Winnicott's ideas are scattered through numerous clinical papers and popular expositions. He made only one attempt to write an overview of his ideas, and this is it. As he says in the introduction, 'I intend to make a statement of human nature which gathers together the various types of experience which have been mine.'

Le livre met en place beaucoup d'idées intéressantes, mais dans presque tous les chapitres à part un ou deux elles sont seulement esquissées et il est donc difficile de se faire une idée construite sans exemple clinique, mais c'est un livre très intéressant, probablement pas la meilleure introduction au travail de Winnicott.
