I'd probably recommend this to someone in high school. It's pretty juvenile, but it's cute. I may read the sequel. Nice if you want a cute obvious romance where you don't have to think too much.

Lauren “Laurie” Holbrook is a chocolate eating, coffee addict with a knack for matchmaking. After she successfully matches her older sister, Laurie goes on a mission to matchmake everyone else too, starting with people at her work. Laurie works at a photography studio run by her best-friend-since-forever, Brandon. Brandon is a more serious person, a great balance for Laurie’s wacky, mile-a-minute self. The camaraderie between the two is fun, the prime brother/sister relatio...more

love funny people and let me tell you, author Erynn Mangum is a funny person. I really enjoyed reading her book Miss Match because I could not stop laughing.

After reading and enjoying Erynn Mangum's Maya Davis Series, I picked up Miss Match from her first series. Although it had many similarities, I did not care for this book as much as the others. However, Miss Match is Erynn's first novel, and I think she has improved over time.
In Miss Match, Lauren Holbrook thinks she has found her life's calling- matchmaking her single friends. Problem is, now that all her friends are turning into couples, what will become of Lauren? In an effort to avoid gettin...more

*Review of the Series as a Whole (Not very spoilery though)*
I completely adored this series. This is Contemporary Christian fiction at it’s best. Funny, relatable, inspirational, romantic, and HILARIOUS.
Lauren (Laurie, Laur, Nutsy, etc.) Holbrook loves to play matchmaker. She obsesses over getting couples together, and thinks it’s her special gift. Throughout the series, she puts together a few couples, tries to tear apart others, and overall loves watching all her schemes work out.

Typical Christian chick-lit. At worst, a rip off of material better written by Jane Austen, at best, pedantic and stilting, this is not a recommendation of mine.
Lauren's character reads more like a 14-year-old than a woman in her mid-twenties. Her (possibly autobiographical for the author?) upbringing and lack of any sort of ambition and lackadaisical approach to adulthood make her irritating and her complete cluelessness about real life make her unbelievable. Also, I don't know any young Chris...more

Miss Match is quite hilarious. I like a good story about romantic mischief and coffee… and chocolate… a definite winner in my books! lol Miss Match is a bit of a coming of age as you watch Laren mature from a goofy girl to a little more mature goofy girl – realizing that when love happens it happens, even to her! As a Christian girl the attitude and the vocabulary was very much like I remember lol. She was easy to relate to and loveable. Quotes of famous books are thrown in there, like the Princ...more
Pardon me while I go raid the warehouse at the pharmacy in which I work for a vial of insulin and a syringe to inject myself with. Seriously, that's how sickeningly sweet the story is...and the main character is a caffeine-chocoholic, so I feel like I contracted adult-onset diabetes just by reading about her sugar consumption.
I probably should not have went from reading Fifty Shades Freed to this, because it probably amplified the sickly sweet qualities, since they are on total opposite spectrum...more

I couldn't finish this book. First, it's pretty much a contemporary Christian retelling of Emma (which is my least favorite Austen novel). I don't necessarily mind reading novels with Christian protagonists but I did feel that Christianity was beat over my head. There were constant references to Biblical verses (without any actual quotations) that flew over my head. I wasn't motivated enough to get my Bible and actually look them up. The way the novel was described on Amazon, one can easily be m...more
I knew the book was a Christian book when I picked it up to read, but I found that strangely easy to ignore. Yes, the characters constantly talked about going to Church and Bible study, and were very happy when they converted someone to Christianity. They even kept talking about God and things like his sovereignity all the time, and brought up Bible verses. The most interesting part about them bringing up the Bible verses, though, was that they didn't actually quote many of them in the book. The...more
Miss Match by Erynn Mangum was another amazing cheap Kindle purchase. The premise is that 23 year old Lauren Holbrook has discovered she has quite the knack for matchmaking, and finds herself putting together the puzzle pieces of everyone's romantic lives. It's written by a Christian author and has a lot of Scripture references in it.

First things first: Lauren is AWESOME. No question about it. She's like every girl's PMS side on steroids.
WARNING: Do NOT read this book if you are trying to lose weight. It will make you crave comfort food, desserts, and CHOCOLATE like nothing else. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Okay, I admit it. I read it because of the cover. Yes, sometimes I am just that shallow. But hey, it was another one I picked up for free, and I didn't feel like thinking, so I wanted a quick, easy read. Miss Match sounds like a cute, chick-lit book. And with that cover, it must have something to do with coffee, right?
Within seconds, it was obvious that it was a Christian chick-lit book. Okay, we'll see if it's too OTT or if it just flows with the story and doesn't bother me. So I'm reading alon...more

Maybe I'm too harsh on peers my age (was that a redundant phrase?) but the protagonist of this story has got to grow up. For being 23-years-old, she's as flighty as a girl in high school, which may explain why this book is categorized as "teen fiction". I also understand how, being the youngest of three daughters, her father may be a bit more hesitant to see his little girl get married and leave the nest, but biblically speaking-- which is relevant, since this is a book published by NavPress-- h...more
This fun upbeat story follows the life of a twenty-something single gal as she tries to match up her friends from her single's Bible study. I loved the witty dialog between the characters - it kept the pace of the story moving and was downright funny at times.

