The over-arching whine here seems to be that the main character is short; almost 5'4", or 162cm. So yes, he is short, but the way he describes it, he uses words like midget, etc and is always bemoaning his lack of stature or his small overall mass.
If you don't know me well, let me tell you why this really bothered me. I am 5'3". I've been the short guy since 7th grade. But did I whine about it? No. I DID something. Starting in highschool I worked out and by the time I ended college, I was benchp...more

This is my day for reviewing Lawrence Sanders I guess, although I'm not sure why since I have a novel of my own to complete. I just have reviews on the brain, I suppose. In the "Commandment" series, Mr. Sanders seems to have liked finding amateur sleuths in unlikely places who become the lead in a murder investigation. Less of a police procedural I guess. Its an intriguing read although it seems a distant possibility that the two completely different murders Joshua was handling were interlinked and just he got the chance to look into both the matters. But the authhor has a good control on the plot and never does it languish to handle both the investigations together before going on describing one for too long so as to have other one gone out of mind by then. The small romantic aspect of Joshua with girl in his building is also nicely written.
As with ANY book by Lawrence Sanders, this is an excellent story written in Sanders' usual tongue-in-cheek style. Real-life, believable characters with his usual selection of whimsical names and humourous dialogue, this book is a quick and very entertaining read with at least two absorbing plots that keeps the reader reluctant to stop as you want to see what happens next. It also benefits from a minimum of profanity which some authors apparently feel is necessary to make their plots believeable....more
