Saking hebatnya dia sebagai motivator nam...more

At the end of the Great Depression, Dale Carnegie wrote one of the benchmark self-help books of American literary history. He encapsulated the formula to “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” in the midst of a market downturn, to put it mildly. His title, How to Win Friends and Influence People, was probably used to win and influence book sales rather than cleverly and accurately describe the content of his book. Simply, it is a misnomer. With chapters on considerate social intercourse ...more

When discussing a problem with my husband he said, "If you're just venting, that's fine. However, if you are looking for me to give you a solution I have this book you could read that would help." I sarcastically replied, "What is it? "How to Win Friends and Influence People?". He said, "Yes!". So... later in the week I grabbed the book and started reading it. It's going slowly, but so far a very good book. It's going to be the kind of book that needs to...more

The writer did not get it wrong when he chose the title 'How to...', an amazing timeless book you can read to help you in your everyday life.
No matter what your profession is, you will find that the principles described by the author apply to any situation you find yourself in.
I read this book a long time ago and I still remember the satisfaction I experienced on each page I was devouring: easy-to-read, with very realistic examples and full of simple techniques, this book should be made m...more

Three things about this book surprised me and I liked it a lot more than I thought I would.

One - it seemed pretty much timeless. Not much anachronism here, because language still serves the same purposes as ever, and people still want basically the same things they've always wanted. I liked the examples taken from Abe Lincoln, etc.

Two - the techniques described in the book aren't duplicitous. We all try to do what the title says, just like everyone else, whether we're admitting it ...more

The title of this book is no misnomer. Dale Carnegie does exactly what he claims - he tells you how to make friends and keep them.

Whether you need advice or just something interesting to read, this book is an excellent choice. Who knows, you might end up wiser for having read it.

Carnegie is an excellent story-teller, and he uses clear, real-life examples to demonstrate his methods. In hindsight, his methods are what we would call 'common-sense,' but the truth is, it requires real effort to d...more

This book is a guide to life. I think several people should be required to read this book at least once. Teachers, emotional teenagers, employers, employees, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, friends, neighbors, politicians etc...

I truly found this book oddly entertaining. Although it is a self-improvement type book, I couldn't put it down. Through the examples of many famous and successful people throughout history, this book teaches us how to work with others and be nice. I sincerely ...more

In high school feeling like a nerdy sophomore, I discovered this book on our bookshelf at home and thought it would hold the key to great recognition and popularity for myself, all my troubles would be answered. I immediately grabbed it and began reading. I was surprised in that it held no secret to great popularity at all, however I did find in it, one of the most enlightening, amazing books I had ever read, and still feel that way to this day. It changed my focus, it changed my heart, it ch...more

Written back in 1936, Dale Carnegie's "How to Win Friends & Influence People" is one of the timeless gems about working with other people.

This book is a must read for anyone who is interested in achieving success in any area that involves other people.

Do you want to have more friends?
Do you want to have the ability to influence others?

"Why 5 stars?" you might ask. Knowing that I basically loathe self-help books. Considering that the book reads like someone summarizing really touching stories his cousins or acquaintances forwarded in an e-mail ("This really happened!! Forward to 10 people or you´ll burn in Hell 4ever. Thanx!").
Well, you always get kudos for being the one to launch a genre. And while the writing may not be, the advice is pretty damn timeless. People do like to talk about themselves. Appea...more

With such insights as (I'm paraphrasing)"people like to talk about their interests" and "people don't like being told that they're wrong", it's hardly groundbreaking. But hey, if you're looking to, it really does show how to.

My favorite chapter, (again I'm paraphrasing) is the "great idea boss" approach, to suggesting an idea of yours that someone else just had. I can't do it without laughing though.

Quality stuff overall, if obvious sometimes. I shoul...more

What an excellent book! The principles are very applicable to any job situation, or really any interaction with humans. If I had to say a negative I would definitely say it is dated, and many of the examples he gives to illustrate his points are historically based (many during the Lincoln days). He frequently cites military leaders and presidents. This did get a little monotonous by the end. I definitely think anyone could benefit from the advice in this book. It will be a book you will wan...more

At first I shied away from this classic book because the title makes it sound like you are getting a course in manipulation. which I am against. But after reading the book I am discovering that it is not about that AT ALL. Rather, it condones learning and applying empathy and sincere concern for others. Hmmm. Such good traits for everyone to work on. Thus, I recommend this book everyone. Plus, if I ever have to run a group on social skills I will be using this book.

Bonus: It's easy ...more

I have read this book cover to cover 3 times. The first time my dad paid me $20.00 and all I wanted to do was finish it as fast as I could. However, the 2nd and 3rd time I read it, I attacked it at a complete different approach. I wanted to actually learn and change and better myself cause of it. It is an excellent read and should be read slowly. Dale tells many great stories. I learned a lot of traits and characteristics from this book that has helped me along in life. This book covers the basic human relation principles through real personal stories. This book and especially the Dale Carnegie 12-week training course I took impacted my life in a positive and life-changing way because it increased my self-awareness to improve all of my human relationships, whether they are professional or personal, and to become a better person. I'm still working on these principles and I'm striving to make them over time like second nature. A book to read and re-read everyone ...more

My father-in-law swore by this book and asked everyone in the family to read it. So I decided to take on the challenge. I found it to be very interesting, and did learn a lot—especially professionally. It taught me how to encourage my clients to let me design their projects more the way I thought it should be done and not the way they had thought it out in their minds. That has always been a challenge when working with clients. It also taught me how to work more professionally with my bosses a...more

Great book. Don't actually know how many times I've read it... Four or five, I think. But this time around it occurred to me that this book is really easy to read because it clearly states one major point in each chapter, and then the rest of the text are personal or historical examples that demonstrate the point. This makes it easy to understand each point clearly, but also helps you to apply it as well. Especially enjoyed the sections on conflict resolution and will be applying at work...

I'm re-reading this book and am again amazed at its timelessness. I know it's a silly title...and it reminds me of a cartoon in a book we had when we were kids with a grim reaper (or was it a skeleton?) reading this book...funny...anyway...

If more people in the world would read an apply these simple principles, the world would be a much different place.

If you haven't read it, I urge you to do so. It will change your relationships with family, friends, and strangers.

[A proper review of this book is coming soon]

Dale Carnegie wrote this book back in the 1930s...

It is more relevant today than ever before.

It's all about how you interact with people. This is a skill and one few of us take time to learn about. Yet it is the most important thing you can ever know.

Although the book's title sounds cynical it is actually sarcastic and the true spirit of the book is all about appreciating those around you.

A must read!
