Patricia Grace tells really down-to-earth stories in a (sometimes deceptively) simple, beautiful, way. I love this book of shorts. Te reo Māori is interspersed - which is a gift; not something that detracts from the narrative, but gives the reader a wider understanding of Aotearoa and the culture here. I particularly enjoyed reading of the teens in a small community going about their daily lives.

I love Patricia Grace's writing and descriptions. It Used to be Green Once made me laugh so hard, wonderful!

This was most definitely not textbook MFA style. I read it in a hurry because I was reading it for work, but I found I had trouble understanding a lot of the stories. Not sure if the fault is in my rush and the issue would be remedied if I read it more slowly.
