As we adopt the core standards i want my kindergarten students to focus on more numbers that 0-30. This book does a phenomenal job in explaining how to represent 100 in different ways. What i liked the best about this book is that i can use unifix cubes to represent the ants, and allow my kinestethic learners to participate in the process of physically making 100. I can think of three or four different activities that we can do in small groups inspired by this book.

This is a good book to teach beginning division. The visuals, with the ants dividing into 2 lines of fifty, 4 lines of 25, 10 lines of 10... is a great idea. My four-year-old seemed to grasp the concept pretty well, which surprised me. We have recently found some little black ants sneaking into our home so my boys were hoping for more information about ants, maybe something factual, so we will look for such a book during our next library visit.

Great book to use when teaching multiplication & division facts to students.
The ants go in search of food then they split into groups of 2s, 4s, etc.
Math manipulatives really enhance the learning with this book.
Shows how one smart or not-so-smart ant takes the leadership role and devises a strategy for getting to the picnic faster by diving themselves into rows.
Science: great to use with a lesson on ants or insects.

Wonderful book for using student's "double" knowledge through division. Can be used for 2nd and possibly 3rd graders. Unifix cubes could be used for tactile manipulating and representation. Students can follow with manipulatives as the teacher reads the story. Then go backwards and double the cubes until they get to 100. Also, teeacher could have students do similar activity while using multiples of 3, 4, or 5.

This book overall was great. I was able to find ways that this book could be used in various subjects. For instance, I could use this book in science to teach students about insects. I could use this book in literacy to teach students about repetition and rhyming. In math, I can teach students how to divide and multipy. Also in math this book demonstrats several ways to make the number 100. I could have student practice different ways in making 100 as well as other numbers.

This is a fun tale that incorporates math without being too heavy-handed with formulas or too boring. The rhyming, lyrical narrative and the beautiful woodcut illustrations complement each other nicely and I love that children will learn a little about multiplication and division by listening to or reading this story.

Hungry ants scurry to quickly retrieve their precious food in time before other animals eat it first. They divide up first into 2 equal rows of 50, etc. This is a great book to use for a lesson on multiplication and can be used while students use counters or chips to formulate various equal arrangements of the given factor.

This book is a good beginning-of-year resource when reviewing place value concepts with students. It could be an integrated literacy center where students would read the books (as partners or alone, depending on level) and then practicing counting out 100. Students would be asked different ways to represent 100s (10 grids, cups, plastic bags). Further into the year, the book could also be used as a reference for creating arrays and different ways to divide 100.

This is a great tool for teaching multiplication, division, and grouping strategies! The ants march in 1 group of 100, 2 groups of 50, 4 groups of 25, etc. This book is useful and enjoyable for all elementary classrooms. Students will love modeling the ants' groups, and drawing new patterns.

This is a great math book to introduce a lesson about "Array". I would use this book to have discussion with students about what "Array" means and how we can make rows of 4 of 20, 5 of 25 and so on. It will help students to understand some of multiplication facts and division. I love this book.

This book has a lot of interesting elements; it can teach students to divide 100 into different way, used as a read aloud because it is short, integrate language arts and mathematics and has repetition of words. I like the ending because it also had an element of surprise, the ants were too late.

The ants try to make it to the picnic in time to get food. The littlest ant tries to help them get there as fast as possible. It comes up with several ways to make rows of 100 but does it get them there faster? This book has a bunch of possible lessons rolled into one.

Ants, ants, and more ants. How many ways can you divide them? This book is great for skip counting, teaching beginning division, and multiplcation. Also shows children how many ways they can make 100 with arrays. I would use this book for an arrays work station and to teach problem solving.

"100 Hungry Ants" is a fun rhythmic book. It is about a group of 100 ants marching to get food from a picnic. Along the way these ants sing a tune about numbers up to 100. I would use this book to teach students about the number 100 and what it is divisible by.

This book serves as a good resource for grouping. The book can also be used to introduce the concept of division to students. The book can also be used for lessons on rhyming. This book can also be good for teaching students about ants.

I don't really like books with ants for some reason, but I read this anyway. What a funny way to show the different ways you can make 100. And it rhymed! Neat! The illustrations weren't amazing but the looks on the ants faces was.

Great book to introduce math! It helps children count up to 100 and how to split up things in groups. Ants were great characters to use because most children have seen many ants and have either tried to squash them or count them one by one hoorah hoorah!

I would use this book when teaching multiplication and I would allow my students to use manipulatives as the one hundred ants try to organize themselves in groups as they hungrily head to a picnic.

This book was perfect for our Picnic day in our week of summer in second grade. It was fun to read, the kids loved it, and there were lots of educational spin-offs we could take from it.

1 line of 100, 2 lines of 50? How can we get to the picnic faster? That is the main question for the ants. It's a great book the shows the number 100 in different arrays. It teaches students about multiplication with arrays.

Eh.
One hundred ants are heading to a picnic. They keep changing (dividing) how they are assembled. It takes so long to keep dividing themselves, they missed the picnic.

This is a cute rhyming story about one hundred angry ants. It teaches children different ways to split up one hundred, such as two rows of fifty and ten lines of ten.

Useful book for teaching multiplication, division or showing students how to make an array. Unifix cubes or any type of counters will work; students can follow the story by using the manipulatives to make the rows of ants. It's also great for building number sense since they see all facts in 100.

This book was really helpful for my third graders. It was engaging and fun for them. It's a great read aloud that leads into math.

This book teaches about skip counting as well as the different ways to make 100. Good to use for beginning division as well.

This is a great book to introduce during math time. It would be a great opener for doubling, multiplication, and addition.

One ant suggests to others if they divide into rows they can reach the picnic food faster than the other animals, but, do they?

Cute rhyming book about ants marching towards a picnic. They divided and chanted to get to the picnic faster.

This is a really good math read aloud story. I think that you could find ways to invited students to participate.

Kind of cumbersome language, but the boys really liked it. Good for studying insects, ants, and math.
