For someone (like me) trying to tell what the "misc hot peppers" at the supermarket are, this book is probably not quite the right fit. If, however, you are seriously trying to grow peppers, this could be quite helpful.

This is one of my favorite reference books, it has pictures and text that attempts to show every species and cultivor of pepper so you can identify them. It also takes a stab at hot hot they are.
