It's quite wordy and a little outdated - at least in the edition that I read. It is somewhat a little too academic in its idea, and some of its opinions do not necessarily co-incide with mine. Then again, the whole concept of the book is a little stale - and I say this as someone who does indeed review films as part of his profession. As a Film Minor, this book has by far, proved to be the best help in determining (by you) what makes a great film.

I reccomend this for film students.

Victor Perkins co-founded the film department at the University of Warwick in 1978, where he acted as a full time lecturer/senior lecturer until 2004. Although since retired, he continues to teach occasional classes and conduct research.
