Well, my wait finally over, I found myself devouring every word and loving every minute of it!

Most of you who know me know that permanent ménage relationships in stories isn’t something I’m comfortable with because I find myself worrying about how it can possibly work out for everyone in the long run. I always wonder if all the people involved can possibly be truly happy, or if someone doesn’t eventually feel left out, or not as integral a part of the relationship and this uneasiness causes me to have a tough time buying into, or believing in, their happily ever after. Now, that said, I was surprised by how much I came to care about Chassie, Trevor and Edgard, and how badly I wanted them to find some way to be happy - together. I was relieved in the way Ms. James presented their relationship and found it to be very well written, very compelling, and the honesty in which their emotions were expressed gave me hope. There was hurt, jealousy, and guilt – all honest emotions to be expected given the uncertain situation they faced. There was compassion, love and forgiveness, also feelings you’d expect to find in any relationship, monogamous or otherwise, when people who truly love each other want to work things out. Concerns were addressed and handled maturely and with love because they knew that such a lifestyle would not be easy, but with open honesty, patience and devotion could end in true happiness.

The bottom line – my heart ached and I found myself shedding a few tears for the hurt these wonderful, caring, loving people endured. I hoped for their happily ever after and in the end, truly accepting it and believing in it. Ms James has completely won me over and this is now a “must read” series. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the McKays are up to – and with whom – and hope to revisit Chassie, Trevor and Edgard as their love for one another, and hopefully their family, grows.

Ever since book #1 Long Hard Ride I’ve been wondering what happened to Trevor and Edgard and hoping for their story. I was curious as to how these delicious cowboys could get their HEA especially in a homophobic and generally not alternative lifestyle appreciating town like Sundance Wyoming. I never counted on a wife being involved but lucky, lucky Chassie Glanzer. She gets the lovin of two damn fine men here. And talking about fine men; if you’re a fan of M/M lovin then hang onto your cowboy hats because this is all kinds-of-ways hot and sexy man lovin. Of course Chassie does participate on occasion and even though I’m not a fan of the ménage, this works for me because all the partners are involved equally. There’s also an amazing 3-way love story unfolding here, full of undeniable passion, emotion and heaps of consequences which are all explored beautifully. And Yes theres a whole lotta spicy sex going on too, in just about every conceivable position/combination and location possible. Yeehaw!

Trevor and Chassie have been happily married for one year. Trevor loves his wife and life on the ranch is good but he’s never quite been able to forget about his old roping partner and he knows that sometimes Chassie can sense his longing. Trevor never expected to see Edgard again though especially after it became clear that he couldn’t be the kind of man that Edgard needed but now his secret Brazilian lover is walking right up the dusty driveway, looking as fine and sexy as ever and hoping to sort out their tangled past.

With the kind of sparks that are flying between this pair of cowboys it doesn’t take long for Chassie to catch them together (and damn those first mergers are aggressive and scorching hot) Chassie thought she knew everything about her husbands chequered past but this is really pushing things. However before she can come to terms with the fact that Trevor and Edgard were lovers she has to face the fact that she might just be losing her man because its not just lust she see’s in their eyes its unbridled love too.

Trevor promises he won’t leave but she doesn’t want him to stay out of any sense of duty, she knows he’d be forever missing his Latin cowboy and she’d be living half a marriage. So Chassie does the only thing a girl could do in this kind of situation she asks if she can watch them together and then she joins them. Of course for this arrangement to succeed theres all kinds of issues to work out and they are slightly worried about what the townsfolk are gunna think down at the local feed store but the more time they all spend together the more passion and raw emotion comes to the surface. Trevor and Edgard finally feel complete and damn if Chassie doesn’t too. (less)

I've been wanting to reread this one since I first read it. And I think it was even better the second time around. I love this story. For me, it's the ultimate alternative erotic romance. It's one I'll definitely have on my keeper shelf for a long time.

So i have issues with permant menages!!

So for every one who likes that kinda of read, this is for you!!

I spent the whole dya reading it and i didnt hate it and i didnt Love it!!! I just thought Eh!!! Can i read the next one, cos i freaking love Colt!!

