This is a brilliant book and necessary one for anyone interested in American civil war of 1861 to 1865. I borrowed this from someone because my vacation took me to the battle site of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, to study the greatest and most important battle of the civil war between two sides (the union of the American north and the southern confederates) with vastly different conceptions of who could be an American citizen and what being an American citizen exactly meant.
