I saw this book displayed in the library and thought to give the author a try. A considerably entertaining read for my last few days of pregnancy, but I think anything entertains me at this point. Barr's description of Cuba was decent but not vivid enough for me. I will probably try reading her other novels (e.g. "Baggage" and "Backpack"), however, since they have received good reviews.

This was a pretty good book. Not earth-shattering, but entertaining. It was the last of Emily Barrs books that I needed to read and now that I have I can say that my favorite is still the first one I read, "Backpack". All the other books lacked the ability to place you in the narrators shoes the way that "Backpack" did.