But on a good note, damn!! it was hot!! i Never ever read about man love and i was WOWed!!!

So re read it and I loved it mote this time around!! So from a three to a 4 :)

Wow. A very disturbing book. A menage book I didn’t like! This was a first, because it was well written and had nicely implemented drama. All this aside there was one thing I can never stomach when it comes to a tree way relationship-when I feel it’s a crowd.
Also, this book contained my second deal breaker for ménage fiction-the feel that somebody in a mm relationship is not gay. Or bi. Or what ever.

OMG, Trevor came from such a horrible family & upbringing that only existed in books, rich-arrogant-sexist-manipulate-mean SOB's, so mean and ruthless. Believed he was unworthy of love, irresponsible and useless to carry on his family legacy. He loved his wife with everything he had but there was a different kind of love only Edgard can fulfill.

Edgard, Trevor's roping partner and lover who walked away bc he wanted all or nothing. Little did he know, life wasn't black or white but he needed to find out once and for all was there any hope for them or was it just an illusion he held on too long.

Chassie, half-indian, cousin to the famous McKays but she was dealt with the bad card from the beginning. Taking over her poor-barely afloat-family ranch after the death of her brother and father, she's grateful to have Trevor anchor her. Realized that her brother never truly lived due to his sexual preference, Chassie refused to live closed-minded and it was this determination that not only saved her marriage but fulfilled three lives at the cross-road.

Truly an unorthodox relationship, one I could never fathom to exist, but Chassie's reponse to her husband's concern if she's happy with sharing him with Ed permanently:
"I don't mind sharing you, especially since he's brought to life the part of you that's always been missing, a part I never had in the first place. Edgard's given me a gift by letting me see all of you, not just the part you wanted me to see because you were ashamed of the rest."

...nuff said, I love this book. BTW, how distracted was I on the treadmill and reading? I ran 7 miles in 1 hr...not as fast as my kids but fastest, so far, for this 45 yr mom. So...yeah, I was pleasantly distracted.

I was a little worried upon first starting this book that it was going to hurt, but I was very wrong! The love between all three characters in this book jumped right off the page at me! I love, love , love menage stories like this, where the love is palpable and the men are as in love with each other as they are with their woman!

Lorelei James is also a new author for me. I read this book upon the recommendation of a friend during a discussion on the viability of "unconventional" relationships.

I applaud James for tackling such a delicate social issue and I think she did a respectable job. She is an excellent writer and storyteller. What I liked about the book...more More like 3-1/2 stars! I applaud James for tackling such a delicate social issue and I think she did a respectable job. She is an excellent writer and storyteller. What I liked about the book was the fact that it did tackle the menage-type "love" relationship and attempted to do it justice by showing that love knows no bounds --if people are willing to do the work necessary to make the relationship work. James attempts to show that this particular love match, between Chassie,Trevor and Edgard was not just about sex, but something deeper and lasting, like commitment and genuine affection. So the plot/storyline was good. I also liked and, importantly, cared about all three of the main characters.

However, what I did not like was the fact that Chassie did not seem an integral part of the trio/relationship. I mean, certainly through narration the author tells us that she is, but I could not "feel" it. And, while James takes great pains in the physical descriptions of both Trevor and Edgard, I hardly know what Chassie looks like. And what is often repeated is not necessarily in a positive light --- i.e., she is flat chested, mixed race and wears her hair in a braid! She is described as a person who struggles with self-esteem and a person in need of love, especially the love of her husband. In Chassie, we see a caring woman bent on doing whatever it takes to please her husband in order to keep him.

And, again, while James tells us that Trevor loves her and we get glimpses of it, it does not compare to the love we are allowed to see and experience between Trevor and Edgard. I sincerely felt the love between the two heroes, time and time again. Through her writing, I could feel the loneliness and pain they experienced while separated and the joy and love once reunited. When they were together nothing and no one else seemed to matter. I recall one scene between Trevor and Edgard, where Trevor admits that he forgot Chassie was in the room. She seemed peripheral -- too often!

