While I enjoyed this book I didn't find it as interesting as the first one. It had some amazing parts where I found myself sighing like a 15-year old and then some others where I thought: ARE YOU SERIOUS?

IMHO the problem with this installment was that it lacked everything I loved about book one. I'd give this 4.5 stars if I could. Although it took me a while to finish this book because of outside factors, I thought it was pretty awesome. My one complaint is I think the ending was a bit rushed. This might be the hottest book that I have read by GS so far. The love scenes were pretty steamy. One thing I liked is that Gray has a very large POV in this story. It's really cool to see a romance from the guy's perspective. And I feel that his viewpoint read pretty authentic for a guy. As typical for GS, there was an aura of sweetness and good-naturedness to this story. It is difficult to describe, but in the books I've read by Ms. Showalter with the exception of Awaken Me Darkly there seems to be this upbeat tone. Now that doesn't mean that bad things don't happen and people don't die in this book or her others. But you get the impression that in the end, everything will work out and good will prevail. I must say I like that about her books. Life can seem pretty dark and hopeless. It's nice to read a book with an overall tone of optimism. I love my angsty, dark romances, but it's also nice to read some that are on the upbeat side as well.

The mythology in this story is pretty interesting. It borrows from Greek myths, but there are some extra things added. I have never thought of vampires as being a large aspect of the Greek mythology, and I believe the Formorians are from ancient Celtic mythology. Thus I feel that there is a potpourri of folklore used to develop Showalter's Atlantis universe. As always, I am a folklore/mythology geek, so I enjoyed seeing the mythological creatures that populated this story.

It was also nice to revisit Darius and his bride Grace, and see the intriguing Layel (can't wait to read his story). Those demons are just gross and don't sound the least bit attractive to me.

I really did like Jewel. She was a sweet person but also formidable in her own way. She had been in love with Gray from afar for many years, seeing him in visions in her mind. I thought it was sad that she had seen the profusion of women he'd been with in her mind in excruciating detail, but she didn't let that bother her, but took her opportunity to be with him the capacity available to her. I appreciated her love for others, and how she often tried to sacrifice her well-being to help others. She had a rough existence, but in a way that is rather different from other romance heroines.

I must say that this is a great book to read if you are a fan of the paranormal genre. It's not dark and intense in the way that a lot of the popular series right now are. But it's very good and fun, but has depth that will fill your hours until the last word has been read.(less)

This book is easily one of my favorites. I think the story is very unique. I'm an aspiring writer, and one of my strongest desires is to be able to come up with an idea as astounding as the thought process Showalter put together for Jewel of Atlantis.

I read this book because I was curious about the series and liked the first one enough that I wanted to read more of the series.

Grayson (or Gray) was the hero of this story and while he's supposed to be human he always seems like a little bit more which kind of bothered me. It isn't that I disliked him but I felt it would have just been easier if he were part something from Atlantis. But I'm not the author. I'm also not into the more demanding and gruff males. Gray haven't had luck in Atlantis, vampires and demons can smell his human scent and try to kill him all the time, meanwhile, he doesn't have any clue about how the Jewel of Dunamis looks like or where it is. Suddenly, a woman's voice starts to speak in his head. She says that if Gray rescues her from her captor, she will help him find his goal. What Gray doesn't know is that the powerful Jewel of Dunamis is actually Jewel, a woman, and far different from a stone.

Jewel has spent her whole live being kidnapped by people who wish to use her powers. She can see the future and read minds, helping her previous captors fight his enemies. The only joy in her life is the visions she's had about Gray. She's seen he grow up, his family, his lovers... E now finally they find each other, and Jewel has to hide her biggest secret from him.

I thought this book was better than the first one, Heart of the Dragon, but I'm still not very excited about the series. Until now, it's my least favorite of Gena Showalter. I think her writing has improved since then, considering I loved all of the Lords of the Underworld books and really liked the books from Alien Huntress series. I think both Atlantis books I've read so far lack of important details in certain scenes and I think both endings were too fast.

However, I liked the book. I love the fact that they have these visions about each other’s lives, like they were meant to be together. I loved Jewel very much, she reminded me of Olivia from Darkest Passion, one of my favorites characters of Gena. She is innocent and at the same time bold, fights for what she wants and doesn't stand back, even so she spent her whole life going from one prison to another. I loved the nicknames Gray called her according to the way she acted. A beautiful couple, they matched a lot. I couldn't stop reading their scenes together, they were funny and also very deep, they made the book worth the read.

"This is for you," he said.
"Me?" Her eyes grew wide and watery, and her lips trembled as he slid the band up her arm. "You bought it for me in the city? Why?"
"Because you wanted it," he rushed out, "and I knew it would look lovely on you." He reached up and swept her hair off her shoulders, then anchored the gold band in place. It gleamed bright, the sapphire as enchanting as her eyes. "And because you are the love of my life."

He is there on a mission for the organization he works for that is a top secret group that deals with Otherworldly issues. He has been sent to retrieve the powerful Dunamis jewel that can be a threat when the wrong person owns it. If he can't retrieve it then he is to destroy it. Gray rescues the girl whom he has dubbed jewel from the demons and vampires, but not without a price. He has been bitten by both and their blood poisons him. Jewel helps once again to keep him from death, but he will never be the same. And not just because he lives with both demon and vampire blood flowing through him. Gray fights his attraction to Jewel disappointing them both. He thinks its because she's too great a temptation and he knows eventually that he must leave her.

