This is the one true original manga/anime. For me, at least.

This is what started it all. I remember being six and running downstairs at seven o'clock on a Saturday morning to turn on Fox Kids and watch this with my sister, who must have been something like eight at the time. Now it's however many hundreds of years later, and I remain a fan. A more mature one, I'll admit, and one that understands the later themes a lot better, but still, a fan all the same.

Sailor Moon is one of those animes/manga...more

Story: Who does not love/want to be a young girl that one day out of the blue discovers you have magical powers and are going to fight the forces of evil to help the world? I know I certainly did! Serena, a somewhat whiny and dim witted girl is able to transform herself into Sailor Moon and along with the help of her friends is able to fight Queen Beryl and the rest of the goons. She also sparks up a love interest with Darien, a much older and smarter guy who seems miles out of her league! There...more

One of Tokyopop first big translation jobs that was defintly geared towards young adults in the language use department but still I neat read for any even remotly interested in reading the story of the ever popular heroine Sailor Moon/ Usagi (Serena to all you daytime dubbed cartoon watchers).

While not one of the best or brightest classic girls shojo mangas out there the ditzy Usagi and her fellow sailor scouts and love interest Tuxedo Mask (aka Darien Shields to American audiences, or Mamour (?...more

My review is for the series as a whole. I gave the series five stars. This is not because it's perfectly executed. It's not. The plot moves very fast and some characters aren't well fleshed out. But to me, the strong aspects outweigh the flaws. This series is about ordinary girls who rise to meet a challenge. It has an emphasis on feelings and relationships, which become a source of strength that can be used to overcome problems - including space aliens trying to take over your planet. I would c...more

Sailor Moon adalah judul komik pertama yang saya baca dan yang paling bertanggung jawab atas proses fast-forward kedewasaan pemikiran saya. LOL. Ada yang bisa menebak usia saat saya membaca volume 1 Sailor Moon? 5 tahun. Yes, people, freaking. FIVE. years old reading a story for teens. Imagine the trauma! LOL.

Tapi saya dulu ingat sangat menyukai komik ini. Bukan karena ceritanya, tapi karena itu pertama kalinya saya membaca komik dan karena ma...more

description

Sailor Moon without a doubt made most of my childhood sparkle. I remember dressing up as Usagi for Halloween one time and praying Tuxedo Mask would swoop in at the dead of night to sweep me off my feet. I also remember acting out the transformation sequences with all of the merchandise I was able purchase with my measly allowance. Everything was just so colourful and magic; more than anything I wanted to be a Sailor Scout or Sailor Senshi (and that topped wanting to be a mermaid/powerpuff girl w...more

It is no secret that this title is a genre defining one in it's own right, both inside and outside of Japan. Many will remember waking up in the 90's to watch the Sailor Moon anime show that would air, a moment from childhood for many fans that they still remember. But the manga series is where it all began.

This is one of my favourite manga series, and remains so even today. Takeuchi creates a lovely story that teaches about friendship, loyalty, strength and never giving in. She creates a group...more

This is one the most defining mangas in history. In Japan it forever changed the mahou shoujo (magical girl) genre and became enormously popular, and in the West this was one of the first mangas ever professionally translated and distributed. For many who grew up in the 90s (including me) there is a fond nostalgia associated with it. However, I hope to not let that deter an honest review with the recent rereading I've done of the series.

Characters:
Except for Usagi (and, early on the series, Mam...more

ENJOYMENT SECTION: 8/10
Ah, good ol’ pretty sailor warriors! Despite being the series most other mahou shoujo copied thereafter, it remains in the tops because very few managed to have its variety and vividness. Plus, I like it too.

ART SECTION: 7/10 [Bishoujos in Sailor Suits.]

