Recommends it for:
chick lit fans looking for a fast, heartwarming Christmas read
For a book that was approximately 200 pages, the plot was surprisingly complex. And by complex, what I actually mean is coincidentally complex, because by the end, everyone and everything was neatly tied up with a Christmas bow and a heaping helping of Christmas magic.
Now, let’s try a game. How many Christmas clichés can you count?

So this book could have been so much better. I just felt like the author (whom I do love) left out the heart in this book....it was almost there at times but the characters still left me flat. Maybe it was just me? This book was turned into a Hallmark movie so maybe my expectations were too high but the relationships felt forced
and unrealistic (and that's from someone who enjoys fantasy, especially in love). And by the end I was bothered by how it was all wrapped up. No full answers to wha...more

This is a story about a father and his son around Christmas time. The Byrne family travels from Nova Scotia, Canada to New York City each December so their father can sell Christmas trees from their tree farm. Mr. Byrne's son doesn't want to follow in his father's footsteps like his father wants him to; to take over the tree farm. Instead of talking about what he does want, he runs away in New York. The story also involved the life of Catherine Tierney who is a widow of three years and can't let...more
There is just something about this semester that has me craving brain candy and sweet-and-sappy stories. This is obviously not going to become the next literary classic, but if you're looking for a story to get yourself in the holiday mood, I recommend giving Luanne Rice a try.
This is one of the rare (and I mean very rare) occasions where I've seen the movie before reading the book. I actually had no idea that this book existed until I had watched the Hallmark movie adaptation. I like...more

This was the second Christmas book that I got from the library to read this holiday season. I really liked it and it truly added to my spirit for the season. It was about family, trials, the magic and spirit of Christmas. All the things you want to read in a Christmas story. I finished it today, on Christmas, which made it all the more quaint and appropriate. This book will definitely add to anyone's Christmas spirit. I really enjoyed this book.
Christy is a single father to two teens, who makes a living growing Christmas trees in Nova Scotia and then selling them every December in NYC. Catherine is a librarian in NYC still greiving for her husband and hoping to catch glimpses of his ghost. Their seperate tragedies bring them together in a super-corny but romantic, Christmas-y way. It was engaging and kept me interested from start to finish, and it was definitely sappy :o)
Christy and his son and daughter came to New York city every year from Canada to sell his truckload of Christmas trees. It was very hard this year for Christy because his son, Danny, had run away last year to spend time in the city. When Christy and his daughter came back the next year, magic and miracles began to happen. Catherine, a widow, was there to pick up the pieces and help make Christmas a joyful day. This book was a great holiday read.
This was another beach read. It was predicable, but easy and fun to read. I wanted to mix together two happy things--the beach and Christmas. This was a Christmas romance. I like to read Luanne Rice for a quick pick-me-up. There was a New York City landscape, concrete angels and bells, Christmas trees from Nova Scotia and a ghostly husband. A bit of magic.

Christmas story of a librarian and a Christmas tree salesman and his family. Lots of sadness due to loss of spouses, conflict between father and his children, and human confusion. Miracles and holiday good cheer lead to a happy ending. Good escapism.
Family traditions, love and feelings are brought forward. The reader is drawn into the emotional turmoil of wishing and hoping for Dad to return safely and successfully and also for the family members to come together and accept the future.
I read this book because I enjoy the author's writing style. The story takes place right before Christmas. I enjoyed this story. The characters were true-to-life. I look forward to reading other books written by this author.
Thinly drawn characters, melodrama, improbably events...but for all that, it was diverting. I enjoyed the descriptions of New York's historical architecture, and the plot held my attention. It was a quick, light read.
It is perfect christmas'book. You take this book, you prepare a good hot chocolat , you select your favorite chair, and you are ready to read a beautiful story about love, familly issue and a beautiful end
I hate to be so critical of another holiday book, but I was not impressed with this. First, it seemed like the author took old-fashioned characters and put them in a modern setting. It also bothered me that the guy's name was Christopher, but he went by Christy. Sorry, that is nit-picking, but I'm being honest. Then there is the fact that the character development seemed false and unrealistic. The two go out on one date and fall in love. Finally, the story went even more unrealistic when ...more
I enjoyed this story. Although the happy ending is predictable, that is what I am looking for during the Christmas season, there are many
interesting layers to the story and characters.

This is a great Christmas time story. The story is great and the characters are too. It's set in NYC and I want to go and "look up". You'll find out what I mean when you read the story.
I usually don't like this kind of book or this author. My mom told me I had to read it and I was pleasantly suprised. A nice holiday book, something to put you in the spirit.
Just right for someone who wants a combo of loneliness, melodrama, magic, predictability and a happy-happy ending in their Christmas stories.
A Christmas read that will leave you with the spirit of being among family members this time of year. A quick read for the busy holidays.
I picked this up to read over Christmas not sure if I'd like it or not, but I really enjoyed it. It was a fun Christmas read!
Charming little Christmas story. Family strife, loss and learning to love again. Merry Christmas!
I liked the family characters and relationships, but this story didn't hold together for me as well.
Loved this tear jerker. The two children were strong and wonderful they stole my heart.
A wonderful Christmas story. Loved it. Makes you want to go to New York and look up!
It didn't fill me with as much of the Christmas spirit as I would have liked. Look up and see the silver bells!
It is a feel good holiday story. A very quick read. Kind of predictable.
I loved this book. I think being that I miss my son it hit home for me.
This was a great December book-club read. A really great story for the season!