So, to remedy this I would have liked to see James show the reader via dialogue and actions that Trevor (and later Edgard) really did love and value Chassie, as the happy and well-written ending so adequately suggests. And that Chassie was not just a convenient tool to ensure their continued relationship and complement their sexual appetites. It would have also been helpful to further develop the struggle the trio (especially Chassie) had in becoming a family, after learning of Trevor and Edgard's love for each other. It is often in struggle and pain that true and authentic love emerges.

Having said all this, I would still recommend the book to others who want to ponder the issue of "unconventional" relationships. James certainly had the right idea and ingredients for such a story, it just fell a little short to me. But, the book did make me think and care and will serve as a tool for discussion. Oh, and I do plan on reading more of her work.

P.S. I just finished reading book #1, Long Hard, Ride and now I am fairly convinced that Chassie cannot be an equal love partner. Given Edgard's character in book #1 it is hard to imagine him having a desire to enter in a menage-type relationship with Chassie -- unless it offered him the chance to be with Trevor.(less)

While I normally enjoy the Rough Riders series, I did not like this book. At all. Generally, I prefer my HEA to be between 2 people however I have read some very good menage HEA's that the author has really written well. Those have worked for me. This one did not.

I felt like Trevor was dishonest and a cheating bastard. If I came upon my husband kissing someone else, whether man, woman or horse, I would be PISSED. That is cheating to me. It doesn't matter what the sex. Chassie just seemed to take...more

4.5 stars. It was a really great story but almost too perfect. I was expecting a wee bit more turmoil. I mean it a relationship involving 3 people. Maybe they need a part 2. I have to say this is probably my favorite book of the series so far.

This one has most of my favorite things! Menage, hot cowboys, and good build up to the main event!If you have enjoyed the Rough Riders series thus far, trust me - you will not be disappointed.

I have to say though, I was a little surprised at how quickly Chassie forgave Treavor for his lapse in judgement and for keeping such a huge secret from her. I thought there could have been a little more struggle in that aspect...it made Chassie appear weak and insecure and I don't think she is like that a...more

This book didn't quite click for me, I think it is still a massive improvment from the first books, but for me this one seemed slightly off. It had nothing to do with the m/m aspect, I just didn't see the three of them quite clicking together as unit, it seemed more about them pleasing Trevor at the exclusion of there own happiness and that didn't quite seem right. However, I know they were all supposed to love eachother by the end but I didn't really feel that.

This is my first Lorelei James book. Though it dragged a bit at parts, it was overall an enjoyable read. I wanted to give it 3 1/2 stars but only because while I find cowboys sexy, I don't find cowgirls appealing. Chassie is sweet, generous and the perfect rancher's wife. She does everything on the ranch that a city-slicker like me will never know how to do.

Over-all I liked this book. Can you imagine your former rodeo circuit partner...aka....ex "same-sex" lover shows up at your house and surprises your wife, who does not know who he is. She welcomes him to stay. And that both thrills and frightens you.

Well this is the dilemma in this novel which is brim full of alot of emotional situations that need to be worked out.

The love between these three characters was amazing, despite all the negative complaints about Chassie etc in the end she did have control over the situation. I do not want to give out too many secrets but Chassie has suffered from low self esteem all of her life(she is Native American and Caucasion). Her father was very domineering and her brother was a rodeo cowboy but also living a secret life. After some life changing events, Trevor is there to help her through everything. He means so much to her and he loves her just the same. Trevor has also endured some hardships.One, being a cowboy in love with another cowboy and he has never really gotten over it. He has also been cast out by his family because he does not give in to his father's rules.Trevor also has a lot of back history explained.

Everything is going well and Eduardo shows up. Chassie finds out about their past and she is hurt and she feels betrayed. She starts to compare herself to this beautiful,Brazilian, cowboy that loves her husband and knows her husband loves just as much. Chassie will do anything to keep her man and even accept Eduardo into their lives.

I loved the story of Ed and Trevor in book one and was glad to see that a story was written. Eduardo has had his fair share of heartache but he came to Wyoming with the intention of getting his cowboy back. This poor girl. She sees the love between these two men. She and Ed love Trevor.