Following the trend, the artwork is extremely shoujo, that means very breezy sketches and loose borders between frames. It looks very amateurish in the first part but along the way it improves considerably and towards the...more

OMG. IT'S SAILOR MOON!!!
I've watched this since I was 6 or something!! Always pronouncing this las 'Scellamoon'.... No wonder previous searches for this manga & anime failed. As I rewatched this all I could think of most of the time was strangling Usagi (Bunny?!!!!) Tsukino (Moon.) since they are one of those characters types that I despise. Always so FUCKING NICE. CANT YOU BITCH SLAP FOR ONCE?!! and getting riled up by simple comments. wanting to cry doesn change anything. Apply a little...more

I remember being in elementary school and watching SAILOR MOON while my mom practically dragged me into the car to take me to school (it came on literally RIGHT as we had to leave. How cruel is that?). I remember being obsessed with the idea of being a magical-girl who could save the world and do it in style, and Darian. Oh, Darian. You put the hair-pulling, booger-flicking guys in my classes to shame.

The manga is actually a lot darker than the TV show. The monsters look very grotesque, there's...more

Ah, Sailor Moon.. Just thinking about it has a smile creeping across my face. Nostalgic or what? (:

When I was very much younger, I adored the show - I had the dolls (even Tuxedo Mask, complete with rose), the sceptre (Moon, Prism, Power! Cheesy, I know), and a costume. Yep, I was pretty much obsessed.
So, I find it weird that something like 12 years later I had nearly no recollection of it at all. It was only during a late night phone convo with my BF in which we were discussing fave cartoons tha...more

I watched Sailor Moon right when I returned from Hungary to live in the post-war Bosnia. We didn't have electricity so my father would start up the electricity generator so that sis and I could watch Sailor Moon. I've seen the German, dubbed version and I think they did a great job. Sailor Moon was called Bunny and it sounds OK to me even now, so many years later.
Apart from teaching me right from wrong, it was a really well done anime perfectly suitable for little girls: romance, friendship, fi...more

The first volume of the Sailor Moon manga introduces you to Bunny, a 14-year old junior high student who actually turns out to be a powerful soldier, or Sailor Scout, whose mission it is to protect the area around her from evil creatures/demons. The first book also introduces you to several other scouts, as well as Tuxedo Mask (her mysterious, masked protector and romantic interest), and sets up the plot for the next several books.

Being a rabid Sailor Moon fan for most of my life, I of course en...more

When I was in 7th and 8th grade, I saw the cartoon on TV and picked up the manga soon afterwards. It has love, drama, destiny, and magic -perfect for young girls.

As an adult, I can really appreciate that this is a series with strong female characters that provide good role models for girls. These aren't people whose sole ambition is to make the perfect bento for their boyfriend. They are independent and powerful in their own right (Darien/Mamoru holds his own and provides initial guidance, sure,...more

This was my first experience with manga and I have to say, I found it difficult. The story is fairly simple, a middle school school finds a talking cat, Luna, that tells her she has been chosen as a "guardian" and has magic powers, turning into Sailor Moon when evil needs to be defeated. Each chapter brings a new ally, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars and Sailor Jupiter. I did not find the plot compelling and found myself quickly bored with the book. The style of the book I also found difficult as it...more

I lived and breathed Sailor Moon when I was younger. I just recently discovered my entire Sailor Moon manga collection, and I just had to reread them. Even though they re-released them with a newer English translation, these will always be my babies. Some of them went through hell and back, but that is only because I took them with me wherever I went.

There are so many tiny details that I obsess over in each book. For starters, I love how Bunny has glasses when she transforms. When I first saw i...more

Sailor Moon was the first comic series I ever collected. The comics brought me a lot of joy back then and still do. I feel like I owe any artistic skill to them. I traced until I no longer needed to. I am proud to still be collecting; I own every comic I've listed on this site. Sailor Moon is definitely closest to my heart.

