battles through the centuries so what did they do to him that scared him into submission like that?

Anna was really fun to rad about. She had a sense of humor and she was fearless and dangerous because she didn't know how to control her powers and the fearlessness mixed with her lack of control really made her dangerous and everybody knew it but she did love Cezar and he accepted that part of her. It got okay at the end.

I didn't like what the end result was for Morgana. She really was a cruel and vicious character and I wish her outcome had been different. But it is what it is and it's okay.

I do wish the women in these last two books weren't such, I don't know how to say it. They're supposed to be demons and twice now (once with Darcy and now with Anna. I can't remember the endings of the other two books right off), they don't "take care" of the opposition. Unless there's some sort of thing coming up in future books for their adversaries to reappear, there wwas no need for them not to kill their enemies. It's the law of the jungle here. Kill or be killed. We're talking demons here but Darcy and Anna seem to be demons with hearts. It's okay but I wish it were a little different.

It's always good to see Dante, Viper and Styx, though. Styx is still my favorite. :) Oh and Levet, too. Gotta love Levet. (less)

Cezars Anziehung zu der unschuldigen Anna war gleich da und explosiv. Er kannte Leidenschaft, aber nichts hat ihn auf seine Gefühle für Anna vorbereitet. Aber diese Leidenschaft kam mit einem hohen Preis, zwei Jahrhunderte von Cezars Leben verbrachte er als Gefangener der Kommission. Aber auch nach all diesen Jahren konnte Cezar Anna nicht vergessen. Und als sich ihre Wege erneut kreuzen findet sich Cezar wieder einmal magisch von Anna angezogen.

Cezars Job ist es, dafür zu sorgen, dass Anna in Sicherheit ist, so dass sie ihr Schicksal erfüllen kann, dass sie als Orakel erwartet. Selbst als die Situation außer Kontrolle gerät, als Anna von Morgana le Fay, einer der stärksten Kreaturen in der magischen Welt gejagt wird, können Anna und Cezar ihrer starken Anziehung zueinander nicht bekämpfen. Aber selbst wenn sie in der Lage sind ihre Feinde zu überleben, wartet das Schicksal sie erneut zu trennen…

Um ehrlich zu sein habe ich nicht wirklich viel von diesem Buch erwartet, vermutlich weil ich keinen der beiden Hauptcharaktere kannte. Im Endeffekt habe ich es dann aber doch genossen dieses Buch zu lesen, da mir Anna sehr gut gefallen hat. Sie war erschrocken von ihren Kräften, die sie weder versteht noch kontrollieren kann, aber sie war weder schwach noch schüchtern. Die Jahre, die Anna und Cezar getrennt voneinander verbracht haben, waren schwierig für beide, und sie haben ein glückliches Ende verdient. Man sieht einige Hauptcharaktere von den früheren Büchern erneut, was mir immer Freude bereitet. Und man trifft einen neuen dunklen Charakter, Jagr. Er scheint der böseste von ihnen allen zu sein und ich freue mich schon sehr darauf, im nächsten Buch mehr über ihn zu erfahren.(less)

Hmm, this one was different, having not known Conde Cezar or Anna Randal in previous books, but I loved it none the less.

Oh man. It just keeps better and better. Just when I thought I was over vampires and their sexiness here comes Cezar in all his 500 year old HOT Spanish regalia.

Anna and Cezar's story was very light for me. Not in a bad way but in a good way. There's obviously drama since someone wanted Anna dead but their relationship seemed genuine. Maybe its because they go way back? Possibly. But when they reunited it seems as thought years haven't passed since they last saw each other.

Just finished reading the book. Very good and quite interesting.

I wished Morgana would be given a brief history and her dramatic ascend to power.

A vampire in celibate for 200 years and still no extra information is given what they had done if he violate the rules. How he remain in celibacy. And if the Oracle wanted something, just summon him by giving terrible headache. Duh.

