Really enjoyed this 2nd book in the "Lucky" trilogy. The characters, the storyline, and the romance all engaged me and had me wanting to keep reading.

The basis for this series is that there is a curse on the Corwin males where if they fall in love, they will lose their woman and their money. It's affected the family for generations and now the current group of cousins must deal with it to move on with their futures.

Mike Corwin is a Boston police officer. He goes to Vegas for his partner's wedding and ends up meeting Amber Rose. They spend a day together having a lot of fun and on the spur of the moment decided to get married. Mike also ends up winning $150k from a slot machine. But when he wakes up the next morning, his money and his new wife are gone.

Amber hates herself for what she did to Mike, but she's in a boatload of trouble. So she did what she had to do. Of course, Mike isn't going to just forget about it. He has every intention of finding Amber and settling things...that is if Amber doesn't find him first.

I think one of the things I liked best about this book was that the storyline didn't go quite as I expected it would. From reading the back cover, I figured the story would involve Mike going on a search for Amber, her trying to avoid him and not telling him the truth and whatnot. But things actually go kind of the opposite. Amber tracks Mike down, apologizes, tells him mostly the truth and then insinuates herself in his life. She does everything to try to get him to forgive her and give her a chance. I just really like how the story progressed in that sense. And I liked that it was a direction I hadn't expected.

There's also a great use of family and supporting characters. The situation with Mike's father - whose life is pretty much crippled because of his worries over the curse - was interesting and I liked how Phillips used it in the book. There were some good dynamics regarding family interactions, and emotional scars resulting from the curse.

Romance-wise...Amber and Mike have some great chemistry. They can't resist each other in bed, but have a lot of trouble dealing with everything else. I thought Phillips did a great job exploring the various ups and downs of the relationship and how all the outside forces factored in. Each character has to face things they've done and things they've let rule their life before they can truly commit to each other. For me, the romance just worked really well.

I also enjoyed the little smidge of suspense thrown in with some of Amber's past coming up to bite her on the butt. It gave the story a little variety and a little bit of tension. Plus it fit the storyline well.

So overall, this was a really solid contemporary romance and another winner from Carly Phillips. Nothing about it bothered me and I pretty much enjoyed reading it cover to cover. It's sweet and sexy, has great sense of family, and a nice storyline that gives the book a sense of direction instead of being just mushy, mindless fluff. I'm really looking forward to the last book in the trilogy, which was set up in this one. Should be interesting finding out what happens with Jason Corwin.(less)

This is a really cute book with alot of fun characters. CP is always fun to read, she writes a quick and entertaining story. I gave this one a four out of five.

Boston Cop Mike Corwin is having a great vacation in Vegas celebrating his friend and partners wedding. He sees a beautiful girl that seems to be having a little trouble with a scumbag, so he steps in to offer his help. But when things are settled he asks her to party with him and his friends. Amber accepts his offer and they spend the rest of the day and night together having a great time. The attraction is strong, on a whim they get married at a chapel in one of the casinos. But on the way back to his room she encorages him to put a ten dollar chip, given to them by the justic of the peace, into a machine. Although Mike is skeptical he goes for it thinking that he isn't the lucky type. But he ends up winning $150,000.00. This can't be happening to him, he isn't the one to win anything. But it must be his lucky day because he has a new wife and the money. But when he wakes up the next morning with Amber gone and the money too, he knew it was just to good to be true, and heads back home to Boston for a trial that he has to testify in.

Amber just knows that Mike is going to be mad but he will understand that she had to take the money to get her Father back from her scumbag ex-partner. He knew just where to hit her the hardest. But she fully intends to find a way to pay Mike back, even if she has to work three jobs. Amber heads back to the hotel but when she gets there Mike has checked out of the hotel and left town.

Mike is tired. He can't beleive that he was suckered by a beautiful woman. He should have known better. But he plans to find out more about her. Before he can do anything he comes home from court to find his front door open. Sneaking upstairs to his bedroom he finds Amber in one of his shirts and nothing else. Okay, that is every man's dream. But he isn't falling for it. He want's some answers about the money and about Amber.

As the story goes on Amber is being chased by one of the men she and the ex-partner conned. She is also falling farther in love with Mike and finding that she is falling for his family too. They are quirky and weird, but she likes them anyway. And Mike comes to realize that Amber has some insights about his Father that he didn't think about before.