Review by taylor93:
Bunny is a lazy 14 year old student who gets a surprise when her new stray cat starts talking and tells her she is actually Sailor moon. She fights crime and must find a special crystal that will protect some princess. Along the way, 3 of her new friends turn into Sailor crime fighters too, with different powers.

really didn’t like the art work in this manga, maybe because it was a little older and it seemed to be busy with too many details. Also I thought Bunny’s relationship...more

For the first time America was introduced to Sailor Moon, this wasn't too bad. However the horrible thing about this and all the other books that followed in the 2000 editions of this manga were that they chose to use the names as they appeared in the horrible dubbed version of the anime. They tried to rectify this by giving the main character the nickname 'Bunny'. (Which is a translation of her true Japanese name)
The work itself is wonderful. I praise Takeuchi-san, but the translator left somet...more

A classic manga, Takeuchi delivers stunning art work and beautiful characters. Bunny(name changes to Usa in later American editions and the original Japanese edition) is a fuzzy brained, boy obsessed, video playing Japanese middleschool student who is thrust into the role of superhero when a fussy cat pops into her life and tells her she is the champion of love and justice, Sailor Moon.

Fight along side Sailor Moon against the many evil monsters from the many enemies of Earth and the Moon Kingdom...more

In the first volume of this magical girl series we all know and love as Sailor Moon, Usagi, Ami, Rei and Makoto awaken to their powers and begin their search for the Princess of the Moon and the Legendary Silver Crystal. In the midst of their ventures, Sailor Moon is falling in love with an older boy named Tuxedo Mask who is also after the Legendary Silver Crystal, but is he an ally or an enemy?

Honestly, I never understood why this series was so very popular. Perhaps because it consists of every...more

Alright, so I finally decided to sit down and do a review for the first Sailor Moon manga. Why? Because Sailor Moon will always, ALWAYS, hold a special place in my heart.

Plucking it off my shelf, I blew some dust off its well worn cover and settled down with a cup of tea to read it again after work the other night.

It's probably been 6 years since I've touched this manga. I first found this gem on a Goodwill shelf when I was in 3rd grade, and remembering I watched it when I little, I begged my m...more

Late for school, tripped by a delirious cat, and failing MATH; this is the complicated life of teenager Usagi. The mysterious cat leads her to become a Champion of Justice in a sailor suit, thus `Sailor Moon` is born. She is given the mission to find the `legendary silver crystal` and the moon princess. As the graphic novel progresses, her `Sailor` team grows and her friends Sailor Mercury, Mars, and Jupiter join her in her fight to conquer the `Dark Kingdom`. Not only are these girls fighting e...more

I got all 11 Sailor Moon books in the mail on the 14th, and when i was finally able get around to reading them, I devowered them. I loved every moment of every single book. It was just as good, if not better than the anime. Though, everytime I saw "In the name of the moon, you're punished," I read it as "On behalf of the moon, I will punish you!" Ah, good ol' Sailor Moon! Plus, the theme song is one of my all time favorite theme songs. Now, if they could coordinate playing the theme song when yo...more

Like so many young girls, Sailor Moon was my very first exposure to Manga and Anime, and I loved it! I remember desperately wanting to be a Sailor Scout when I grew up, and my younger sister even dressed up as Sailor Moon for Bookweek on year. I found this manga in one of my favorite bookstores in Dubbo; it has both new and used books. It was the old familiar storylines from the anime I love and remember, but I enjoyed seeing them in still form. I will always love Sailor Moon, and this book is a...more

I used to watch the television series when I was younger and continued to do so watching the later arcs, the most memorable being the Heart Snatchers arc and the one that came after. However I haven't seen the arcs between the first arc and the Heart Snatchers but eventually I try to find the time. Sailor Moon is nostalgic to me as to a great deal many others to old and new fans alike. Quite recently a roommate of mine watched the whole series to completion and enjoyed it a great deal.

People on this site seem to have a real love/hate relationship with Sailor Moon.

Personally, I've always been a fan. I watched the DIC dubbed anime when I was a kid, a few years ago I picked up the English subbed one to experience it in a new manner, and now that I am introducing to my 6 year old daughter, I picked up a few volumes of the manga. For nostalgia purposes. The art is beautiful, the story is as fun as I remembered, and the characters are loveable. It's a great fast read.
