Why are the best books the hardest to review? I'm not sure I can come up with enough superlatives for this one, the second book in Lisa Kleypas's magical Wallflowers series. I think she hit the ball out of the park with this humorous, emotional, romantic read!
I had my doubts coming into this, after reading Secrets of a Summer Night. In that book Marcus, Lord Westcliff (most eligible bachelor in England), was such an uptight, humorless stick-in-the-mud--how was I going to fall for More...

Wow! Another fun installment of The Wallflowers series.
I love the way Lisa Kleypas developes her characters. Subtly, without pages and pages of narrative descriptives. We learn about them by seeing them in action, or through the eyes of others.
It was such a joy to watch Marcus, Lord Westcliff, put aside the bitterness of his childhood, the will of his mother and the demands of his title and just allow himself to experience the emotions which, despite his best effort More...

4.5 stars
This was an excellent book – almost perfect except for an issue I had with the heroine at the beginning – and I raced through it. Lisa Kleypas’ historical romances are beautiful, witty, and full of flawed and interesting characters. She takes you into the 19th century and you really do feel as if you’ve experienced this very different world. It Happened One Autumn builds and builds and ends in a series of exciting scenes where you’re just waiting for Marcus to come and save More...

After reading Lisa Kleypas’ previous books Again The Magic and Secrets of a Summer Night, I just had to read the second book in the Wallflower series called “It Happened One Autumn” which stars Lillian Bowman and Marcus, Lord Westcliff! “It Happened One Autumn” is so full of drama, romance one awesome hero and heroine team that any romance fan will eat this book up!

Another 5 star story from Kleypas' Wallflower series!
The quintessential domineering, opinionated and infuriating alpha up against a woman who is the farthest thing from a shrinking violet! These two butt heads from the first book and continue on in book 2 but when they get together they just just melt off the pages. The romance makes your eyes all watery and you're sighing so, so slowly with a choked voice: Ohhhh myyyyy gawwwwwwd **sigh, sigh sigh** (!!)

This was a great second entry into the Wallflower series. I really enjoyed this story and I firmly believe that Lillian and Westcliff are soulmates. They are both strong, vital people who are not afraid to say what they think and do what they want to do. Westcliff is a very arrogant man and very opinionated. He came off as being a little bit snobby in some ways. Not in the sense that he was too good to associate with self-made men of working class origins. He was very forward-thinking in that m

I am glad to say that this book is another 5 stars from Kleypas' Wallflower series; and another book into my faves shelf.
I loved this book. It was amazing from the begining to the end. I must say that while in the first book I got infratuated with the story, in this one I did with the characters, Lillian and Marcus were perfect for each other. I really liked Lillian, I guess I must really like it when the woman is strong and doesn't back down because that was what I apreciated more f More...

I knew it, I knew it, I knew it. I knew this was going to be good. Great even; I loved it.
{slightly spoilery}
Lillian Bowman is yet again stuck at a month-long house party at Lord Westcliff’s Hampshire estate. The last one resulted in the marriage of fellow-wallflower, Annabelle Payton. Lillian’s attempts at helping Annabelle find a husband made her an enemy in Marcus, Lord Westcliff. This is fine, because she doesn’t much like him either (“the pompous ass”) even though More...

I LOVED THIS BOOK! Lord Westcliff is sooo yummy!
What a great read this was! Lillian is my favorite wallflower so far! I love her personality and her witty humor and sharp tongue. She doesn't beat around the bush and says it like it is. My kind of girl! I knew in the last book she would be paired with Lord Westcliff and I couldn't wait to see how that would unfold.
A couple of lines that I enjoyed were-

Well, that was intense...
Again: so romantic. Lisa Kleypas you melt my heart.
This book tells the story of the second wallflower scheduled to get a husband, Miss Lillian Bowman. She's filthy rich, very spirited, extremely sharp-tongued, and an American, an American husband-hunting in Victorian England, and her parents will have nothing else than an aristocrat for son-in-law - poor Lillian. Not really, for she manages to get the attention of the most eligible bachelor around More...

