This book is gold. It is a treasure trove of late 19th century and early 20th century recipes. I love that it includes ads and articles from the day, like, "Choosing a Refrigerator" and "Why Not Hominy?" Great menu staples and some inadvertantly hilarious pieces such as the section on pickles with titles like "Common Causes of Poor Quality Pickles" and "Texture Tricks in Pickles." I love the tone, the recipes, and the layout of this cookbook.
I enjoyed this cookbook. Lots of nostalgia here! articles from the old Farmer's Wife Magazine and old pictures and some very good recipes. The pumpkin pie recipe in this book is the only one I make now. How can you not like a cookbook that has Rinktum Tiddy and Red Bunny as recipes?!