It is like she is the third wheel. Eventually everything works out but I cannot get over her pain and her acceptance. I kept getting pissed off at her husband and Ed. Everytime a scene came up with them I got pissed off. The sex scenes pissed me off. I did not find them erotic at all. I tried to look at it as a mainstream love affair but it left me irritated and again, PISSED!

Chassie is unaware that Edgard was ever more than just a friend to Trevor, and a part of Trevor struggles with the feelings that Edgard still rouses in him. Chassie agrees to let Edgard stay with her and Trevor and she ends up spending a lot of time with him and getting to know him, especially since Trevor seems agitated about Edgard’s being there. However, one day Chassie makes something of an untimely appearance coming upon Trevor and Edgard as they were kissing him. Chassie was floored, she had no idea what to say or do, and ended up leaving to clear her head and think about what she witnessed.

Chassie ends up at Channing and Colby’s house, and after speaking with Channing, she has a better idea of the way things are between the two men. With her head cleared and her determination to get things figured out, Chassie heads back home to Trevor and Edgard.

Chassie, Trevor, and Edgard begin a spicy menage relationship. They work through their troubles and come to realizations that the three of them can be happy with each other.

Rough, Raw, and Ready was a bit different from the other books in the Rough Riders series, and while I’ve never really gotten into the whole menage craze, I actually really enjoyed the book.

I got to get to know each of these characters better and it was interesting reading. Each of them has their own familial demons to overcome. Edgard deals with the death of his mother and the fact that after she passed he was essentially disowned by his survivng family because they could not accept his sexuality. Trevor faces his family and realizes that he does not need to care what they think. To hell with them, if they can’t accept the life he has chosen to live so be it. Trevor does not want to end up like his father and so he takes steps to ensure his own happiness. Chassie’s demons are in the form of accepting her fate on the ranch, she still struggles with the death of her father and brother, but she is living and doing her absolute best to keep the family business going. In addition, she overcomes her initial shock of Trevor and Edgard’s past while forging ahead to a future with both men.

As you can guess, there is quite a bit going on in this book. Separate and together, the three face their lives and come out of it for the better. There is some hot and heavy sex between the three making Rough, Raw, and Ready a steamy, sexy read. All in all, another great installment in the Rough Riders series.(less)

I read this book before the first in the series where you find out Edgard and Trevor are together. I feel even worse for Chassie after reading the first book. In all honesty I didn't really feel anything between her and Edgard, and I feel like it is almost forced to make it seem like they'll all be happy together. Let me just say that I'm not a fan of m/m or f/f ROMANCE novels. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind same sex stories, IF they're only about sex (Erotica), but I generally have a hard time enjoying same-sex romances because when I read, I can't connect with the characters in the same way as I can with m/f - I can't feel what they feel or see myself as them in my mind's eye. *shrug*

WOW, this one totally blew me away, and no one is more surprised by that than I am for several reasons.

First, I'm not a big fan of this series. Don't get me wrong. It's a good series, and the writing is good. It's just that the cowboys are a little too Alpha and redneck for me, which is why I prefer Delilah Devlin's cowboy erotica. Second, there is a lot of m/m sex in this one. And even though I LOVE m/f/m ménage novels, m/m between the guys doesn't rock my boat.

Many others have done great jobs in terms of detailing the plot, so I won't rehash all of that information, and I won't include any specific spoilers in this either, although I should warn that there may be some mentions of situations that occur in the book that could be considered to be vaguely spoiler-iffic in nature. I've read M/M/F stories before, and more often than not, the authors seem focused (both sexually and emotionally) on the men to such an extent that the female character appears t...more Many others have done great jobs in terms of detailing the plot, so I won't rehash all of that information, and I won't include any specific spoilers in this either, although I should warn that there may be some mentions of situations that occur in the book that could be considered to be vaguely spoiler-iffic in nature. I've read M/M/F stories before, and more often than not, the authors seem focused (both sexually and emotionally) on the men to such an extent that the female character appears to be superfluous, in every way, almost as though the authors really wanted to write a M/M novel, but felt pressured to include a woman in the mix to make it somehow more "mainstream" or something. The men just seem more emotionally in tune with each other, seem to derive greater satisfaction from each other, and feel guilt because once they get around each other, they even forget to devote any thought to the woman. I have to confess that, when that happens, I always feel so sorry for the female character - no one (particularly in a romance/erotic novel) should feel second best, or like a consolation prize or an after-thought, especially if the woman begins the novel believing herself to be fully and completely loved by her husband or boyfriend.

