"Christian Heroes: Then & Now have set a new standard of quality in Christian biography. These thrilling true adventures are the best-written biographies for ages 10 and up! Sustained by God's provision. George Muller's vision of caring for orphans grew to five large homes that ultimately over ten thousand children would call home (1805-1898).

I love this series – Christian Heroes Then and Now. I am amazed that some of these names I have never heard of but after reading the book I want to learn more about their life. However one should know that they are written for middle school reading level (maybe younger?) so very very quick short reads for the average adult. Once my kids get bigger I will be having them read these books. Definitely worth the read.

George Müller, originally from Prussia, is a man known all over the world for his groundbreaking care of orphans in England. In his lifetime, he cared for thousands of children and headed three different ministries. This incredible man banked everything he had on his belief in God's provision, and his life is a testimony of it. He trusted God for anything, big or small, and it was his faith that enabled him to accomplish such great things.

Incredible man. Average production.
This guy rescued thousands of orphans from 1800 England's brutal streets and poorhouses, and managed to feed, clothe and school them all without ever asking for money from anyone except God.
One day there was no food for breakfast, but he sat the children down at a neatly set table and thanked God for the food they were about to eat. There was a knock at the door brought trays full of freshly baked bread from a baker who just couldn't sleep; a second knock bro...more

This is a great book! Great book to read as a family......but also a great read for adults! This book challenged me in my prayer life....to want to pray boldly! I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!! Frankly speaking, I'm considering putting into the hands of any nonbeliever who is curious about being a Christ follower.......George Muller's story of conversion and living his life with reckless abandon to obey the call of Christ is inspiring....I have so much respect and admiration for this man!

I think this paragraph toward the end sums it up nicely:
" George Muller had truly learned the lesson of being a good steward of God's money. He went from being a boy who stole from his father and a young man who used whatever means he could to swindle money from his friends to a man God trusted with a fortune, a man who kept so little for himself that when he died, he had only one hundred sixty pounds in his estate, and most of that was the value of a few pieces of furniture."

This is a well-written biography for a family read-aloud. George Muller is a person about whom I have read previously, but the way the story is told here really brings his fascinating life alive. Part of the fascination comes from the facts of what he accomplished, but the story was told in a way that kept it from being dry and boring.

This was a family read-a-loud for homeschooling. This one was my favorite one of the YWAM books so far. This story tells about the life of George Mueller and his faith to care for thousands of orphans by prayer alone. The authors incorporate history, geography, and christianity through this inspirational true story.

This was part of our homeschool curriculum--a GREAT book to read outloud to your kids! (But be prepared, you'll be caught doing the "ugly cry" in the middle of several chapters!) My kids poke fun at me now for not being able to get through read-aloud time without crying. lol

This was probably our favorite book from last school year. Talk about a faith-building, faith-CHALLENGING read! This man trusted God for every last penny spent in saving and ministering to thousands of orphans. A great book to read with young children.

This was an inspiring biography. Very easy to read and inspiring for my faith. A great example of a person who found his place in the will of God. Someone who pleased God in everything he did... a true testimony of faith! Highly recommended :)

Phenomenal. Must-read. Our entire family enjoyed it. George Mueller's life of prayer, faith, and tireless service is convicting and inspiring. This book made us excited to see what happens when we pray and truly believe God will answer. LOVED this book!!!

This is the 2nd time I've read this book and I loved it again. What an amazing story of faith, God's goodness and the power of prayer. George Muller's faith makes my faith seem so small. I'm left challenged and encouraged.

It's funny how the books that may seem "boring" to some people have the biggest impacts on our lives.

I had an experience like that with this book. Everytime I read it my mind does back to winter afternoons curled up around my mama's rocking chair as she read to me and my siblings. George Muller was and still is one of our favorite biographies.

For me? This book is not just another dry boring biography. Maybe that is partly because my mum can make any book interesting, but I found this book to be...more

Part of our homeschool curriculum this year. Lead to so many wonderful discussions about helping those in need. Loved it.

This book was awesome, it really helped me to strive to live by faith more and to really believe God will do what he promised

George Muller's story is so completely inspiring. If you can get your hands on ANY book about him, Read It!

I'm giving this book 5 stars not for the writing style but for the inspiration provided in learning about George Muller. I knew that Muller helped orphans in Bristol, but I never knew that he prayed for their every need and never asked anyone except for God for anything. His life is an inspiring example of the power of prayer--Muller prayed and God provided the means to care for thousands of orphans.
Kiya
Really oversimplistic writing, but Muller's life story is so incredible that it's hard to mess up.

Just finished reading this book to the girls. We all LOVED it!! So challenging and inspiring!!!

George Mueller was such a selfless man! What an example of genuine compassion!
Alison
A remarkable example of living out daily faith with simplicity and utter dependence on God. My girls ages 7 and 8 thoroughly enjoyed this read-aloud together!
Kate
Awesome!!!!

Though written for a younger audience, I still found this story inspiring and a challenge to my own Christian life. The message that this man was a man of prayer, who relied fully on God's provision, was clear. By the end of the book, my children were able to predict how George Mueller responded in different circumstances - he prayed!
Susanne
I read this book aloud with my daughter for school. It was amazing the amount of faith George had in the Lord. He touched so many lives. This brought up many great discussions between my daughter and I on how we could improve on giving more of ourselves to help touch the lives of others.
Josette
I think this has been one of our family's favorite read alouds....because every time I came to the end of a chapter the children all begged "read more!" Written to be easily understood by 4th-8th graders, it appeals to a much wider range.

LOVE this book. It was a great read aloud for the family. It's condensed obviously, but I cried like a baby during the funeral. :)
