A blinding snowstorm—and a homicidal maniac—traps a small party of friends in an isolated estate. Out of this decpetively simple set-up, Agatha Christie fashioned one of her most ingenious puzzlers, whic, in turn, would provide the basis for The Mousetrap, the longest-running play in history. From this classic title novella to the deliciously clever gems on its tail (solve...more

(oblique spoilers hinted at) The Mousetrap is the world's longest-running play, and every Christie fan should see it if they can. I had the privilege years ago in London, and thoroughly enjoyed it. One can be a fan of The Mousetrap with or without reading the novella upon which it is based, Three Blind Mice, but I highly recommend the novella and the other top-notch stories collected with it in this edition. They represent Christie at her best, fiendishly clever and with her beloved detectives P...more

This is my second book of short stories for the Cool Down with AC read a long this summer. So far I am really liking the short stories and stand alone novels best. This book was one of my favorites in the reading challenge so far. This book includes the play, The Mouse Trap that has been transformed into the short story Three Blind Mice in this book. The Mouse Trap is the longest running play in England. The story uses one of Christie's most famous plot devices, strangers trapped in isolation wi...more

This was my first Agatha Christie book; a fairly quick read, and I liked starting off with a book full of short stories. We just bought a stack of Agatha Christie books from the thrift store, so I'll have to keep reading.

Is this really by the same woman who wrote And Then There Were None?

The aforementioned title is the only other work of Christie's that I've read, and it was one of my favorite reads of last year, as well as all-time. So, after...more

Ever since reading And Then There Were None, I have loved Agatha Christie; and even though this only my second time reading one of her books, it was just as brilliant. The thing I have always loved about her is that, in her books, you may think you know who the guilty person is, and then you find out at the end that you were completely off base. The Three Blind Mice story was my favorite out of the short stories, but this book also introduced me to Ms. Marple- and she seems very interesting. So,...more

After my reading of "And then there were none", I thought you couldn't go wrong with anything Agatha Christie wrote. However I found this particular book very disappointing. Maybe the audience to which this book was written to were young (early elementary), then I could be more lenient.

I think 3 blind mice makes sense as a play but not as a read. Too much time was spent on useless details of the house and little on the characters/plot and then it's all over. Predicable ending at that.

"Three Blind Mice and Other Stories" by Agatha Christie are nine short stories featuring others besides elderly village spinster Miss Jane Marple and ex-comissioner of Belgian Police Hercule Poirot with mustaches "fierce" in #6, elsewhere lavish, magnificent, always larger than pencil with end curls depicted onscreen. (Much as I like David 's depiction, I'd like to see another.)

Denholm Elliot reads. I have given myself a day off from work to play catch-up at home and this is to keep me company as I change sheets and hunt down dust bunnies.

Who cut off their tails with a carving knife,
Did you ever see such a thing in your life,

Three Blind Mice (also known as The Mousetrap) is absolutely brilliant. The other tales are all quite short but lots of fun.

(One of them, The Adventure of Johnny Waverly, was a very pleasant surprise, because seeing the TV adaptation of that story in a hotel room, several years ago, was my introduction to Agatha Christie. I loved it, but didn't catch the story's title and couldn't find it afterwards, until I stumbled across it in this collection.)

A nice introduction to the world of Agatha Christie and one that would definitely lead me to read more. The only reason I've given this such a low scoring was because, to me it was such a short, quick read, that I didn't really feel a chance to connect with any characters, or in fact care very greatly what happened to them. However, I hope to now get my teeth into a heavier Christie novel with the knowledge that I ahve previously enjoyed her writing style.

This was a very suspenseful mystery that only took me a day to read. It's only about 70 pages long, but it is very good. The only thing that bugged me was at the very end, the killer had only killed 2 people, not 3 like the poem says. I really think that this is a must read mystery, take an hour or two to read it! This book has been turned into a play on Broadway and is still the longest running play.

I only read the Three Blind Mice mystery as well as some others. My favorite was totally the Three Blind Mice. That one was very well written and held me in much suspense as I progressed through the story. And I was so shocked at who the murderer was. That's how a true mystery should be written! Absolutely loved it!

Agatha Christie had somehow evaded me, but I found this old book in some stuff I picked from my mom's house, and I enjoyed it. Three Blind Mice is a mystery that will have you guessing up until the end. It is a short story, set in England's countryside (for the most part). If you like a good brain tickler, read it!

Good but not long enough. I wish I'd cared about / gotten to wonder about the characters more, it would have made the ending less of a cerebral "huh, it's that character." I'd also be interested to read or see what they did turning this source material into a hit play, especially in terms of the characters.

Agatha Crhistie is one of my favorites when I'm looking for a quick read with plots that are entirely predictable but beautifully written. Great book, interesting characters, and definitely one of those I can lounge in the sun and flip through this in a day books.
Maria
I really enjoyed the story "Three Blind Mice" it was written as if she wanted it to be a play (Mousetrap), i could totally see it being acted out! I also really like the idea of short stories. They're easier to read in one sitting! :-) The only one i wasn't so fond of was detective Quinn. He's not as much fun as the others! :-)

Enjoyed dipping in and out of these as I wanted. Didn't find that they taxed 'the little grey cells' much, but were interesting enough. Strangely, the story I least enjoyed was the title one! It was a bit predictable! But the rest were good.

This is a very short piece. Murder, Mystery and tons of snow.
It is far from being my favorite in the Agatha Christie roster but it is impossible to say it is bad.
The characters are lively and the setting is believable which is very important to me.
Jessica
Includes The Mousetrap, one of Christie's most famous stories (and a long-running theater production). Very Victorian, and some nice stories with Miss Marple, who may not rise to Poirot levels but enjoyable in bite size pieces like this.

Some of the stories in the collection are average, some really good. It's more like a quick series of interesting puzzles. And the title story is famous in itself for it paved the way for The Mouse Trap (which I haven't yet seen/read).
Lynn
This is the novel that was adapted into the longest running play. As always, all of the characters are subject to suspicion. The who did it was well done but the other suspicions were left unanswered as if to just say people are strange. The end.
Stephanie
The first story was a really entertaining mystery about several strangers snowbound in a guesthouse. Had I just been reading this story, I would have given the book four stars; however, I thought the other stories were just okay. I balanced it out with three stars and have decided I prefer the novels of Christie over the short stories, although I will keep reading!
Dan
Back when I was in my early 20's my mother used to send me Agatha Christie books to distract me from all of the "depressing stuff" that I was reading. Read dozens of these...so I guess it kinda worked.

This is probably Agatha Christie's best and creepiest novel. It is adapted from her play, "The Mousetrap", the longest running play of all time that is still showing in London.

Agatha Christie also wrote romance novels under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott, and was occasionally published under the name Agatha Christie Mallowan.

Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller was born in Torquay, Devon, England, U.K., as the youngest of three. The Millers had two other children: Margaret Frary Miller (1879–1950), called Madge, who was eleven years Agatha's senior, and Louis Montant Miller (1880...more