So, in terms of where all of that comes into play where this particular book is concerned, I have to say that, once Edgard entered the picture, there were definitely times when it felt like 'Rough, Raw and Ready' would fall into the category described above. James pays a lot of attention to the attraction Trevor and Ed have for one another; their past sexual relationship and feelings for one another; their current attraction, love, and even desperation to be with one another again. There is even a point at which Trevor acknowledges to himself that he feels guilt because the first time he and Ed get together again, he forgets all about his wife for awhile. So, there are several times when Chassie feels like a third wheel - and by that, I mean the character feels that way about herself and the reader will likely agree with her - and given all that she's been through, one cannot help but feel very sorry for her, and think that she deserves better.

However, and this is a very significant *however,* that doesn't hold true throughout the book, and by the time it concludes, the reader is made to feel pretty certain that all of the love, passion, tenderness, affection, and lust is shared pretty much equally by Trevor, Chassie, and Edgard - all three feel loved and accepted by each other, and that love seems genuine, from the reader's perspective. In short, then, by the end of the book, none of the characters feels left out or in anyway inferior to the other 2 in the relationship, or unnecessary in any way. Now, I won't lie and say that even near the end, there weren't times when I felt like the connection between Trevor and Ed ran a bit deeper than the connection either man had with Chassie, but by and large, I was content that the menage relationship was solid, and made all parties involved feel happy and loved.

James deserves quite a bit of praise, because it's evidently not easy for an author to write relationships involving 3 people that feel authentic and organic, and all in all, she does a very good job, in that regard. She takes great pains to delve into the thoughts and emotions of all three characters, in terms of their pasts, what the present situation means for them (and all of the insecurities, fears, doubts, and hopes entailed therein), and what their future will bring. She doesn't gloss over all of the messy emotions and problems (including having to deal with their families and the community), and she doesn't entirely tie everything up in a nice, neat bow, as the characters know that they have a lot of work ahead of them, in order to make the relationship work.

The bottom line is that there are a lot of surprisingly raw, genuine emotions explored in this book, and James has created characters that feel like real people, complete with flaws and myriad issues. And, yes, there is *a lot* of sex, in various combinations of characters, and it's all steamy - there's a great deal of passion that just about sets the pages on fire. Beyond that, there is also a lot of sensuality and deep affection, that adds still more unexpected depth to the individual relationships between Trevor and Chassie, Trevor and Edgard, and Chassie and Edgard, and also the collective relationship involving all three. This was a very good read, and one I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for a book that includes a lot of physical action that is enhanced by pure, deep emotions. (less)

Trevor has retired from the rodeo circuit where he used to be quite the wrangler of horses, women, and especially the one man who he loved above all others, Edgard Mancuso. Trevor and Edgard were roping partners who were also secret lovers. Anything sexually goes on in the bedroom, and even sometimes in the stable. Chassie still cannot believe that the handsome Trevor chose her because she always felt like an outcast because of her Indian heritage. She and Trevor are so much in love and could not ask for anything more.

Out of the blue, Edgard comes looking for Trevor. Chassie thinks Edgard is just an old friend of Trevor who is passing through. Trevor is not so thrilled to see Edgard because he now has a wife, and there is no room or justification for him and Edgard to start up again where they left off. Edgard understands this, but he rather have Trevor as a friend than nothing at all. Because Chassie wants Trevor and Edgard to catch up on old times, she welcomes Edgard to stay in their home for as long as he wants. Edgard is pleased, while Trevor is very uncomfortable about the whole situation. Soon Trevor, Chassie and Edgard are working together on the ranch and spending their free time together. Trevor is in both Heaven and Hell because he cannot deny his desire for Edgard. Trevor feels so guilty because Chassie is such the supportive wife, totally oblivious to what Trevor is going through. She comes to really like Edgard because he is such a gentleman and a great guy in general.

