I have to admit that we own four of Mark's books and they're treasured for both the story and Karen's whimsical and sweet illustrations. This story starts on Thanksgiving night when an unexpected snowstorm hits the neighborhood. The magical prose coupled with gorgeous illustrations takes us through a story about a boy and a message from Sir Moon:

I may have never heard of Bob before, but I am now glad that I have met him.
A Snowman Named Just Bob was first released in 1999 and released in 2008 in a special 10 year anniversary edition. I opened the pages expecting a snowman story, yet found a touching story about friendship and love. It is good to be reminded once in a while that friendship is a simple thing - humans just tend to complicate it.

Bob, the snowman, comes to life one snowy Thanksgiving day.
I think the illustrations and font are whimsical and cute but the written text is entirely too long, the message of friendship, magic, believing, and love is lost in the daunting amount of text in the verses. I also wonder if the audience is for adults or older children, the language is pretty but not necessarily child-friendly.

A great winter/snowman book to read to young children. The warm, rhyming text leads to a great moral of how good friends will always be near even though they may not be right there. Wonderful pictures bring the story to life. The descriptive text in this book allows for young children to visualize and predict what is happening during the story.
Couldn't resist the illustrations in this heartwarming tale.

Recommends it for:
parents reading with their children
Though not exclusively about Christmas, this is a great book to read during the season. It espouses hope and joy and a sense of gratefulness for what you have. The rhyming narrative and festive illustrations are perfect to read aloud to children during the holiday season.