Miss Match is a Christian romance. To be honest, I really didn’t think I was going to like it, but Erynn Mangum surprised me with this absolutely amazing read!
I find Christian reads (not being religious myself) hit and miss, but the author hit this one out of the ball park! She successfully created witty banter and humorous antics that had me engaged from start to finish. Though she does mix scripture in, it’s kept simple and at times twisted into irony...more

Laurie Holbrook is the youngest of three sisters and has vowed to never get married. However that doesn't mean Laurie has sworn off love. She fancies herself a matchmaker and she will do whatever it takes to help her matches make it to the altar (READ: meddling). But what does God have in mind for Laurie? Will the matchmaker find her own love match? God only knows! ;)

Miss Match, Rematch, and Match Point follow the life of twenty-thee year old, Laurie Holbrook, a coffee addict and chocoholic. Laurie has found her calling, and it's matchmaking. Although she is content to stay single and live with her dad forever, she devises complex schemes, including using brownies and blind dates, to match up everyone else she knows. After setting up her sister, best friend, singles pastor, coffee shop owner, and a few others Laurie realizes that her family members might hav...more
I thought this book was adorable. I would have to agree that the intended audience probably could not be a married woman with kids, as the heroine would seem really immature to her. But considering that the heroine has no major responsibilities nor does she work in a highly professional environment, and is the youngest of three sisters, it's not really surprising that she is the way she is. And since I can in many ways relate to saying basically everything I'm thinking, it was enjoyable that she...more

I have seen Miss Match first on my friend's bookshelf when she got back from her trip from the USA. I have been meaning to borrow it for the longest time but I always forget to ask about it when we see each other. Then when I got my Kindle, I have been eying the book in the store, thinking if it was worth the splurge. Come Christmas, I saw it went down to less than $2 and so I finally got it for myself. I started reading it soon after I finished the creeps-inducing...more

O god this was really cute! Lauren is an awesome character who loves chocolate, match making and is christian! Not to mention that she lives on coffee! I was really mad that my librarian didn't have the other ones. Probably because I haven't asked her yet, but I will (one day). One of the reasons I really liked this book because come on who doesn't it when one girl and her friends match two people? It's actually an amazing concept!!!!! It's like the parent trap except... not. I don't know how to...more
Miss Match is a fun, fluffy book. I like the main character that Mangum created. Twenty-three year old Laurie is a self-proclaimed spinster for life who has decided to become a match-maker as the title suggests. She is quite spunky, and there are a lot of humorous moments in the book. Being 23 myself, Laurie sometimes comes off as being immature, but I think that's the point. She seems to grow a bit throughout the book, and I can only imagine that the growth will continue in the next book. I lik...more
They say that looks can be deceiving, and in the case of Erynn Mangum’s Miss Match, this is certainly true. At first glance the novel suggests a pithy chick-lit with a plot strongly oriented around romance and match-making. But perhaps the cover designer should have considered adding a jazzy little banner saying “contains real Bible extracts!” I’ve had Jehovah’s Witnesses at my door who were more subtle in spreading the word than this book is.

I'm going to be honest. It was not the description of this book, but the cover that made me want to read it. So maybe that reflects in my review, because this isn't the kind of book that I would usually want to read.
I'm going to start with the positives first, because I don't want it to seem like I hated this book; it was enjoyable, for the most part!

MISS MATCH is a hilarious, humor filled and inspiring book by Ms Erynn Mangum. Lauren Holbrook and her circle of funny friends and crazy family members makes you laugh! I had to read it several times. I must admit, the LAUREN HOLBROOK books get better with every book, i liked number three the most! But number one starts it all, and later, while reading the events of number two and three, you can certainly relate to this book and be glad you read it. I love the way this is a Christian series, yet...more
this was 336 pages of almost pure purgatory, ha ha. i do not like christian books, especially those that really preach like this one did, and it had at least one bible verse per chapter. these characters just did not seem real to me, though i know there are many who enjoy this type of reading. if the preachiness was absent, this could have been a mildly enjoyable book. it was almost too clean as well, if such a thing is possible. i mean, the pastor dithers about dating a woman in his bible study...more
I don't normally write reviews, but, for this particular book, I feel I have to. I started reading this book because all the reviews I read said it was hillarious and most gave it 4 or more stars. I felt the main character, Laurie, was a bit immature for her age. As for the writing style and overall mood of the book is just too chipper for my taste. I became annoyed with the main character, but kept reading because there were other likable characters I wanted to find out more about. I ended up n...more
Easy christian read. The scriptures that are focus of the book are a new study for me. The lead character spends too much time eating chocolate and drinking coffee and making matches. This book is slightly based on Emma by J Austin. My least favorite Jane book. Lauren is a family photographer. One of her most ironic comments is when she suggests a picture frame as a gift. Then says that gift would be as pointless as a paperweight. This type of irony is common in the book This was a free ebook. N...more
