The species called the Malaysian politician often gets in the news, but sometimes not for the right reasons. Malaysian Politicians Say the Darndest Things is a collection of over 100 quotes that span almost three decades. There are things that make you go hmmm, things that make you go gaga, and things that give you a refreshingly pithy introduction to several issues of the...more

Recommends it for: Those seeking a brief education of Malaysian politics but couldn't be bothered to read paragraphs
This is a recollection of the craziest quotes from Malaysian politicians. I had to constantly remind myself not to roll on the floor or otherwise they'll think I'm some kinda of sicko and call the cops. Seriously, this book is downright funny. Finished reading it on the same day it was bought (not that there's much reading going on, but, there you go). Recommended to those looking for a jolt of satire behind all the confusing, contradicting and nauseating politics of Malaysia. With an introducti...more

Let's be honest here, even those of us who don't pay much attention to politics have heard of certain things that spill out of the political arena and into the streets. Sometimes it's because a politician said something funny. But often, it's because someone who should have known better let their racist, sexist and generally rude side show, probably under the impression that they are being funny. Saya tak sangka ramai juga ahli politik kita ini pelucu sebenarnya. Astro patut wujudkan satu realiti TV ala-ala Maharaja Lawak, yang khas untuk ahli politik sahaja. Kah Kah Kah

" "Selangor's rapid development under Dr. Mahathir's leadership is because there is a favoured person from Selangor in Dr. Mahathir's life - his wife, Dr. Siti Hasmah... It looks like Selangor will prosper further under Pak Lah [future Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi] because his wife, Endon, is also from Selangor."

Malaysia is screwed. And I thought politicians from the U.S. said dumb things. compiled and published by awesome Malaysian director Amir Muhammad (director of several banned films) and given to me for free when I met him at PIFF 08, these quotes are mostly hilarious and some of them are even absurd. I can't believe it! These are real people in the malaysian government and saying real things in public forums. I can't wait for volume 2!

For such price (RM30.00), it's not exactly worth buying. Worth reading? Yes.

Saya tak sangka ahli politik Malaysia begitu 'lawak' sebegini. terutamanya tun M. Lawak Sami Vellu memang tak boleh lawan. haha

Please read Faizah Roslaini's review of this hilarious book. I totally agree with her.
