Awesome book!!! Very concise and loaded with practical hints/tips. The author doesn't waste time rambling about his biography (but when he does, it's still informative). He doesn't try to sell/endorse brushes, paints and any other art supplies. He doesn't try to promote his own paintings by filling in pages with his work that has nothing to do with the text (an awful number of authors do it). He provides a lot of illustrations to explain his techniques etc. just the type of books I like. Well, ...more

The most concise book I have used to date on the art of picture making. Specifically in the relations ship of color and value. More than half the book is spent on developing painting skills monochromatically. Followed by descriptions and exercises to develop your eye on see not just color but color as value.
