Laced was another great read in Clark's Regan Reilly series. After the events in Hitched, Regan and Jack wanted a quiet honeymoon. Naturally things do not go as planned. I really love how Clark keeps her two main characters interesting while at the same time introducing quirky secondary characters for each book in the series. Laced has one couple bad on their luck thanks to a lie, a superstitious hotel employee/painter, a thieving couple out for themselves, and several other colorful characters....more
Private investigator Regan Reilly and her new husband Jack, head of the NYPD Major Case Squad are off to Ireland. But their first night at romantic Hennessy Castle is interrupted by a fire alarm that distracts hotel employees from the theft of a valuable antique lace tablecloth out of the castle's memorabilia room. A taunting note is left for Jack by the culprits...a notorious pair of jewel thieves whom he has been pursuing for over a year. Disguised as an elderly couple, they had checked out in...more
A potboiler, read in the pursuit of understanding what sort of thing my dear mother-in-law enjoys. This is somewhat better than the some of the others. The characters are a bit more interesting and there is some humour. I did get a bit confused because there were two separate sets of man-and-wife crooks, plus the sleuths were also a married couple, and at least one set of crooks used aliases as well. The Irish setting was diverting. I’d put this in the Not Entirely A Waste Of Time category. If I...more
Typical Carol Higgins Clark. Highly entertaining, three stories woven into one. Jack and Regan Reilly are on their honeymoon, but of course, the NYPD detective and the private investigator, can't even do that quietly. The hotel at which they are staying is famous for a bit of lace woven by May Reilly (no relation) who is also rumored to haunt the hotel. The lace is stolen as a deliberate taunt to Jack but they are soon on the case. There is the side note of a couple who is trying to make big buc...more
This was the first book I ever read by Carol Higgins Clark. I haven't read one by her mother either. But I liked it. It was a quick, light, easy read.
My only complaint was that if Reilly is supposed to be the main character....well....she seemed more like a background character. We would check in on her and her new husband every now and then, but even then Clark hardly gave Reilly any speaking parts. So if you like novels where you are a transporting fly on the wall, this is it! I got to know t...more

I'm doing this as an audio book. So far, sooo boring. Hope it picks up soon.
Jan. 28th - so it didn't get any better. If I was "traditional reading" this one, I'd stop half way through the book. My first true love for reading came with Nancy Drew books when I was a teenager, so I'm still always in love with a good mystery book. Of course not as elementary as ND which unfortunately Laced defintely was. The plot was okay, interesting enough, but the dialogue was too stiff and unimaginative. Did sh...more

I told my ESL friend who suggested I would like this book that it was "OK." Which was a lie, because it totally sucked and I couldn't even get through the first chapter it was so bad. Don't tell my friend though; I don't want to hurt his feelings. But seriously, it was like something I might read in the third grade. Especially because it was in like 13 point font. Also, am I the only one who thought it was weird that these people on their honeymoon don't have sex? I just thought that was weird.
I have always been a fan of Mary Higgins Clark, her books always were suspenseful-although truth be told, at the end, the villian is always predictable. Although Carol'books are generally less exciting than her mother's, I found this book especially slow moving and boring. Her mother's are hard for me to put down-this one was hard to pick up!I would read her other books, as most of them weren't that bad.
Regan Reilly is a tough woman with a soft side. These books are missing that damsel in distress-ness of so many books with women as the central characters. Reilly is a competent professional with a successful personal life (Gasp! I know!)
These are not books that will make any English Lit. syllabi, but they will grab you, take you on a quick adventure and return you in time for dinner!

Detective Regan Reilly and policeman Jack Reilly are finally married and honeymooning in Ireland, where they encounter two jewel thieves with a grudge against Jack, and a couple who are involved in an art scam. Clark, as usual, follows the different threads separately until they tie together neatly. Her writing style is, as usual, no more than workmanlike.
Carol Higgins Clark can definitely give her mother Mary a run for her money in the writing department. This is the first Regan Reilly Mystery I've read and I definitely want more.
Regan and Jack Reilly are on their honeymoon in Ireland. What could happen on their honeymoon? Just about everything it turns out. Jane and John Doe are out to ruin it and get a piece of Irish lace history along the way.

I loved some of the characters in this lighthearted whodunit which takes place in Ireland. A honeymoon is turned into work to find the culprits who stole the old lace artwork piece at the castle/hotel they are staying at. Not so much a ghost story as we are lead to believe in the bookcover, though.
An easy read, funny in places, and good characters.

I can just barely stand the perkiness involved with this series. However, the mystery was amusing and had some interesting components. And now that Regan and Jack Reilly have been married off, there are even more options for their future (and I'm not talking about a second honeymoon to Ireland).
I purchased this as an audiobook and listened to it in the car. The characters were intriguing as was the setting. The story felt rushed as did the ending. It was much to quickly wrapped up for my tastes. I enjoyed the story but it seemed to lack something for me. Oh well. You win some; you lose some.
loved it!!! this book takes place in ireland with reagan and her husband are on their anniversary. (the reagan reilly books go along with her life of solving mysteries) both her and her hubby want to look up their ancestors and get to know their about their family history. they stay in a beautifully described castle. a theft takes place of a jewel that is old and worth lots. so while the reilly's (both jack and reagon had the same last name before and after marriage)are looking up family, they h...more
I like Carol Higgins Clark's style a lot. She writes mysteries (well....except you always know exactly who the villain is. Just all the characters don't.) like her mother, but she is much more quirky and fun. Cartoonish characters. If you just allow yourself to accept the comedy and the exaggerated quirks, you'll like it. If you expect anything serious, then you'll hate everything she writes.