While trying to solve the problems that Amber has with the ex-partner and the man that she conned, Mike and amber find that they really do love each other and that their spur of the moment wedding isn't a big mistake. In fact it could be the luckiest thing that has ever happened to them. (less)

Amber - her father, Sam, was a professional gambler & when she was old enough to choose, she went to live with...more aside - Gabrielle & Derrick are having a baby (after a miscarriage)... they are support for this story and are apparently happy.

and they spend the day together with his friends, drinking, going from hotel to hotel... we learn Mike doesn't like roller coasters (his life is challenging enough)... and when she realizes her partner's goon is following them, they duck into a chapel... and when mistaken for a customer, impulsively decide to get married... and on the way to Mike's room, they stop at a slot machine, where he 'spends' a wedding token, and wins $150,000 dollars in cash... they share a passionate night... and in the morning, Amber wakes up first - and as she is making coffee she gets a call from her partner - who has taken her father from the home, and insists she come to him with the $150,000 - she does so (it is her father) and he further forces her to join him in the game he set up for that evening...

Big Bobby, Texan with connections, car dealerships, is fleeced - and her partner gets the money he needs to pay off his creditors, and she leaves with $75,000 (they had to leave a bit early)... she goes back to the room, but Mike has checked out... Mike in the meantime is shocked to wake up to an empty room - empty of both Amber & the money... he has to be at court, so he leaves with the intention of tracking her down in the future...

Amber becomes aware that Big Bobby is trying to track her, and she wants to return the money and make amends with Mike - and to give their marriage a chance... so she goes to Boston...

Mike is less than thrilled... he doesn't trust her... but he can't stay away from her - the sex is good, and bit by bit she tries to explain what happened... she doesn't confess her own part for a couple of days, but does so eventually... intellectually, Mike keeps his distance, but emotionally & sexually he is drawn to her... he places her with his crazy father, Edward, because he believes she will be safe at his isolated house with people in the habit of leaving him alone... and through her gentle observations and obvious liking of his father, he comes to see that his father is more than over the top, he might be mentally ill...

Bit by bit, her problems resolve (she has a talk with Big Bobby, who tracked her down... she has a talk with the partner, who needs a bit more to resolve, with police intervention)... and she and Mike have good bye sex, and he tells her he can't trust her and will dissolve the marriage... she sucks it up and returns to Las Vegas... and Mike quickly realizes he loves her and wants her back...

after a hiccup of his father maybe having a heartattack, but it being a panic attack, and a psychiatrist finally diagnosing him and treating him... he returns to Las Vegas, sends a text to meet him at the circus circus roller coaster - where he rides it with her as a symbol that he wants her in his life... they confess their love, they return to Boston, she gets a job a concierage, she loves his family in spite of the craziness, and they move her father to a home in Boston.

Edward and Clara - First, Edward lost his first love to his brother Thomas - which 1st set him off to be a hermit, and to be obsessed with the curse... and then Clara, a wiccan, was a love interest 9 years ago, but when he catches her on a date her father had set up for her, he refused to see her, and eventually Clara gave up trying to explain... Clara and Amber meet at Clara's wiccan store, and Clara takes her invitation as a sign that it is time to reconnect with Edward... and she handles him well...

Jason, Thomas son, is a skiing olympic hopeful, and has a minimal part in this story when he returns home to hide because of a steroid scandal - because he trusted the wrong woman... and they left his story up in the air - obviously, book 3 in the making...

Lucky Steak is Carly Phillips’ second book in the Corwin Curse series and I found it to be a cute story with lots of fun characters. Not only did I enjoy Amber and Mike, but Mike’s family is loads of fun and the bad guys chasing Amber add some extra excitement.

The storyline is very believable and will probably hit close to the heart for many readers. Amber is a con only because she desperately needs to pay for her father’s nursing home and care. Mike is afraid of true love because his experience...more

So much better than the first book! This book centers around Mike Corwin, son of Edward, the eccentric brother. Mike became a cop to keep order in his life that he never had with his "out there" father. Mike meets Amber Rose while in Vegas for his partner's wedding. It is instant attraction and it all begins.

Here's what I liked:

I loved the chemistry between the Mike and Amber...there is plenty of work up to it and it works. It is night and day between them and Derek and Gabrielle in the first book. I figured out why I disliked the first book so much while reading this one--on the top of that list was the characters. Derek and Gabrielle made appearances in this book and I found myself wanting them to leave...they annoyed me (mostly Gabrielle--she is way too shallow). Mike and Amber were better characters with more depth. I wanted to like them and I wanted them to be happy--that is a good thing.

The relationship between Mike and Amber was more "real." They went through a "get-to-know-you" phase and worked on finding out if they really could make it work.

The "suspense" part of the book was small, but good--it played well into the storyline. It wasn't over the top and it kept the plot developing.

