My 17-year old daughter
This was a pretty good teen romance. My daughter bought it at a book fair and read it before I did, so I wasn't sure about sexual content, language, violence, etc. However, when she offered it to me, I had to assume it wasn't TOO bad! My fears were completely unfounded; no "action" beyond some passionate kisses; no offensive language, and a minimum of violence, considering it IS a pirate adventure! Very "safe" as a recommendation for a budding romance reader; not of the same caliber as the "Twil...more
I picked up this book thinking it would be a historical pirate-themed romance, which it is… but for young adults. Despite this set back, it was a cute PG romance. The characters share a few kisses and that’s about it. The only mildly violent part of the book is when the hero is briefly flogged, but he seems to recover quickly after being rescued by the heroine. Since this is a young-adult romance, the heroine and hero are young (17 and 21 respectively). The first line of the story is really good...more

They need to move on from the recent death of Annalisa’s mother, and what better place to do it than the little known Caribbean island of Mourning, which King George has assigned governorship of to Annalisa’s father. But on the voyage over, their ship is set upon be pirates, and Annalisa is discovered in her hiding place in the hold. However, in exchange for letting Annalisa keep her necklace, a reminder of her...more

To Catch a Pirate by Jade Parker, is a sweet love story about pirates, love, and buried treasure. When her father's ship is attacked by pirates, a young 16 years old girl named Annalisa Townsend finds herself trapped between a wall and ruthless young pirate named James Sterling. Instead of taking her necklace, which is all that she has left of her recently dead mother, he steals her ring and a kiss that ends up deeply haunting both of them. The pirates leave with the treasure that puts her fathe...more
To my bemusement I often found myself forgetting that this book was a) aimed at young adults and b) about a seventeen year old girl. Its easy to forget such when the girl in question is the Captain of (what amounts to) a Pirate-Hunter's ship. I could almost believe that at each next kiss they would succumb to passion.
I was also a little bit taken aback at how fast Annalisa went from a pampered London debutante to this fearsome Lady-Captain hunting down pirates and ruling over a crew of men. Moti...more

Magical Love. Just those two words after I finish the book (To Catch A Pirate), magical love. What initially attracted me to this book was the simple and refined cover, and the synopsis. Like most girls, I am guilty of having a slight weakness for simple damsel in distress books with a historical background. I soon found out that Annalisa Townsend wasn't quite the damsel in distress I thought she might be.

This book is a quick read, In fact I think I've read it three times. It's not a wow book but for some reason it's plot has stayed with me since the first time i borrowed the book from my local library. It is most definately Young Adult and follows a main female protagonist. The story is sweet and not too hard to get into. Although it features pirates; pirates aren't the focus. The focus is the development of the relationship between the female protagonist and the pirate whom she caught on her sh...more

When 16 year old Annalisa Townsend's ship is captured by pirates in search for her fathers treasure, she is taken aback by the ever so handsome James Sterling. James, a pirate for Crimson Kelly, accepts to exchange a kiss for her mothers necklace. A year later, Annalisa is intent on finding James sterling and reclaiming her fathers treasure. Loved it. Such a cute, fun story. :) 4.5 stars
James Sterling sounded like such a handsome young pirate. <3 Even though I shuddered each time they mentioned his long hair. In my mind Anna made him cut it. Long hair is just so unfitting for a man... Unless your Mr. Malfoy of course. Then it just fits your character.
But anyway, I did enjoy his cheeky little comments. :) And the towards the end the were a couple of surprising twists that I did not see coming at all.

So, what did I think of this book? Well, the only reason I gave it 3 stars is because I'm a sucker for silly flighty romance novels. This was definitely a silly flighty romance novel. I appreciated that there was not too much info in it, however, the quality of writing was really sadly lacking. There were these cliched one liners at the end of each section/chapter. I found myself rolling my eyes often. There are so many other good quality writers around, that I just had a hard time stomaching th...more

I bought this book because a pirate story sounded good. The story sounded interesting and really good. So I looked very forward to reading it.
Sadly, it fell short of my expectations.
It’s been a while since I read, so I can’t be too detail as to why I didn’t like it too much. The plot wasn’t as interesting I thought it might be, nothing stood out too much, since I can’t remember much of happen in the book. If I remember right, the romance part wasn’t, I don’t know, believable, I suppose, and no...more

I knew that reading this book was a bad idea, but a friend have given it to me as a gift, having read it herself, and I knew that she would be expecting my opinions. I can't believe that this book is in any way popular. The author displays impatience with her plot and characters everywhere, dumping things into the story at breakneck speed. She skips over all chances of character development. The first chapter of the book shows the main character, Annalisa, as a proper and timid young woman. And...more
I needed something light and fluffy to read after my last book (Dorian Gray). I truly enjoyed this pirate/romance tale. Annalisa becomes a pirate hunter after her father is wrongfully accused of piracy when he and his daughter survive a pirate attack on their ship. Since the treasure was stolen and he survived the governor thinks he is in league with the pirates and is put in prison. Annalisa forges a letter giving her the authority to hunt the pirate who stole from her father and uses her dowry...more
"To Catch a Pirate" is not my cup of tea. The only reason I had finished this book is that I didn't want to put to waste the first few minutes I had spent immersed in the first few chapters. No matter how strongly I'd like to love this book, I just... can't. It's so full of horrible cliches that had me cringing at each word. Beautiful female lead, check. Two handsome men fighting for her precious heart, check. Good girl falling for the bad boy, check and the list could go on to the next decade....more
Annalisa Townsend has always been curious about how life at sea is, so she decides to go abroad with her father. After that, her father falls into trouble for being accused of piracy so its up to Annalisa to save him, and her journey begins with capturing the pirate that not only stole a kiss, but stole her heart.

So I struggled between giving this 2 and 3 stars. The writing was nothing phenomenal - the author wasn't really descriptive and used a lot of passive, dead phrases. The storyline was relatively predictable and cheesy and had me either rolling my eyes or laughing out loud at parts (not because it was supposed to be humorous). The reason I considered giving this book a 3 is because I really wanted to know how it ended so the story kept me intrigued just enough. I guess to an extent you can say I g...more

I read this book in two sittings - only because it was already midnight and hello, I needed some sleep - otherwise I would not have put it down! It was such a fun, light and enjoyable read. I can't resist pirates - can you?

To Catch a Pirate was a lively, sea-faring tale of roguish pirates and determined young maidens. It wasn’t especially deep or long, but rather a short novel that anyone who likes danger, adventure, and thrilling, out-of-the-ordinary romances will enjoy.

After I read this book....believe it or not....but I slept with it under my pillow. Annalisa and James are so perfect for each other that "perfect" can't even come close to what they are to each other. They're soul mates....although that's such a cliche. For me this went a little like Pirates of the Caribbean and James was a lot like Jack Sparrow and Annalisa was a lot like Isabelle Swan or Elizabeth or is it Lizzy?....Besides that....it was such a wonderful read. “He wouldn’t charm her. She’d almost forgot what his kiss tasted like., felt like. She only remembered it when she drifted into dreams. Then it became so vivid, so real. To her mortification, she always felt a little thrill. Her life had been filled with gentlemen of the finest quality. James Sterling was like none of them, he was unpolished. A diamond in the rough. A scoundrel. A pirate.”
