There are some spoilers here.

I tried to love this book. I would have settled for even liking it.
For some reason, I could not enjoy it. I read it a number of years ago, I must have been in a totally different place.

Venus is a long haired black woman, as any black woman knows, that is a premium in the black community. She becomes extremely frustated with her life situation, which includes not having her boyfriend do what she wants her to.

We then follow a t More...

Which of us has not peeked at her reflection after a Hard Day’s Work at the salon and not felt Instantly Better somehow? But what happens when the only person who likes the New You is,
Well…
You?
On the surface, Venus Johnston has the life some of us would kill for. A petite knockout with a stunning body and a head full of hair that flows well past her shoulders, Venus has a good paying job in the field of her choice (advertising), a beautifully decorated home, and she’s en More...

I heard Hollywood was going to turn this book into a movie starring Halle Berry, so I had to check it out! I figured if they were soliciting an Academy Award/Oscar winning actress, then it had to be crème de la crème.....ummm not so much.

The story begins in the future [If you call the '90's future....but hey I didn't realize this book was THAT old] with Clint at the alter thinking about his "bride to be". [Almost like he needs the reassurance to continue standing there.]

Halle Berry read this book and loved it so much, she is turning it into a Hollywood film starring herself and Alicia Keys. Should be funny, dramatic, and all that jazz.

Trisha Thomas is a pretty good writer, she definitely gets your emotions wrapped up in the characters. I definitely am not too pleased with Kandi, she seems to have an ulterior motive and only interested in Clint's stats. Yet again I can't blame her, looking at her background it seems that her mother instilled these things in her since she didn't get to marry the man of her dreams. I also like the fact that Clint and Venus came to terms in the hand and realized they were both wrong and haven' More...

This was the first book I read by Trisha and I was very impressed and could not wait for book number two to come out. I lived the main character because she started to make herself happy by doing something that the person she was with would disagree. I learned to never pressure anyone to do anything they are not ready for and you should not rush someone b/c if they do respond to your request it will be to make you happy and they will despise you and you them. Be patient and your Mr. or Mrs. righ More...

I thought this book did a great job of touching on the issues women, especially women of color, have about their hair, their image , and moreover their identity. The main character Venus is very relatable and on a journey to self- discovery that many have went on or need to go on. I really enjoyed the twists and turns the plot took and that it didn't tie everything up in a neat little bow at the end. This book moves fast and can easily be absorbed in a weekend!

Sometimes I might arrive at a party a little late as in the case of reading this great book! NAPPILY Ever AFTER is much more than the run of the mill book about relationships -- it's about life and how hair and all those other neurosis' can curtail freedom. At least that's one of the major messages I got from reading this novel.

Couldn't put it down. My eyes hurt. Wanted to see what was next.

An interesting angle on contemporary urban middle-class black life, especially for single women caught between competing standards. I wish there hadn't been the gratuitous biphobia/homophobia thrown in in a couple of places, but it didn't poison the whole story, fortunately. Fluffy plot overall, but deeper ideas under the surface.

Loved this book. Venus was a successful black female that was smark, successful, and beautiful until she cut her hair then everything hits the fan! I was said to see her not end up with the bright young doctor that she thought she was going to marry. Can't wait to read the next book to see what happens.

It's a little slow, but the only reason I keep reading is to know what happens to Venus because she is the only one going through a major problem regarding her hair and how it affects her relationship with Clint. The other characters seem a little dull to me.

Struggled to get through this book. I expected hair to be more of an issue. Venus' hair was an issue occasionally throughout the book. The book was more about her relationships and career moves. I expected more and have read better.

I think it's important for women who are not of color to learn about how much thought and effort is put into certain hairstyles and appearances... how much of an impression styles can make on society...how women of color are perceived by their hair. White women (such as myself) often take this for granted.

I enjoyed this story of a woman who gives up her beauty regimen and her man in one fell swoop. A deft look at the investment of family and friends in women's appearances.
