I LOVE LYNN KURLAND!!! I just got this book today and I finished it in a marathon 3.5 hour sitting. It was amazing and for Kurland fans, it will be well worth the expense.[return]Patrick MacLeod is 35 and at a point in his life where love means something to him, but women don't. His normal, cheerful demeanor was shattered after his first wife, Lisa, dies and so does the baby she was carrying. Since then, he's been hounded by his former father-in-law, Gideon (who hates him, to put it mildly), and...more
Oh no! I'm going against the crowd!!! Maybe I should blame this on the Baby Bump / Placenta Brain. Perhaps I'm having a harder time trying to find books that can keep my attention.
Let me say, I thought this was a beautiful story. I really struggled over what rating to give it, but found that I had to stick to my guns and go with the two. Sorry!!!
I felt the book dragged quite a bit to do so much inner dialog in the beginning and end. The middle of the book was 4 stars! I was flying through it,...more

finally an author who can write historical romantic fiction and not get graphic and smutty while doing so! If you like scottish highland stories or old english lords and ladies, then this is a great author to look up. She also does some time traveling, as in this book, however she has a website that categorizes her books if you prefer no time traveling. I have read a couple of her books now, as recommended to me by my sister, and I have to say, I am happy to read her clean romantic stories!

A clean, wonderful time travel romance. Thank you to Lynn Kurland for not putting in all the slutty, filthy love scenes and creating a story that takes the heart and mind away into a wonderful world. ..accept the bad guys, of course...they are so irritating..lol..I love Lynn Kurland. I'm on a hunt for her books. I want them all and beg her to keep writing. I'm always on the search for good time travel romance books and I'm so glad I've found Lynn Kurland's books.

This was an unusual time travel romance, at least I've not read anything like it before. I enjoyed this book, although I thought it dragged a little towards the end.
The two main characters had great chemistry right from the start and I really liked Patrick, the Scottish Highland time traveller. Madelyn was a strong woman who held up under very tough circumstances. Her ex fiancee Bentley I wanted to reach into the story and strangle him, he was one of the most annoying characters I've had to plea...more

Recommends it for:
anyone who wants a clean romance
I liked this book. It's been awhile since I've read a romance novel that wasn't from an LDS author. There were a couple of parts that were a little cheesy, but despite that the author kept me interested. I loved this book for the mere fact that it was clean. What girl doesn't love a little romance, but I definitely don't need all of the details. I plan to read more from this author for this reason alone.
OH I think this is my favorite one...Mmmm!
Lynn Kurland is my one of my favorite romance authors and she did not let me down with this book either. This is in the same tradition of romance and humor that she laces all her books. Once again she has a normal girl easy to relate to, who is in the middle of her anything that could go wrong has gone wrong circumstances. But here comes her reluctant Knight in shining armour or black jeans in this case. The book has it's time travel portions as well as...more

A Garden in the Rain appealed to my reading interest. Why?
*Likable characters - Patrick and Madelyn were very likable.
* Highlander intrigue - I can thank my favorite series, Outlander, for the interest I have in highlander stuff
* Time-travel, love stories that have to do with time-travel. Especially when the story is written well like the Outlander books and the The Time-Traveler's Wife.

This remains one of my all time favorite reads. If I need a good pick me up, or want to just have fun on a rainy day, I reach for this book. I think the author did a great job of creating two wonderful characters and helping us to understand the chemistry and relationship between the two. So many times you read a love story and say "I don't get it"? "What do they see in each other"? Not the case here! Lynn Kurland weaves her best story in a "Garden in the Rain". Madelyn Phillips goes off to Scot...more
Romance and time travel, two of my favorite genres in one book - clean too! What's not to like. Madelyn Phillips goes on a trip to Scottland to regroup after her fiance dumps her six weeks before the wedding. The ex-fiance follows making life miserable for Madelyn, stealing her reservations, luggage, rental car, etc. Patrick MacLeod has been in the future for nine years now but is just now adjusting to the death of his wife.
Lots of fun plot twists, ghosts, and medieval sword fighting. I really...more