Meanwhile, Gray and Jewel are being pursued by everyone, but in particular by the Demon Queen who wants Jewel back. The queen wishes to use her to gain access to the portal and take control of the human world. She forms an alliance with the secretive Vampire king, Layel, who has his own reasons for joining forces with the queen. He doesn't care about getting Jewel or the portals; he wants to destroy the dragon king, Darius, and his dragons for revenge.

Much of the story is about Gray and Jewel's mad race of escape through Atlantis, but also Jewel's quest to gain answers about herself. All the while, their relationship deepens and Jewel worries of what will happen when she tells Gray the truth about who and what she is. The net grows tighter and their time together grows shorter. Win or lose against the demons and vamps, Jewel will lose Gray.

As in the first book, the world building was out of sight wonderful. It was even further detailed in this one. I love the plot too. It is thrilling with the chase and action, but as always with the romance there is this feeling that the more the h/h succeed, the faster they get to the point where they will lose each other.

The characters, Gray and Jewel were as endearing as Darius and Grace. I grow even more intrigued by Layel and now his friend the Nymph King. It was wonderful to get some times with Darius, Grace and the other dragons.

My only issue was that things rushed at the end and I had a few lingering questions about Gray's new abilities and how that would work out for him. I also felt the organization Gray worked for was a bit shadowy too.

But all in all, it was a really good read and I am excited to get to the next installment. (less)

I liked this book better than Heart of the Dragon (book 1). I think this is because book 1 of a series always has to set the stage (so to speak) and gets bogged down in extraneous details.

The mystery of Atlantis has always fascinated me and even though this series puts a different spin on the legend, I still loved it and read it in only 3 hours.

Luckily once we're properly introduced to Jewel, things get going with a firecracker under them. Gena is a master of sexual tension. Things got so hot, the pages were about to burn up in my hands. I'm glad it's not summer here or a cold shower would have been needed!

Gray is such a cocky, self-assured male that I almost instantly fell in love with him. Jewel is so damaged yet strong that I only wanted the best for her. So yeah, I felt connected to the characters. It was a perfect case of woman tames man. There's heaps of obstacles getting in the way of their feelings and I actually groaned at the people who interrupted them expressing their desires. Gray is so human in the way he denies his attachment to Jewel and how bit by bit he concedes that he just may not have any choice in the matter. I also loved that Darius and Grace (from Heart of the Dragon) get some decent page time towards the end. And judging by the next book's name, we are briefly introduced to the star of it.

The other thing that irked me was the slight repetition in how that characters feelings were described. Some sentences could easily be omitted or re-phrased to cut this out. The end was so sweet, I was grinning from ear to ear. They deserved their happiness. I'm eager to continue this series, with The Nymph King coming up next. From the way the Nymphs are described, this may just be the hottest title in the series yet! These books are made for Paranormal Romance lovers. Give them a miss if you can't handle things hot n' steamy, but I for one will be back with bells on.

Jewel of Atlantis is the first book that I have read in Showalter's Atlantis series, and I really enjoyed it. This book proved to be very hard to put down. I started it thinking I would just read for a bit, and I just couldn't stop. Wow...loved this one! Even more than the last. I totally fell in love with both of these characters and wish the story hadn't come to an end. The story is fast paced and exciting and I loved the passion between these two.

Gray is a human OBI agent searching for the Jewel of Dunamis. The jewel has immense powers and in the wrong hands it's a very powerful weapon. When he finds it, Gray intends to either hand it over to his employers or destroy it.

Jewel of Atlantis is a good addition to the Atlantis series.

Gray is hot, hot, HOT (!) and Jewel is a strong heroine, even if she doesn't realize it. The action was just about non-stop (unfortunately for our main characters who probably could have used a break) and it was great to have glimpses of other Atlantis characters from previous books. Darius? Layel? Yum.

And while I really liked the beginning and how the story unfolded, I found the ending a bit rushed and anti-climatic.

I loved this, couldn't put it down. I didn't even want to go to work cos I wanted to finish it; I took the book with me everywhere, and read it at any opportunity (ain't I sad)! I especially liked that instead of the guy chasing the girl, which is most often the case in these romance novels, that this is more the girl chasing the guy - makes for something a bit different!

To the point, saya sebelumnya gak pernah baca novel yang sevulgar ini -.-’.. Biasanya di novel novel lain, cukup hanya beberapa halaman, atau langsung dipotong prosesnya. Sedangkan di buku dengan ketebalan 300an halaman ini, dari awal sampe akhir isinya teteeeeep aja.. rasanya gak ada yang jadi fokus lain selain ketertarikan fisik antara Gray – Jewel. I’m so annoyed I have to give this 4.5 stars and not 5! The very last scene is just not worthy of 5 no matter how much the rest of the book is worth. The final scene is the pinnacle and this one, although a perfect ending, was not well presented. Arg!

This was quite a cute story aside from the horrible life of the heroine prior to the hero’s entrance. Jewel/Pru/Blaze and other hilarious names is the very much coveted Jewel of Dunamis, one of the most powerful entities in Atlantis. Grayson Jame...more

I started liking Grayson and Jewel but towards the middle I just kept sighing and rolling my eyes. Did they really had to bring up Grayson's millions of lovers and the fact that he liked sex? Geesh, it was like you read about their survival and suddenly the author randomly mentions his past sex life. Ugh. I didn't really understand the ending. Jewel defeats the bad guy and he just leaves her. . . Just like that? No tears or heart wrenching moments or even a believable internal figh...more
