Susan
Beautiful, widowed young Lady Fieldhurst expects to be bored when she agrees to visit a Yorkshire estate, but the local vicar dies in a mysterious fire the first night she is there, and she sends for the Bow Street Runner who saved her life, John Pickett, to investigate. Undercover as her footman, Pickett and Lady Fieldhurst try to deny the socially-unacceptable attraction that has sprung up between them, as Pickett also tries to uncover a murderer.

The second John Pickett mystery by Sheri Cobb South is a light and pleasant mystery set in the regency period. Pickett is a Bow Street runner summoned by a Viscountess who he helped out in the first book in the series. The plotting is light but the characters sweet as they tentatively feel their way to a romance? More of a regency romance than mystery at this point in the series. But I enjoyed it for a quick read with no real commitment!

I don't like to use the word "cute" about a book, but this book is "cute." It is a cozy little mystery that managed to keep my interest from beginning to end. The almost romance between Lady Fieldhearst and John Pickett is charming and like all those ficitonal duos, I just want them to get together, but then we would not have a series.

Slightly more blush-worthy than the first as Pickett gets Ideas above his station.

I really liked the second installment of the John Pickett books (I can hope there are more to come. . . ). The mystery was easy to solve (I figured it out pretty fast), but the development of the relationship, and the interesting twists involved with that made it a fun read.

I recommend these two books to anyone who enjoy a hero who can be admired, and a fast, sweet, yet still developing romance.

this is #2 in the series; Milady's Chamber is #1

Sheri Cobb South Never disappoints. This John Pickett mystery just makes me want more. The mystery kept me guessing and the interaction between John and Julia is entertaining. This book just recently came out--this means I've a wait until the next one. Crumb!!!
