"Waarom iedereen politici haat". Deze titel staat boven de eerste paragraaf van het boekje "The Plan: Twelve months to renew Britain". Britten hebben geen vertrouwen meer in hun politici, ze geloven niet dat ze via verkiezingen het beleid kunnen veranderen en ze hebben gelijk. Dat is de stelling waarmee Douglas Carswell (Brits parlementslid voor de conservatieven) en Daniel Hannan (Europees parlementslid voor de Britse conservatieven) hun boekje beginnen. It's a very good plan, particularly with regard to altering the structure and role of government, reclaiming frittered sovereignty and devolving power. No doubt it goes over the heads of most of those involved in contemporary political debate. The news will instead continue to be filled with claims and counterclaims about inanities like pledges to abolish relative poverty and the moral virtue of tax increases which produce little extra revenue.

Shelves: politics
There are some interesting proposals in these pages and it is clear that a great deal of thought has been given to improving the state of the nation. As with all plans, however, there are flaws and it's clear that the devil would be in the details.