One day Chassie comes upon Trevor and Edgard arguing. She is in for even a bigger shock when Edgard begins to passionately kiss Trevor, and in turn, Trevor welcomes it. We’re talking major mouth, lips and tongue action here. Chassie is appalled. and Trevor is ashamed because he never wanted to hurt Chassie because he loves her so much. But Trevor also cares for Edgard. Chassie is confused because she is not sure if Trevor ever really loved her. Did he just marry her for her land and the ranch? Who does Trevor really love?

Chassie has so many questions rolling around in her head but she loves Trevor so much. When her close friend puts things into perspective, Chassie has to decide if she is willing to share Trevor with Edgard, and if she is comfortable enough to join in the bed play with these two men.

I can certainly say if you are in the mood for some steaming hot sex, Lorelei James sure does deliver here. Rough, Raw and Ready is one ménage a trios romance that I really did enjoy because she can write very incredibly passionate and emotional love scenes, especially between Trevor and Chassie. Even before Edgard was welcomed in their bed, this married couple had a great loving relationship, and everything I would want in a marriage. When Edgard came into the picture, the smoldering passion he has for Trevor is so tangible. The sexual tension between Trevor and Edgard was so thick, and excuse the cliché, a knife could cut though it.

I really felt for poor Chassie because she was clueless to what was going on between Trevor and Edgard. And I couldn’t really fault her, because what woman would think an old male friend of her husband’s could be a possible lover from his past? Her reaction to finding Trevor and Edgard kissing is very realistic and I was not surprised when she needed time away to think about the future of her marriage.

One thing that did irk me was that after Chassie calmed down, she was able to forgive Trevor, which I was fine with, but her quick acceptance at allowing Trevor and Edgard to act on their passion for one another didn’t seem to fit. Even when Chassie joins in on the fun, I was still questioning why she was so fine with everything. I was expecting a bit more time to pass before she could become accustomed to the idea of sharing her husband with another man. But, if you are able to put aside that issue, Trevor, Chassie and Edgard give the reader some great eye opening sex. Nothing is taboo between these three.

Rough, Raw and Ready is book 5 in Lorelei James’ Rough Rider series and those who are fans of her other books will certainly enjoy this latest by her. I, for one, did enjoy the read even with a few small problems I had, mainly with Chassie’s quick acceptance of Edgard. Overall, this is one HOT cowboy ménage a trios that had me reaching for a fan.

Trev is rather cold and aloof and Chass can't understand he's got this old best friend rodeo pal she's never heard of and why Trevor's being so standoffish. Can Trevor continue to deny his feelings for Edgard when the minute he stepped foot on his ranch, he wanted him with a vengeance? He loves his wife but the need he has for Ed is different and all encompassing.....
Would Chassie ever understand he's not a gay man but a man who loves Ed exclusively (apart from his wife)? Is there a way they can live together and make this situation work?

Gah! This book was hot. The sex was off the hook. The author did an excellent job with Chassie's character in her trying to understand her husband's need to be with Ed and how it didn't take from his need for her too. I don't think threesome relationships usually work long term in most books but the sequence of events and gradual caring and understanding that grew between the three was perfect. Chassie is awesome for accepting this. Her brother dying as a result of being a closet homosexual played a huge part, I believe. She just understood more than most people would in her situation....

ok so this was not my fav and it had nothing to do with the M/M situation going on I have loved Trevor from book one. To me he is a great character that happens to be in my not so favorite story. I think I had other expectations of what was going to happen so maybe that's why? Either way the story was still good.

Trevor marries Chassie out of the blue so that to me was sort of disappointing because we really dont get to see why he married her and what he loves about her. Edgar his long lost love...more

Ok the book is good, but I can't give more stars whem a author creates a charactor that is from Brazil but speaks Spanish. In Brazil we Speak PORTUGUESE, not Spanish. It is a total diferente language.

In the first book of the serie, Long Hard, Put Up Wet, I was a little annoyed when Edgard used words like "chica". In Brazil (language portuguese) we don't say chica we say menina.