Also, there was plenty of closure for the family in this one. I felt like the last book flopped at the end. This one not nearly as much (although it did a bit).

Here is what I didn't like:

I did find that that last chapter of the book has me skimming--to much detail about nothing. She got up, took a shower, brushed her hair, made breakfast, blah, blah...how does that add to the story?

The ending is a little anti-climactic, but it was okay. Similar to the first book where it just seems to fizzle a little at the end.

The medical reasoning at the end of the book seemed a little off to me. I think some details were left out--some things were mentioned, but a clear diagnosis wasn't told. It left me a little unsettled.

The neutral:

This book also set up the last book in the series. Jason, the third Corwin cousin, is introduced at great length and his story is set up I'm sure to get excitement for the last book in the series. I'm looking forward to it, but I don't need it the day it is released. Since this book was an improvement on the first, I'm hoping the last will be even better.

Overall opinion:
Liked it! Glad I stuck with the series after I disliked the first one. Carly Phillips really is better than Lucky Charm and Lucky Streak proves it.(less)

I finished this book a few days back and I still don't really know what to think. I think I'm going with: Yeah .... NO!

This was one of the books when I should've stopped reading when my "eye rolling" didn't stop. Gist is: Girl (Amber) living in Las Vegas meets Cop (Mike) from Boston who's in town for his friend's wedding, they win big time and get married - AND THEY'RE NOT EVEN DRUNK! Next morning she's gone and so is the money. But Amber follows him to Boston to make this marriage work.

FANTASTIC little chic flic romance story! ALL 3 of these books were highly enjoyable. Every character had me LMAO!
However, I will say that Lucky Streak (#2) was absolutely the funniest of them all. Hands down!
PS....I really wish Uncle Edward and Clara had their own story, even if it was a short story in an Anthology because that man had me in stitches....stinky Pete! Bawaaaaaaahahahahaha!

Well if you are looking for a fluffy, no drama, no thinking kind of book then 'Lucky Streak' is the one for you!

This is the second part of the trilogy "Lucky' series written by Carly Phillips. Mike Corwin (Boston Police Detective) goes to Las Vegas for his Partner's Wedding and runs into Amber Rose - a gorgeous woman who he knows very little about after only one night.

I loved Mike and Amber. I thought this book had more substance, emotion and fast-paced. Amber's tenatious attitude got her things she needed and more. On the day she ended her partnership crossing the law, she married a cop!

I liked this one much better than the first. I loved that Mike and Amber were impulsive in Vegas, and that what happened in Vegas, didn't stay there. Amber's crazy past and present had the potential to really screw up things for them. While it did a little bit, it was Mike's crazy family that brought them together. I loved Mike's dad, Edward. He was so eccentric and out there it was hard not to like them. The gathering at the end so fit the extended family and had me laughing.

Carly Phillips is an amazing writer. I cannot help buy fall in love with her characters and Mike and Amanda were no different. I understood why Amanda made the decisions she did, and I understood why Mike reacted the way he did. I was pulled in to the story from the beginning. I love that Derek and Gabrielle were back in the story, as well as the curse. Cute, fun read.

would have been better if I was reading this in book form, but I was listening out loud. Some parts dragged on way too long and you know what I mean. WAY TOO LONG. I have an imagination. This was too descriptive and I usually like Carly Phillips, so I think I just won't get her books in audio formats from now on. :)

I enjoyed this continuation of the Cowin Curse series. Amber Rose is a very different heroine dealing with some unique inlaws in wonderfully wacky ways. Who ever would have thought of using a descented skunk as a weapon? Romantic and amusing. I look forward to the next book.

Another fun read. This one has more mystery and danger elements to it so I read this book fast. I just had to know how it was going to end. I will say when you do reach the climax for the mystery and drama it's pretty low key. Overall just a great fun book to read.

I really enjoyed hearing about previous characters from the first book. Amber and Mike are a great pair and she is a nice touch to the "crazy cursed" family! I guess the saying what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas is not true in this case and I am glad.

This was an audiobook, so it took me longer to get through it than if I'd actually read it. I love the Corwin family stories, even though I haven't exactly read them in order. The men are are as interesting as the women they end up with.

Once again there was tons of focus on the curse thing but I really liked the story between the two main characters. They have such different backgrounds but they are made for each other even though they have a hard time of it.

This is the second in a series. I liked the first one better I think. This one was just a little to "Vegas" for me. After having lived there, survived it -- barely, two times, anything Vegas-like leaves me cold.

That was a nice book... Again, light reading.

I just can't but adore Las Vegas stories! I don't know why, but they make me look down and say, "Aw!! Drunken romance!!!" I'm weird, I know!