In the book A Garden in the Rain, we get the story of Patrick MacLeod. In a sense, Patrick was the one who started the whole MacLeod time traveling thing. If Patrick had not traveled forward in time before Elizabeth traveled back, Jamie may never have believed her whole story of the future. But since Patrick had went there, Jamie was willing to accept the mystery of the MacLeod woods. Now, in Patrick's story, we get to see what exactly it was that happened to him while he was in the future and t...more
This book was my first Kurland book and I wasn't impressed. It was a little drawn out, but that's only because the characters were completely incapable of talking about their feelings. They spend a lot of time thinking about what they should instead be talking about to each other. I understand feelings are hard to share for some people but this was to the point of ridiculousness. Plus when I read a romance novel I expect some (not a lot but at least some) "action" so to speak, but it is G-rated.
This is the first book I have read from this author. She has written many. I really liked it. It has two time period settings which made this book really unique and different. It is set in mid-evil scotland and present day. Great romance. You really fall in love with the Characters. Lots of detailed descriptions and she paints a beautiful picture in your mind of scotland. Makes me want to take a trip there. Can't wait to read more of her books.
I'm borrowing a line from another review of this book because it's a perfect description: "This is a great book for when you're in a romantic mood, but you want something that is well-written."
This story is shelved in the romance section but is not what I expect from romance books. The characters felt real, there is a interesting story line that actually gets attention (instead of constantly being focused on the romantic escapades of the main characters), and the romance is clean instead of raun...more

This book had the potential to be a favorite but it came up short on the emotional front. Extremely emotional situations such as being held captive in a cage for three weeks or having your love send you away- twice - warrent MUCH stronger sentiments than a passing statement and a smile. Without more time spent on the feelings these and other situations evoke, the author leaves the reader lacking and unfulfilled.
I loved this one! I think Lynn Kurland is a fabulous writer, and I love most of her books. There are some I like better than others, though, and I think this is right up there with my very favorites. The romance is fabulous, and there's enough conflicts with the antagonists in the story to add spice. Perfect! Her secondary character of Bentley made me both cringe and laugh. I loved it!
A truly excellent book filled with non-stop adventures. A good author is one who can get you involved in their character's lives. You know you have found a great book when you are outraged when they are outraged, sad when they are sad, happy when they are happy, etc. This book gave me all of that and much more. I really loved this book!
4 Stars...I really liked it
"Garden" is the first book I've read by this author and oh my goodness can she tell a story! The characters came to life the minute you start reading.
So now I guess your wondering why I didn't rate it 5 Stars. The one (and only) thing missing in this book is the descriptive love scenes. I'm not always wanting a "Diana Palmer" read or erotica...but if this lady can write a story like this, she could have thrown in a little spice for us romance reading lovers. After che...more

This is the third Lynn Kurland book I've read and it's by far my favorite so far, even though I totally loved the others.
Madelyn is in Scotland, enjoying her honeymoon trip after her fiancé, Bentley, calls it off 6 weeks before the wedding. But...he has regrets and follows her there, making every minute miserable. From the moment she meets Patrick, sparks fly and there is an undeniable chemistry between hem. But then she accidentally forgets to avoid the red dots in the map and ends up in a sit...more

I liked it, but I didn't feel the connection between these two, one minute he is being a douche and the next he just off and kisses her, no build up, zero romance.... And so it went, I liked the characters, and with the lack of romance, the story was good... I loved the ghost element... I just think the De Piaget men are just more romantic....

this was the first Lynn Kurland book I read...well let's put it this way I am currently now trying to read all her books. It was such and endearing story. I love reading anything about Scotland and its history. So a story about time traveling in Scotland just makes a great store to me!
another wonderful story involving patrick and madylin as she discovers on her vacation in scotland that the feisty, moody highlander she runs into happens to have more to him than she ever could have imagined. i found this to be one of my favorite stories. very realistic emotions and relationship progression.
This is the first book of Lynn Kurland's that I have read, and I really enjoyed it. It totally skipped the sex scenes, which is fine with me, but the romance was great. The time-travel aspect was well done, and I can't wait to read more in the series - just wish my library had more of them!
Cheryl talked me into this when we were having a which-is-worse contest between this, which she'd read, and the Gabaldons I read earlier this year. She says that now that she's read half of Outlander, she thinks this one has more plot and less of a formulaic 2-pages-combat/2-pages-sex/1-page-history/repeat structure. She's right, but this one goes more for the endless titillation, with only the poor protagonists still clueless about their attraction for each other. Also, Cheryl told me that this...more

Lynn began her writing career at the tender age of five with a series of illustrated novellas entitled Clinton’s Troubles in which the compelling hero found himself in all sorts of . . . well, trouble. She was living in Hawaii at the time and the scope for her imagination (poisoned fish, tropical cliffs, large spiders) was great and poor Clinton bore the brunt of it. After returning to the mainlan...more
