This book started out so-so for me, with a few exceptions (the sweet heat between Dave and Sophia). There was lots of angst and worry over who/why somebody tried to kill Troubleshooter and former Angency Operative Jim Nash, and why the other Troubleshooters were now being targeted. Was it somebody from the Agency from where Nash used to work in black-ops "deleting" people? Why was Dave being targeted too? Could it be someone from Dave's past, and totally unrelated to Nash? I debated for quite a while about what to say regarding why I didn't like this book. And I pretty much came to the conclusion that it really didn't matter what I said. As I've seen elsewhere on the 'net when it comes to "discussions" about this book, anyone who dares to not like it is most often accused of being narrow-minded and throwing a temper tantrum because the pairings didn't end up the way the reader wanted them too. Wow, where to begin?!! This was a hot, intense and thrilling addition to the series. Dark of Night is easily one of my favorites in the series, right along with Over the Edge and Gone Too Far.
I intentionally did not read any of the spoilers prior to reading this book (which was extremely difficult to do!), so I had no idea who the main characters were going to end up with. Fantastic! First book, in I don't know how long, that I stayed up ALL night to finish it. Got to bed about 4am.
The last couple of SB's books have been a little flat for me. Too much detail I guess when I am just looking for meat in my stories. However, THIS book completely restores my faith in this author. Game on! This is the book I wished "Into the Fire" had been. There were some spots of ITF that were brilliant, but it was very inconsistent. Dark of Night, on the other hand, is spectacular. I'm not going to write too much here, because almost anything I write would be a spoiler at this point. But, I will say that I had guessed about Decker, and I was so glad I was right. As always, Brockmann delivers fast-paced action and riveting suspense. As always, her wit is sharp and there are some laugh-out-loud moments. (Maybe he was saying I love zoos. And as always, Brockmann is carrying around a massive club carved with "Jules is gay" and missing no opportunity to pound us over the head with it. I get it, Brockmann-- you're enlightened, you're progressive, you vote Democrat. Can we let it go now?

This was only okay for me. I mean, it's Suzanne Brockmann so it's better than your average romance, but there was something missing. I think as Brockmann has gotten more and more suspense oriented, her focus on one strong intense romance has lessened. I like it when she has the one strong, strong romance. This just felt like it was lacking the love part of the book because it was spread through three couples.

Hands down, this is the best book in the series.
So many things are done well. Just to begin with, the action does not let up. Just when you think you can breathe, there's a knife fight or a hotel blows up or someone gets shot. (There are a lot of other surprises, too.) Poor Dave Malkoff in particular really gets put through the ringer in this book. Plus, this is a novel with only the established characters, and it resolves a lot of loose ends, which is always satisfying.

Suzanne Brockmann is very much an auto read for me. I especially love her SEAL 16 series and Sam and Alyssa rank as one of my three favorite romance novel couples of all time.
But since the introduction of Decker, Tess, Sophia etc. all in Flashpoint, I haven't had the connection with this second group that I had with the SEAL 16 group (Tom, Kelly, Jules, Stan, Teri, Nils, Max, Gina, Kenny etc.). I actually think Flashpoint was my least favorite of all the books.

Rarely do you have the treat of a series that just gets better and better. Each book I read eclipses the last! I loved everything about this book - and Decker! Oh, so much repressed sexual energy. Great closure on so many levels. Fantastic action packed read.

When I found this book I was really excited because I had recently read the story of Deckers partner Nash in Flashpoint. So it fit right in that I should be able to read this one so soon after and find out what happened to Decker and Nash as well.

This was not my favorite of the series story wise, I felt it was a little weak and at times I found myself saying I wish it went a different way. Nash and Decker are amazing and I love both characters. I was anticipating an amazing story for both of them, but actually my excitement went from blazing to a extinguished flame.

Okay, Suzanne Brockmann shocked me just as much as she apparently shocked the Troubleshooters. Decker and Tracy?? I would never have guessed! I really thought he would've ended up with Dr. Jo, but I'm so glad he didn't. Tracy is the perfect foil for Decker's stoicism.

When I first read a Troubleshooters novel, I wasn't all that impressed. It was good, but I didn't think I'd stay interested in the series. Boy, was I wrong. Each one is better than the last. Another whirlwind effort from Brockmann, who to my mind made her comeback in 2007's Christmas All Through the Night. It doesn't hurt that Dark of Night leans heavily on some of her series' favorite sons: Sam Starrett gets a lot of cameo play here, and Jimmy Nash smokes up the screen a good bit, despite having his story "finished" way back in FlashPoint.