No mentioned of the mighty Goddess actions, Shalott prowess nor of Darcy's temper. Seems like, its the male that dominate...more

This is a really fun series...this book is/was no exception. I enjoyed the feisty Anna and FINALLY got over my sense of Cezar being 'foppish' because of his slender hands. Didn't care much for the Spanish phrasing on occasion...not an issue w/ Spanish, it just seems affected instead of real. The introduction of the Oracles was fun. Ms Ivy has a nice style of writing that is easy to read; her characters are interesting and whimsical (e.g., Levet). I'll never go to Chicago again without knowing wh...more

Another great entry in the Guardians of Eternity series. It has the requisite hot vampire [Mr. Tall, Dark and Dead:] and beautiful heroine with a Destiny [she's a compassionate lawyer, ummm, believing in vampires might be easier...:] The villain is Morgana le Fay, King Arthur has a couple of cameos, Levet makes occasional snarky appearances while various other characters from previous novels appear in supporting roles. Good read.

Cezar is noble and has been searching for this one woman for nearly 200 years. His reason is for protection but once he sets his eyes on her again, all the lust is there and he sole purpose is to make her his.

Anna has been searching for 200 years for the vampire that stole her heart and took her blood for answers. She is a lawyer for the people, a voice when one has none, but has come into powers that she can't explain.

I keep waiting for this series to just wow me but so far it hasn't. It was a decent enough book that kept my attention but it just didn't give me the emotional roller coaster that I love so much in romance novels. This is an interesting series though where they seem to fall for each other early on in the book and then the story is about the life threatening dangers. For some reason, I didn't expect much from this book. Perhaps because it was about two characters we had never met in the series before, I don't know. But I went into this one sort of...bland. Turns out I shouldn't have been.

In Darkness Revealed, we meet Anna and Cezar. Two hundred years before, they had one passionate night together, and then Cezar disappeared. That left Anna alone, scared, and not quite sure exactly what she was. With powers she hated and could barely control, she managed to survive on her own. But she never forgot the arrogant "man" she spent the night with, and blamed him for making her the freak she felt she was.

Cezar's attraction to the innocent Anna was instant and explosive. As a Vampire, he had known passion, but nothing prepared him for his feelings for Anna. But that passion came with a price - two centuries of Cezar's life spent as a prisoner of the Collective. Even after all of those years, Cezar has never been able to get Anna out of his system or off his mind. And when their paths cross again, Cezar once again finds himself captivated by Anna.

Cezar's job is to keep Anna safe, so she can fulfill the role fate has demanded she assume. Even as the situation quickly spirals out of control, with Anna being hunted by one of the most powerful creatures in the supernatural world, Anna and Cezar find themselves helpless to resist their powerful attraction to each other. But even if they can survive their enemies, fate is still waiting to separate them in the end.

I enjoyed this one. It was another great entry in the Guardians of Eternity series, and I completely fell in love with Cezar. Anna was also a great character...scared of her powers, but by no means weak or timid. The years they spent apart were hard on both of them, and they definitely earned their happily ever afters. We get to see the heroes from all of the previous books back in action, which I always enjoy, and we meet a dark and tortured new character, Jagr. In a series filled with commanding, powerful men, Jagr seems to be the baddest of them all. I thought this was a very good book, and now I can't wait for Jagr's turn.(less)

The thought of 200 years of celibacy for any male does make you wonder what exactly happened for that kind of torture. Cezar not only has to battle his instincts to make Anna his mate, he has to fight to keep her alive. As much as I love the thought of a male having to protect whats his, it gets overrated every now and then. The sweet innocent female incapable of harming another is cliche. **Spoiler**I know it took me forever to finish this book and that might appear to mean that I didn't enjoy it, but that is not true, I actually enjoyed this book, but I got caught up reading 50 other books in between so it kind of got lost in the shuffle! This was a nice read to me, I think I like the fact that, in this series, usually by the end of the book, you will know which character the next book will be about. Ainsi, après une incursion dans l'univers des garou lors du tome précédent, nous découvrons ici les êtres liés à la magie ! en effet, sidhes, faies mais aussi élementales font leur entrée dans cet univers.

Cezar yang so sweet mencintai Anna selama 195 tahun jadi nilai tambah di buku ini, kesetiaanya luar biasa, juga Anna yg hidup selibat selama hampir 2 abad, membuat kisah seram pembuhuhan dan pertarungan jadi di permanis dengan kisah cinta mereka. Hhhh...andaikan, di dunia ini masih ada model cinta seperti yang dimiliki Anna dan Cezar........
