Shelly's review here pretty much captures my opinion of the book. There were lots of features of it that I just didn't find believable. It was annoying. Super annoying.

It was also published in 2000, but there was a real 1980s "bodice ripper" feel to it. Maybe it's because the hero ripped the heroine's clothing repeatedly while ravishing her. I don't know. That "taste" of the 1980s was really disappointing to me. I don't expect that in recently published romance novels.

I got halfway through but then had to stop for these three reasons:

1. Holy crap, if I see the phrase "her small breasts" or some variation thereof again I'm going to scream.

2. Kathryn is locked up in St Bartholomew's Hospital because her uncle said she was insane. As far as I know, St Bart's was not an insane asylum and was an actual working hospital for sick folk (see A Study in Scarlet, where Holmes & Watson first meet in one of the labs). Bethlem Royal Hospital, on the other hand, was "a

Historical romance is no longer my favorite genre, but I have a ton of them and I have really enjoyed Kat Martin's Against the... series so I grabbed this as an escape from the murder and mayhem I usually read. Unfortunately, it did not measure up.

Lady Kathryn Grayson has been sent to the insane asylum, St. Barts, by her evil uncle so he can control her fortune and not put up with her or her very unladylike interest in medicine. She escapes and stows away in the luggage boot of Lucien Montaine,
Had so much potential for lots of angst but conflict resolved much too easily. Hero was too nice.

De esas veces que te topas con una novela de época bien romántica.

Best romance novel I ever read. Hands down.
This was the very first book I read that got me interested in historical romance! Years later I still come back to it, there are moments that are unexpected and just when the reader thinks they know what's going on (since we've all read so many plots/books) it shifts. I've read other books by Kat Martin but nothing compares to my first love.
Wow if two people could be better matched I don't think so...but that doesn't mean they are perfect because they both have alot of baggage that once worked through makes the book pretty much amazing!
I loved the twist of how this story begins. However, it turns to prdictability in that the hero rescues her, then decides he won't love her, but ends well.
Book #2 read in 2008

This book had a different plot than all the others I read by Kat Martin. I liked it.
