This book, first published in 1984, was a sort of sequel to Dr. Paul Brand and Philip Yancey's book "Fearfully & Wonderfully Made," but I'm reading them in reverse order.
Dr. Brand devoted almost all of his long medical career to treating lepers, first at a mission hospital in India, and later in Louisiana. Although it is co-written, "In His Image" is written in the first-person, from Dr. Brand's perspective.
If you read this book, you might find yourself in awe of your own body. You might fin...more

The insights this book offers on the nature and FUNCTION of pain are worth their weight in gold. An absolutely incredible read.

Paul Brand's descriptions of the human body and how it functions - skin, blood, breath, etc. are amazing. His work in India with patients with leprosy gives the book and added depth of feeling and compassion. I got a lot out of this book, as I did the first one, "Fearfully and Wonderfully Made".

30 years after publication, and it's still relevant and thought-provoking. I am grateful for the sense of awe and wonder that Brand and Yancey inspire. This is accessible to lay readers, and it is worthwhile.

This book will make you much more confident in your belief in a Creator. It will give you amazing real-life facts that back up the Biblical ones. I can share with others fervently that there is design here and the design cannot be argued. If you think it can be, read this book.

There is some wonderful analogies shared in this book, likening the human body to the body of Christ (the church). Good stuff, but I must say, his going on about blood was a bit much for me, just because I a bit screamish and yeah....

My second favorite Paul Brand book. A few of the same images are used in The Gift of Pain. The theological insights from our bodies and being the body of Christ are the deepest of what I've read by him so far.

In this book a medical doctor and a writer collaborate to look closely at the human body, celebrating it as a great creation that reflects the wisdom of its Creator.

Listened to a passage from this book today and found it to be very moving and insightful. I'm looking forward to digging into this one deeper.

This book coupled with "Fearfully and wonderfully made" are the two BEST books I believe I have ever read. Totally recommend to everyone.

This is a fabulous follow-up to Fearfully and Wonderfully Made, dealing with the church. Read it.

“God reproduces and lives out His image in millions of ordinary people like us. It is a supreme mystery. We are called to bear that image as a Body because any one of us taken individually would present an incomplete image, one partly false and always distorted, like a single glass chip hacked from a mirror. But collectively, in all our diversity, we can come together as a community of believers to restore the image of God in the world.