It's kind of obvious that Pride and Prejudice must have been a huge inspiration for this book. There's a feisty heroine with an embarrassingly pushy mother, a rich, prideful hero with an interfering titled female relative, a silly sister, a lothario looking to marry a woman with money, and it's all set in England in the 1800s! (Only Mr. Collins was notably absent.)
The difference, of course, is that Elizabeth Bennet, despite her inner rebel, never would have jumped into bed with Darcy More...

Book 2 in Lisa Kleypas's Wallflower Quartet - I would recommend reading them in order!
Lillian Bowman... *shakes her head*
Okay, so Lillian has this INCREDIBLE sense of smell... (Go with me here... strange as it may seem), so she goes to this perfume shop and has the perfume maker make a special blend... and he says that he's going to put something special in it that will help her get a husband, or something like that. So it's basically a love potion in perfume form.

The second Wallflower finds love. I enjoyed reading the story of Lillian and Westcliff. And even though the story only had one amazing surprise, it held my interest the whole way. I'm looking forward to the next in the series and wondering how Ms. Kleypas will redeem Lord St. Vincent.

This novel more than made good on the promise offered by the first book in the Wallflower series. Lillian and Marcus are delightfully flushed out characters, the interplay between them extremely well done. This book had everything I look for in romance - engaging, charming protagonists who are truly equals, a dash of humor, wonderful banter, well-developed supporting characters, and just enough heat to make the romantic scenes steamy without dragging on.

YAY! Second passionate book of the Wallflowers, oh how I adore thee~
It is now spunky Lillian Bowman's turn at a chance of happiness and marriage and who else to pair her up with than the stiff and opinionated Marcus Westcliffe!
Oh yes, there was much conflict and romance to be had! I liked how Marcus ravaged her with kisses behind the bush, the start of it all! It was truly adorable after all that agony between the two, when Lillian is depressed and gets drunk and We More...

OH....I love Marcus, Earl of Westcliff...he just KNOWS what he's supposed to do. And then came Lillian...an American Heiress...and one of the WALLFLOWERS...
She's a hellion...and he's intrigued, much against his better judgement.
Americans don't appreciate some of the *delicacies* that the English enjoy...this bit made me laugh so hard:
~!~!~!~
“Wh-what is that?” Lillian asked of no one in particular, unable to tear her gaze from the revolting sight. More...

This is my first read by Lisa Kleypas and I like her style of writing. Her prose is vivid, descriptive and engaging. And while I wouldn't put this particular book at the top of my best reads list, I liked her style well enough to read more of her books. Besides, she is a noted author with a great following.
What I liked most about this book was the secondary characters. In particular, I liked Daisy, the sister of the heroine, Lillian. Daisy is delightful; she is witty, mature and w More...

My understanding of the series is that the Wallflowers are made up of eligible bachelorettes who, for one reason or another, are difficult to marry off. Perhaps they are too opinionated, or are American, or are nouveau riche. This installment we meet up with Daisy and Lillian Bowman, American heiresses of the Bowman Soap fortune. Lillian, the elder of the two sisters, is being hoisted upon any eligible peer bachelor in England by her ambitious mother, in hopes of her family becoming “somethin

The second in the Wallflower Series, It Happened On Autumn, is the story of Lillian Bowman and Lord Marcus Westcliff.
We met both in Secrets of a Summer Night amidst Annabelle and Simon’s love story.
Lillian is American and less refined as the English nobility and Westcliff has been cruelly molded since birth to be a no nonsense Earl.
Westcliff finds pleasure where he can and Lillian’s adventurous nature intrigues him enough to loosen him up and let free the pass More...

The more you hate, the more you love.(Well, that absolutely didn't happen in my case, because I absolutely loved, loved, loved this book)
Lilian Bowman hates the the arrogant clod pole which is Marcus Marsden, or Lord Westcliff. We could also be assured that Westcliff feels the same way. So they definitely have a mutual understanding.
But mutual understanding is better than nothing right?

This is the second in the Wallflower quartet and in my opinion is much better than the first (Summer).
This is Lillian and Marcus's story. I was intriqued to see what their story would be like after meeting them in Secrets of a Summer Night. Let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed. Lillan is a real treat of a heroine. She swears, plays "baseball" with the boys, and has a temper on her. I loved it!
