I didn’t think poets wrote letters anymore—attentive, old-fangled, pen-to-paper affairs that touch on current projects, poetics, job and family, political events, and sympathetic close readings of the recipient’s work. Turns out they don’t, or didn’t until editors Dana Teen Lomax and Jennifer Firestone thought to ask them to. Hmm, so a few of my letters are in this book but I'm not going to brag since I've realized I am the least accomplished writer in the book! My letters are certainly not representative of my best work but the other letters are really interesting so far.
This is an incredible book, not just about poetry but all things that concern us as writers - politics, education, communication, reading, relationships... There is so much good here. Read this.
