This is the first book I go to when trying to identify a new moth. The photographs are taken in natural poses rather than pinned specimens and so correspond much more closely to the moth in your pot (or on the wall or whatever).

The only quibble I would have is that scale is sometimes hard to judge because of this. Just because one moth looks larger than the one next to it on the page is no guarantee that this is the case. The photos are not all to the same scale and it would have been good if t

I would have given this 5 stars as it is a truly great identification guide, which I've found more useful than illustrated guides. It also gives equal status to the identification of moths - other guides seem to focus on the arguably more glamorous butterflies. The one shortcoming is on the caterpillar identification section that could do with including the food plants that you're likely to encounter them - a minor quibble as it does list them on the moth/butterfly identification pages and again ...more
